Energy and resources.

Turn that computer off at night! All of them!

Thank you! Seeing it from that perspective makes more sense. I keep getting told how leaving my computer on uses neglible amounts of power, yet it's obvious that if we are ALL leaving them on, those little negligibles add up!!!

I have a sleep mode onmy computer which uses half the power.....turning my computer off is not an option since my phone service is through the internet

I was told once that you should unplug your toaster and toaster ovens when not in use as well since they do not have an on/off switch the electric is always running through them and adding toy our bill

it is actually astounding. a long long time ago, i also recommended blackle...but it is not for everyone...it does save a lot of energy though over the longhaul...

see www.blackle.com

it's google, but black. saves "white pixel energy" bigsmile

when you leave work for the day, when you go to sleep at night...
log off and shut down people!!

reduces attacks on your machine too!

And...? How is this good for me? I have no problem with my energy running all day and all night long.

We need different price levels for energy, but not dictated by the government, instead, totally controlled by a free market.

Any amount of energy can be perfectly distributed if the price is right, and there is always enough of it.

it saves you money. it is good for your environment.
it reduces pollution. it prolongs the life of your computer.

so, wtf drinker why not?! bigsmile

The money it saves is insignificant to my budget.

It doesn't better the environment proportionally to a level of discomfort it will cause me, personally.

Same argument for pollution.

It doesn't prolong the life of my computer. Actually, it shortens it.

Why do it then?

Women around the globe can greatly reduce thier carbon foot print by fore going batteries in thier vibrators and just let me do them with good old muscle power....

Hey, I am just doing what I can for the greater good of future generations....you are welcome.

I don't want to put any more people out of work due to my consumption reduction. People who work for the electrical companies and those connected with the production of electricity (railroad companies that deliver coal, the miners, ect). Those who manufacture, sell, and repair computers. Not to forget the truckers who deliver the computers. The people involved in the petrolium industry that fuel the trucks that deliver the computers. The list can go on.

I was thinking hard, and I have found a good answer.

Going green gets you laid with dumb chicks! It makes them "feel good".
Getting laid with dumb chicks, however, lands you in a divorce court.
Unless, you're unemployed dude on welfare, then you're judgment-proof!

There is nothing wrong with being respectful to our environment and conserving energy. I am sure there are some Americans that are too spoiled to be considerate but that doesn't make them right.

Sounds good to me.bigsmile

I've starting unplugging more things like my cell charger too.
I didn't realize that it was still using electric by being just plugged in.

A friend of mine learned something about not unplugging those items the hard way. They lost their kitchen to a fire caused by that.

thats..umm not entirely true.. Ask any techie will tell you that turning on/off your pc frequently actually puts a lot of strain on it.
you increase the hard drive/cd rom or RAM failure by tenfold , depending on how frequently you turn it on/off.

I'd suggest to put the pc to hibernation.

it is good for your environment.

perhaps...good for the environment for not burning a lot of coal in the electro power plants...but the question is why are we using a 19th century technology to get power again?

it saves you money.

It does, mathematically speaking...the question is will you feel the extra 3 dollars a month as something on an individual basis.

If you run a company with 1,000 PCs left on overnight, you can save about $28,000 a year

28,000 / 1000 = 28 dollar a year *(per PC), 28/12 = $2.3333 dollars a month. if you got one PC..so if you got more, then you know what to do . I would have to say the damn things are quite energy savers..for 2.3 dollars a month.

Excellent, Atlantis75. I can only agree that we have no business to tell business owners what to do to save or make money. They own business precisely because they know better what to do with their capital, versus those that do not.

well look...which one is better? Extra 3 bucks a month or 300,000 people out of jobs?

People choose the 300,000 people laid off instead.

Looking at the total number of posts by some here... it would be interesting to calculate their computer carbon footprints, electricity wasted, and the money that could have been saved by posting less (and being more considerate for the enviroment). Fortunately we're not all graduates of the Al Gore college of Hypocrisy.
