The OP cited a book, so if you do not agree get the book follow up its sources and deal with that.

It is clear, given the history of the book over time these are the words of man not of God.

That's your opinion, not fact. But the other side would be difficult to prove, in an absolute form.

Oh!!!!!! I didn't know that. I didn't see an author, nor "source:x" or whatever. Thanks. Who's the author? I doubt there is 1 book on the "Origin of the Bible". ;)

@Thomas J.I Packer is a hard core Christian. He's got some great writings but some are a little extreme. :/

Smile, thanks!! I'll buy it when I get some free time to read. :)

The Israelites couldn't read or write.laugh laugh laugh

Utterly absurd.

This Inbredsoul has no facts, all his opinion.

How does he explain how Israel became the superpower of their time and why all the nations greatly feared them for their military might. Many of you wine and cry about how Israel wiped their neighbors out. tears

Hardly the feat of a backwards people!

Just wondering! are we saying one book is wrong because another book says it is? Isn't that similar to identifing the age of something by the dirt around it, and identifying the age of the dirt by the item beside it?

The Holy Bible teaches you to know Jesus through words, scriptures and stories.

Some take the bible
For what it's worth
When it says that the meek
Shall inherit the Earth
Well, I heard that some sheik
Has bought New Jersey last week
'N you suckers ain't gettin' nothin'

Is Hare Rama really wrong
If you wander around
With a napkin on
With a bell on a stick
An' your hair is all gone...
(The geek shall inherit nothin')

You say yer life's a bum deal
'N yer up against the wall...
Well, people, you ain't even got no
Deal at all
'Cause what they do
In Washington
They just takes care
of NUMBER ONE
An' NUMBER ONE ain't YOU
You ain't even NUMBER TWO

Those Jesus Freaks
Well, they're friendly but
The they believe
Has got their minds all shut
An' they don't even care
When the church takes a cut
Ain't it bleak when you got so much nothin'
(So whaddya do)
Eat that pork
Eat that ham
Laugh till ya choke
On Billy Graham
Moses, Aaron 'n Abraham...
They're all a waste of time
'N it's yer ass that's on the line
(IT'S YER ASS THAT'S ON THE LINE)

Do what you wanna
Do what you will
Just don't mess up
Your neighbor's thrill
'N when you pay the bill
Kindly leave a little tip
And help the next poor sucker
On his one way trip. . .
SOME TAKE THE BIBLE. . .
(Aw gimme a half a dozen for the hotel room!)

Currently reading Jesus Interrupted by Bart Ehrman.
Discusses contradictions in the New Testament, who actually wrote the books of the NT.
I have listened to his interviews on NPR. He is an interesting author.
I also picked up his other book God's Problem, about human suffering.

He is a professor at the University Of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

The Bible is the Word of God as given through the Holy Spirit to the writers.

The Old Testament as we have it today was organized and compiled by Ezra the Priest after the Babylonian Captivity when the Jews returned to Jerusalem to rebuild their Temple.

Moses was given the Law on Mt. Sinai by God Himself.

What we have as our New Testament wasn't really compiled into its present form until the 3rd or 4th centuries, A. D.

The Apostle Paul wrote a good portion of the New Testament in the form of letters to various churches and individuals. These were passed around from church to church to be read. Much of our foundational Truths come from Paul's writings as directed by Jesus.

That's about it in a nutshell.

actually the bible is the work of a king that used the bible to enforce his laws. a lot easier to enforce laws when you put the fear of "god" behind them

Bingo.

God has been used to fuel false hope and has been used to force loyalty. God has been used to start wars, attack innocent people, rape, pillage, and destroy. If you really want to break it down...God is the reason a lot of people have died.
