Okay, I figured since I have so many awesome things to say about the state I live in...we should have a thread to name the "awesome" things about our state (do note the quotations, make fun of your state, please).

Illinois, one of the few states that if you do get stranded in the middle...no one can point you north, and the stars don't shine bright enough to point you either...

California-

- The only place where "tax-and-spend" is not just an economic policy... it's a way of life in state government.

- The only state that seems intent on driving out every form of major industry here.

- The only state where being a "hippie" (along with all the kooky philosophies one would have) will get you into government office.

- The only state where you can find no less than FIVE Mexican restaurant all within the area of a half-block of each other.

- The only place where mediocrity isn't only encouraged, it's a mandatory practice!

Illinois politicians are some of the brightest politicians around, "well, we spent all the money, luckily we have citizens we can up the taxes by 50% on and make it all back!"...

Ohio.. All the hookers have been arrested more than 20 times and they have one felony

Minnesota

- Where the state government has more members in the house and senate than the US government does.

- Where the people actually elected a former WWF wrestler to office, and he did better than most in the past.

- You can't buy alcohol on Sunday, but a grandmother can rack up 21 DUIs and not go to jail.

- Black prisoner population is about 45%, they make up 6% of the population.

- Kinda like the south, a lot of racists, but up here they smile at you after calling you a derogatory word.

- School bus drivers make more than teachers do in most cases.

- Welfare system up here is one of the most liberal systems in the US, people flock here to get more money than where they live.

- A take and bake pizza place is now accepting food stamps for their pizzas.

OR: Rhode Island....the non island state

Illinois; here, you really can get away with murder but only if you know the right people.

California-

- The only place where a parking attendant will claim he's got a three-picture deal with Paramount.

- The only place where the local politicians will try to pass a "filming tax" on productions filming there, because there's "too much filming going on" DESPITE the fact there hasn't been a REAL production to film in the state since the passage of NAFTA in 1993.

I like Ohio.

That's because Michigan is giving away so many tax credits for productions to be filmed here! When we have one of the highest rates of unemployment and our state budget is in the red. LOL go figure.

Give me Hawaii anytime. It may be the most liberal state in the union. But it is mostly sunny all the time and great beaches with fine looking scenery

New Mexico

-62% of 14-17 year old women have a child

-The state exports more marijuana than any legal product

-Albuquerque's #1 industry is construction, so if it stops growing, it dies

-Because its the desert, 90% of all the plants that grow here are considered weeds everywhere else

-There's no Mexican food here, just New Mexican food. And there's a reason why its only found in New Mexico. Only New Mexicans seem to like it.

-Studies have shown that there's a higher rate of childhood obesity because the only real places to go for entertainment here are bars and clubs

-And if you go to a bar or club in Albuquerque there's a two beer limit, yet we still have one of the highest numbers of drunk drivers on the road

-In Santa Fe, no restaurant will serve any beef under medium well. So if you like your meat pink or bloody, there's no restaurant that will accommodate you.

Minnesota

- 3rd highest DUIs in the US, right behind Wisconsin and North Dakota.
