So, are you implying that Judaism is the cuase of the world's ills? I think Hitler tried that, if I recall correctly, it didn't really get him too far. huh

I think you are refering to monotheism, and not Judaism.

Well yes, that is true. However, it also earned him the distinction of being one of the most (if not the most) reviled man in history. Not to mention his own death. flowerforyou

I am not implying to anything if you read the post correctly Minglers. I am merely asking for your opinion. There are three answers to choose from.

One choice is to say you believe Judaism provides a better world.

Another choice says nothing changes and the world is the same with or without the foundations of Judaism.

and the last choice says the world is worst off with the existence of Judaism.

These are your options and you can choose what you personally believe to be true.

Also I am baffled why I get replies asking what about Christianity and Muslim religion. If you look at the original post it says without Judaism the birth of Christianity and Muslim would not exist.

Please fellow Minglers read this through and give a honest opinion what you believe to be true.

I am sure we can give our opinions without attacking each other like primitive animals. Let us have respect or at least tolerance to differing opinions. Thank you.

WHAT ABOUT MUSLIMS?????????????

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound as if I was attacking. I was simply questioning the question. I still question it, the point of it. Frankly, in my opinion, it hints at anti-semitism. I say that because you chose a religion that is one of the most highly attacked religions in the world. You didn't choose, say, Hinduism, which is practiced by far more people in the world than any other religion AND is far older than Judaism. You chose Judaism. I question that.

As for an answer, I have none, nor do I have an opinion. You are asking a "what if" that simply has no answer. Judaism is, and has been, for 1000's of years. Whether things would be the same, different, better, worse, is unanswerable. It's like asking whether our world would be better if there was no such thing as the sun, or oxygen, or if our bodies didn't bleed. We cannot know how our world and culture would have evolved without these things.

The simple truth is, the world would be the same. We'd still have some other crackpot religion with probably only one diety, it'd just be called something else and be a little different, not much though.

You see, it was necessary for the one god to drive out the many. If they were truly "gods" there wouldn't be a need for more than one. In all multi-theist cultures there is usually one god that presides over the rest Zeus, Jupiter, etc.. The logic that there only needed to be the one, eventualy would have taken place anyway. Just as now the "no god" idea is starting to chip away at the idea of the "one god."

I'm not trying to offend anyone here, but I think that as (hu)man evolves, our understanding of the universe will make the notion of gods and the existance of "god-like" things seem more like childhood fairy tales.

I can see who is applying the anti-sematic nature to the question, you don't need to keep expounding on it.

My message was for all Minglers.

There are some historians who can answer it. Then again there are some theologists who can give their opinion also.

It is a matter of perspective and last but not least opinion.

I chose Judaism because it gave birth to Christianity and later the Muslim religion which covers more members then Hinduism as a whole as we know it today.

Hinduism has many followers but not as much as the combined three that I mention above.

It is merely a question that many take offense, but those who have reasoning skills can contemplate and give a answer to.

So in the end we as the homo sapiens would still find a way to conquer each other with or without a religion. There would still be atrocities commited.

It is said that at one time we where 3 different human species. The neananderthalers and the homo erectus I believe the other two were called. It is also said that we the homo sapiens had driven them out being the soul surviving humans of this planet because of our aggressive nature in comparison of the two.

It makes you wonder if the homo sapiens didn't survive how this world would be. Would it be more peaceful because of the more peaceful nature ( so it is said) of the other two human species?

Now you're talking my language. Of course I believe the world would be a better place without the humans. Have you seen how disorganized we are? I mean even the kangaroo has evolved with a pouch to keeps it's important stuff, what do we have? I-phones? A lot of help those are!!

Now that we are getting to the core of it, yes, the neanderthals had it right. Draw a few dear on the wall, talk about your day, your existance. Don't worry about philosophy, that only leads to downt he road of excess and vanity. I mean who's god's lead a meager existance? (if I remember right Buddhists actually don't have a god) So in our nature to become "god-like" we take on the evil vices of our gods and then place the blame on a non-existant "evil-doer." Nope, neanderthals if only they'd of beat us out.

The problem is that we are not certain if the neananderthalers or the homo erectus were any better off in containing aggressiveness then the homo sapiens. I mean perhaps they where as aggressive in nature also, but just didn't succeed because of lack of intelligence.

Psychologists have studied aggressiveness in animals for many years. They have seen that it is only used for survival technics for a few hours until their stomachs are full. This was the case for us for thousands of years until we have become more technologically inclined.

Another problem that poses a problem is:

Before the humans came the world animals were also eating each other up. One had to survive by killing something even if it is just a simple plant. It hasn't changed today either! We still need to do the same thing.

This then leads back to what philosophers have been asking for thousands upon thousands of years. Why we must live in such a state to have to end life to stay alive?

That is where religion began to play a role in peoples lives as some believed to have the answers. And because they believed to have the answers many started to believe with them to create a group of believers. Eventually when writing was more effective those beliefs began to have a name. A name that people will know off creating religions.

I of course do not have the answers, but I do have a good time seeing the different view points minglers give such as the one I offer in this thread.

Whatever it is worth (together) we will find a way. drinker

Well, the way I see it is part of the whole problem is that we humans think we are way more special than we actually are. From what I can tell, we aren't even the smartest species currently residing on this planet, not even sure if we come in second. The fact that we take ourselves as some great thing leads us to think that there has to be "something more."

What is it about us that makes us so special as to be singled out. Why doesn't the dog have a place in this afterlife? Is there life any less valuable? Was their creator not as pleased with that creation? What makes the human believe that of all the things on this world or in this universe we are the most precious? Vanity, pure and simple. We have no knowledge of the outer universe, there could be something out there that God is really impressed with. We might not even be in the top 100. This is how religion loses it's perspective, it's idiocentric, meaning it was thought up by idiots.

One also might want to think of the rational of listening to texts and dogmas written by people who didn't even have the concept of running water. Would the advice be the same if written today? I doubt the section on what foods are considered "unclean" would be. Those were written in a time that a pork chop or bacon or even tomatoes would kill you. Hence, there is a lot of things in the texts that would be a little different today.

For those who work with standard religions, ask this why did god stop sending the healers and prophets? Couldn't we really use one of those right about now?
