Ok..so I thought that I had the problem with my comp fixed but nope!..now after going through heck and back to get the hard drive installed which I think I finally did..The thing still won't get online..now its going to a white page saying "Page cannot be displayed" and asks if I want to go online to view it..well when I press "yes"(even though I thought it WAS online) it still won't do anything and I don't know why..should I just put the laptop on the floor and roll over it with my chair or what..i'm sick of this thing..lol

First thing you have to do is go into the Control Panel and make sure that your Internet is connecting.

What version of Windows are you using?

Have you tried to reboot your system, after you made your last changes?

what

Also...try unplugging your modem and any routers you may have...count to 15-20 seconds, and plug them back in, so they can set their selves back up. May not work...but has most of the time with me.

if the above suggestions don't work, try calling your ISP's tech support line.

Do you have more than one computer in the house connected to the internet?

What kind of internet do you have?
A. Dialup - phone cord directly from computer to the wall socket.
B. DSL - phone cord from modem to wall socket and blue cord from modem to computer.
C. Cable - same as DSL except uses a cable (round cord) from the wall to the modem.
D. Wireless no cord between the computer and the modem (DSL and Cable can be wireless).

If you go to Start Menu -> Control Panel -> Hardware -> DeviceManager do you have any lines with yellow or red circles?

just need a little more info...

They are probably gonna tell her to go into the Control Panel and check to make sure that her Internet Connection is enabled.

The first thing I suggest is to check and make sure you don't have any drivers messing up on you.

Start -> Right click "My Computer" then Properties -> Hardware tab -> Device Manager -> Check the window and make sure there isn't anything saying no device drivers installed.

If everything looks okay there then I would move onto the next step.

Start -> Control Panel -> If its in classic view -> Network Connections

Check if you have any internet connections going through to your laptop. If so, check the status of them likely a Local Area Connection. Make sure it says Connected.

If not, right click the connection and Enable. Give it a second to either tell you its been connected or not. If it says connected, try to use your internet.

Post back any results.

Don't give up...not all is lost!

If you will send me the model number off your machine, and the name of operating system that you are running, there is a good chance I can find the "Recovery Disc" that came with it to start with.

Then you could restore it back to factory specs. If found, there may be a small fee to order it...most of the time $10-$20 bucks at the most...unless it is an exceptional system.

I would/could help you out that much...the recovery disc may be the only thing you need.

You can send info to me by e-mail, or post it here...either way!

Do you have a storage device? USB, floppy, or even a DVD. Something you can copy the files from one computer with internet access over to another? Shouldn't be difficult, can take a floppy into most libraries and they let you do what you will with it...just go to the manufacture site and download the drivers for your network card. Probably be a few but it should be explained what they are for on the site you get them from.

Nope I don't have another computer..I've been using a webtv since my comp decided to commit suicide on me and it don't do anything like that.

I had to bite the bullet and replace mine. So far I think Windows 7 stinks. Xp was easy to use compared to this.

You have a labtop then your network card is integrated and the only thing you can do is to find the driver for it, try a little program called "UNKNOWNDEVICE" its a freeware (free) and small and will tell you the brand name and model number for you to find the right drivers.

Usually would download the program but since you can't access internet you will have to find it through a friend and have them put it either on CD-R or USB device and once you know what model to look for you then do the same for downloading the drivers and then bring them to your computer.

If you are using WebTv at the same time as you are trying to connect, well this may be your whole problem! Unhook your connection to the TV!!! then reboot your computer!
