Hello fellow writers, or at least all of us who think we are.
The real writers I appreicate all the knowledge, you would like to share.

I want to know flat out if my poems suck or not.
I have posted a few, even tried a short story, nobody seemed to be interested in that though.

I am told by people who are close to me they are very good, but they are biased, I would think. Some of you have left notes on my post's which is very encourging, Thanks,
They are simple poems, Like myself,I try not to make the reader think too hard, just want them to feel something after they read it, I feel that's all that matters.

Well. I thank you all in advance,
Michael

Michael-

I don't really view this forum as one for serious critiques of another persons work. Many of us do it for ourselves and are not concerned about publishing. If you want serious criticisms-meaning what lines need changed, bad, good, hate it, love it-there are sites that provide that guidance. I warn you to be prepared to have a thick skin.

We try to be supportive here, because many people that post are doing so for the first time and find putting their work out there scary. If they have a bad experience-they might be scared to write anything else. We have discussed having an area for serious criticism, but it hasn't happened.

If you wish to improve and move forward with the level of your work- joining a site providing a more analytical criticism might be good. There you could see critiques for all levels of writing.

better yet check out any creative writing classes in your area @ Community Colleges or Adult Education.

I have been frustrated with the online writers clinics. There are so many people your posting are limited.

I found it much more helpful to have a credible writer with feedback from class mates.

I write for a focus, been writing for 10 or so years. Looking at doing it and producing music for my lyrics. A lot of people here just write for therapy or a way to get out emotions, if you are looking for a serious community for writing do a google search or some sort of search engine like that.

I also do a side of gonzo journalism, which I'm in the process of writing a book...which can and probably will take years to complete. Writing is about the author more than the target audience, what the author wants to do and how they want to go about it...so it comes down to what you want to do with it.

Very true Fear. Almost all of what I post here are therapy type poems. I tend not to post my other writings here.

I post most of my writing here but I have all of them time stamped and encoded on my harddrive so anyone that uses them will be handled legally according to the DMCA. Had a run in like that at an old forum I was apart of, usually the threat of legal trouble is enough to persuade most to take it down or admit the author.

You do realize that having them time stamped and encoded do not constitute copyright, yes?

Michael there are a variety of online writing groups where you can post your work for very valid and honest critiquing. However as Pam has stated, you may have to have a thin skin on some of them. But we dont learn without a little harsh critiquing periodically. Let's face it, just 'cuz mom, dad, uncle bob, aunt gert or whomever may think we're all that and a bag of chips does not necessarily make us "writers".

Well,,,first of all,,,THIS PLACE IS WEIRD!!!!!,lol.

Your write or your poem,,could be world-class,,,,
yet HERE,,it may go-bye,,,,w/o even two or three repling to it.
I have NEVER figured out as to WHY THAT HAPPENS,,,but it does!

So please don't think that its your writing abilties, its MORE the people on here, and what time you post, and if they feel they even want to read a work by someone they might feel is a new member?

I write to express my feelings in past, present, and future.
I write to make some smiles, some tears, some,,,lol,ODD LOOKS!.

But its ALL in writing for the feelings YOU FEEL INSIDE,,and showing them in words that others MIGHT,,,,,FEEL,,,,which are in your heart and mind...Good luck and many of your replies here,
are GREAT concepts for you to try,,wink, drinker

Didn't say that. I said it is time stamped and encoded on my harddrive, it would be rather difficult for someone to get the date and time all of my writing was written on and place that into it. If you read the other portion of my post, I've been through this before...the proof is in the saved file on my harddrive that I wrote it way before anyone can claim it as their own.

write for yourself. the only critic that matters.

the rest is pulp fiction.
threadbare and wanting.

but when you truly write for yourself,
honesty stings.
