Look, if celibacy works for you, then fine, it works for you, but please do not try to portray that it works for everyone. Some people do not put as high a price tag on sex as others. It's fun but it's not worth all of that.

..celibacy shows control, which to me is strength and the ability to intelligently rise above one's urges

Question: what do you guys think about celibacy/abstaining until involved in a serious relationship?

I think its the MOST respectful thing anyone can do and I hold those who manage it in HIGH REGARD.

Hummmm serious relationship before hand hummm.....

Well for me it has to be with someone that I want to be with but as far as how serious it will be who knows till after the fact you have actually sleep with them....

Not into a one night stand or a booty call but not planning on committing completely to another before it happens. Sure I want to get to know them for a bit first. But to say we totally have a relationship prior to sex is unreal what if the sex sucks? Ya still in gun hoe? Hummmmmm that is what bonds two people together in the end......whoa

So ya I want a trial run before I totally commit to another.......

Perhaps mutual interests, sharing similar values, and respecting one another are things that bond couples together moreso than sex. Hey, who broke the bed?!? VERY FUNNY

I worked in a psychiatric facility that had group therapy for sexual anorexia. The premise was that when you deny yourself sex you have other underlying issues much like the anorexic and food, and of course you need help to become sexual.

Celibacy does take restraint and 'won't power'. Hats off to anyone that does it while battling the urge to not. I however live only one life and would rather enjoy every moment and never pass up on the opportunity to enjoy the bestest feeling in the world. Waiting for a long time before getting it on is a waste of time for me.

At some point you may feel that the relationship is serious but then you may not be compatible sexually. I think it is a tough choice.

IMHO celibacy is a perversion. It's an unnatural state for humans. We evolved as sexual beings. the most sexual beings we know of in fact. To deny our nature is to deny being human.

seriously? how sad,, more proof that the psychological industry will label ANYTHING an illness if they can make some money

I don't know. The Catholic Church came along and really blitzed the whole thing with sex as procreation ONLY, and not for pleasure. Compound that on 1500 years and it's bound to create some issues.

I can see there being a need for getting people over their inhibitions, without going to the opposite extreme. Between sex therapy and studies done by the Kinsey Institute on sexuality, I think we've come a long way.
