when did ignoring someone become the accepted way of letting them know you're not interested?

i thought honesty and straightforwardness were the things that people expected and respected.

if someone isn't interested, isn't it better for them to tell you than to just pretend you're not there?
even in the electric world it doesn't seem right. if i were talking to someone at a bar and they lost interest would they just completely ignore me? they might feign some reason for departing, but i doubt they would just pretend that i wasn't there.

i don't get it.

In my line of work, we respond to rude people and people that we don't do business with with a four letter word: NEXT!

it's one thing if they don't respond to an initial contact, but to just completely drop a conversation is another thing altogether.

i don't like it when they don't respond to an initial contact especially when the site provides them with a default not interested response, but i get it. the other just baffles me.

zanne, you are right. But wait there's more. They also may have feelings of apathy, lack of remorse, no compassion, and in general socially mal-equipped. I was going to say the "r" word but some people might get upset on here if I used it, so I must restrain. Good to see you all on here tonight. Here here. drinker

I don't know Drew, when I'm not interested I'm careful about what I say b/c some do not take rejection very well and then you get nasty emails which is not cool.. I don't look at it as I'm gutless, I look at it as I'm avoiding conflict.. I don't like p*ssing matches unless I decide I want one and it's definitely not when I'm rejecting someone... That's not cool.. No need to be rude to someone on top of rejection or them to be rude to you b/c you're not interested...

Maybe this person has had bad experiences as I've had and a lot of women on here and other sites have had..

i just find it rude.

if a woman shows interest and i'm not feeling it, i tell her "thanks but not interested."
to me it's better than just ignoring her. at least she's not sitting back saying "that d!ck won't even bother to tell me he's not interested." hopefully they have some respect for me for being straightforward.

but to just not reply to a message that was sent as a reply to her message is a little fvcked if you ask me.

Ok, guilty as charged!! I'm bad to ignore if I'm not interested. Seems they are the ones who keep persisting. Finally after several emails of "when we getting together" or "I'll be in your area next week, wanna hook up" I finally told a guy today "you'd think after several attempt to reach me with no response that you'd got it by now that I'm just not interested in you" thx. I've even replied to some that I'm not interested & they just don't seem to get it. So, either way they're going to email me. I guess I should be flattered...noway

If they've had bad experiences before, it does tend to skew things that way. But dropping the ball can be just as hurtful or worse than saying I don't think it's working for us. Nasty or mean e-mails - definitely not cool. Then those clowns should be ignored. I understand what you're saying though, Princess.

maybe she will reply later.. sometimes I read emails and don't reply b/c I'm either working and didn't know I was opening something that would take time to respond or I need to think about how to respond for various reasons...

totally not going to play the game. if she's expecting me to pursue, she's gonna be waiting a long time. and if that's what she's playing at, i hope she starts wondering what's wrong with herself that makes me not want to pursue.
