I think each profession and field have acronyms. I know with social work, we tend to be wordy people, but very short on time and need to use them. Also, acronyms are used to maintain confidentiality. If two social workers met for lunch and were discussing a case, acronyms would be used.

However, the acronyms get confusing because social workers practice within a variety of fields.

Anyways, I generally prefer to type things out online because there tends to be less confusion and miscommunications.

idk, jk, no really i had to learn a few just to know what the kids were texting each other about. (i'm one of those dads who invaids my minor children's privacy.)

Biggest problem is acronyms mean one thing to you and something else to the other person. I was in human resources and worked a lot with Short term disabilities. My daughter was in school studying sex ed. When I talked about STD's - she was shocked LOL

All I know is that when I hear someone use internet acronyms in real life I just want to slap them.

We have a ton of for work. They're hard to keep track of.

im in the military, there are tons of them, and you just say them like a word, new people are so confused, but you catch on pretty quick. Some of them do save alot of time and hastle. But some are just ridiculous! As far as someone Saying something like 'lol' or 'omg' thats just dumb. I think I have let a couple slip, but thats because I have the bad habit of txting while I am talking to someone, then halfway through I start typing what I wanted to say and saying what I wanted to type, like omg... its sad I know...
