ok, but isn't that what each follower is saying, my creator is the only righteous one, and yours sux. be like me and we will live happily ever after. what if we all believed in what we wanted and respected each other enough not to force our views on each other. what's with the need to have someone believe what you believe?

Well, I'm in total agreement with that.

A world with no proselytizing would be great.

Unfortunately, that's not the world we live in.

I'm not attempting to convince you what "god" might be like, or whether any "god" exists or not.

I was just addressing what I see as inconsistencies in a specific cannon of fables. Think of it as a "book review".

We could be talking about the fables of Zeus as far as I'm concerned.

Yes Satan is the cause of alot of people's behaviours and actions, but never a reasoning. It still boils down to our own choice to either do the sinful action or not. Nothing can MAKE anyone do anything, it is still our own responsibility to do the right thing.

That's an oxymoronic statement. How can Satan be the 'cause' of anyone's actions if people always have the free will to make their own choices? huh

In fact, you continually accuse everyone who refuses to accept that the ancient Hebrews speak for God, but there is clearly nothing 'sinful' about disbelieving the words of a bunch of mortal men.

That's not the same as refusing to obey a "God" who actually makes himself known.

So until your God actually shows himself, it's absurd to believe that he would "pass judgment" on anyone for not obeying him. He hasn't directly communicated with them and therefore cannot claim that they refused him.

At best, in his infinite wisdom he could clearly see that all they are doing is refusing to believe the tall tales of other mortal men.

In fact, you reject the tall tales of many mortal men. Just like the OP suggests, "When religious 'believers' understand why they dismiss all possible gods and religions except for their one 'true' god , they will understand why I dismiss theirs."

There's no reason to believe that the ancient Hebrews had the "only" connection with the creator of ALL humanity. In fact, such a notion is actually quite unrealistic and unbelievable.

If there is a creator of all of humanity who is attempting to communicate with us, he/she/it would surely attempt to communicate with all cultures equally. To believe that the creator of humanity would single out a particular culture and political nation as its "chosen" people is unreasonable.

The very fact that these ancient Hebrews make such a claim is reason to highly suspect their religious bigotry.

Ab...You did the world a favor when you changed your mind, not becoming a preacher/pastor. Are you soldout for wicca now? or will you defect that too and choose another one this time next year. With observation it's plain to see you are wishy washy or euphemistically, agnostic. Meaning...you just don't know what to believe. You hammer away at the God of the bible hoping you will get some fantastic knowledge that you can run away with to misconstrue. If you had continued your study in the WORD and trusted and not doubted, you may have been blessed with some true wisdom. The LORD's true preachers won't defect. You cut yourself short. Truth is hidden from you. You have that "strong delusion" that the WORD of God speaks of.

God shall send them strong delusion,

And no it's not an oxymoron. Let me put it in more of a everyday perspective that has the same concept.

You're sit'n with your woman in the car driving around lost. You come to a 4way. You have the free will to go right if you want. You may even feel that's the way to go. But you allow your girlfriend to persuade you to go left. So you listen to her and take a left getting further lost, when in the end you realize you should really have gone right.

She didn't "force" you to go left. She didn't "make" you go left. You willingly went left instead of right on your own free will.

So as you can see she was the cause for you to go left, but you could never blame her for getting you guys further lost for it was nevertheless your choice to listen and go left. So I ask you to go right instead of straying off to the left. Listen to your heart and hear the worlds our father tells you. Let no interference change your direction, keep on the right path to the lord.

The mere fact that you'd rather crucify me, an innocent man, than to address point-by-point where you think I might be mistaken, clearly shows that you ultimately recognize that my observations cannot be contested.

Should I be surprised that someone who worships these biblical myths is so anxious to crucify the character of another in the name of religion? whoa

I get this all my life. I point out the absurdities, falsehoods, and contradictions in the biblical myth and people cannot offer intelligent explanations to counter my observations. So out of pure frustration they start attacking my personal character in the belief that if they can make it appear that my observations are meaningless then they won't need to explain them away. laugh

Sorry, dear, that approach never gets anywhere. That's the mentality that causes things like the Crusades or witch burnings to happen. Just claim that the non-believers are either heathens or that they have sold their souls to the devil. devil

If there's something I say that you disagree with, try addressing that topic or issue directly instead of climbing on your righteous pedestal and condemning me to be a "lost soul". whoa

That's absurd behavior in itself and just confirms my observations about what these fables cause people to act like.

Abracadabra's photo

he saying that when a girlfriend nags it takes away "Free Will"

I think he's basically saying that God is his girlfriend.

Christianity is all about 'lost' souls.

In fact, according to the Bible Jesus prefers lost souls over those who are not lost:

Matt.18

[11] For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.
[12] How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray?
[13] And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray.

So according to this Jesus prefers to seek out lost souls and rejoice over finding them far more than just keeping sheep who do not go astray. He obviously says that he's going to seek them out too, not the other way around.

So the next time your girlfriend tells you to take a left, do it!

Jesus will be so happy!

Which brings us to yet another Biblical contradiction-- that of free will vs. a God who can theoretically send delusions.

If the Christian god is omnipotent and ethically not bound by his own covenants of not abrogating free will, something's not right in Dodge about this biblical quote.

Although not a contradiction as such, it is nevertheless ironic that you quote a verse from Paul, a man who persecuted Christians until his sudden conversion, to browbeat someone you claim is 'wishy-washy'. I wonder if there wasn't a little projection going on here on Paul's part?

Excellent points.

A God who lusts to be worshiped yet sends people who SEEK him DELUSIONS to believe a lie. whoa

I'd need to believe that God is a truly underhanded and totally untrustworthy being. Why would I want to even worship a God who would be so outright mean to people?

This God isn't anywhere near as nice of a person as I am. I wouldn't even be as mean to my cat as this God apparently is to his pet humans.

A God who WANTS me to believe in him and worship him, yet he purposefully DELUDES me into believing lies? huh

That would be a very nasty thing to do to someone, IMHO.

I'm supposed to believe this?

That's the problem with this religion, they want to claim that their God is all-wise, all-just and all-merciful, yet at the same time they portray him as pulling sadistic stunts like this on people.

And, of course, this comes right out of the fable. So it's the actual scriptures that are utterly absurd.

Even if your children do survive to grow up, I will take them from you. It will be a terrible day when I turn away and leave you alone. I have watched Israel become as beautiful and pleasant as Tyre. But now Israel will bring out her children to be slaughtered." O LORD, what should I request for your people? I will ask for wombs that don't give birth and breasts that give no milk. The LORD says, "All their wickedness began at Gilgal; there I began to hate them. I will drive them from my land because of their evil actions. I will love them no more because all their leaders are rebels. The people of Israel are stricken. Their roots are dried up; they will bear no more fruit.
