I wonder what things I will know ten years from now that I dont know now?

with time , definitely comes more knowledge(however slight)

I was grown(in my twenties) before I knew what food stamps or sunscreen were

which things did you grow up oblivious to?

I'm not trying to sound like a know it all, but there are few things I was oblivious too.

I knew growing up what was right and what was wrong at an early age. As far as oblivious goes, that is one that is going to require me to think a little. Maybe someone else with an answer will help my spark it.

Sex.
Never saw it, heard it, dreamed of it.
When I was 10, my Mother took my sister
(2 years older than me) and I, to
the Library.
'Today we learn about sex.'
Me, 'Say what?'

She gets this big old book, with pictures
and plops us down in front of it.
She flips to a page where the guy and gal
are facing each other.

'Do you see where he puts it?'
she asked us.
Well, duh, I am thinking. It was pointed
straight at her belly button.
Seemed pretty clear to me, so I got up and
went out to play on the swings.

So, until I was maybe a senior in high
school, I thought I had it all figured out.
I learned different, of course :-)

just to show we all can't be the coolest person in the family shed...

my brother's bday in april 20th, so for all his online screen names he would put 420 on the end. TOOK HIM YEARS (and in his 30's) of wondering why people would say "hey, cool! 420 friendly". OBLIVIOUS. i was almost embarrassed to be related when i found this out, almost.

420's origin IS known.
the term 420 originated at San Rafael High School, in 1971, among a group of about a dozen pot-smoking wiseacres who called themselves the Waldos, who are now pushing 50. The term was shorthand for the time of day the group would meet, at the campus statue of Louis Pasteur, to smoke pot. Intent on developing their own discreet language, they made 420 code for a time to get high, and its use spread among members of an entire generation.
So there ya go, someone's parents out there invented the term 4/20.
And remember this:
There are NOT 420 chemicals in Weed. It's about 315, the num. goes up or down depending on what you're smoking.
4/20 is NOT police code or Maryjane.
And that whole **** about Holland and 4/20 over there being "tea time" for smokers isn't true either.
I know my ****.

With so many siblings (10)it was hard to be oblivious about much but I remember when my best friend told me she had 'done it' I was just grossed out! Freaked out even. How could you? Why would you?

A few years later I figured it all out and many years later found a man who had FINALLY figured it all out!! rofl

I didn't realize how little I knew until I was about 35, it was about the same time it came to me that what I did know, is completely worthless in most situations. ohwell

I suppose I was naive that people are complex. I was floored in college to learn of Jefferson being a slave owner and relationship with Sally Hemings.

I guess pedistals are dangerous. On the flipside.....

When my 10yo niece exclaimed, "Mean people don't SUCK....they're just HURT" it brought a tear and forced me to look a little deeper.

Well, when I was younger, a dollar felt like a million bucks, now, it feels like a million bucks won't even get you a tank of gas. grumble

The older you get the more you realize there are a lot of things you don't know.

And if you don't know that you don't know nothing.
