I really don't think the changes have been that bad considering the length of some of the books. And besides there are many classic films that made HUGE changes from the books they are adapted from- Planet Of The Apes '68, the original Frankenstein...

I'm getting out of the house and going to go see the movie today and maybe stick around to watch Transformers also. When I read the third Harry Potter book then watched the movie I was kinda disappointed because of all the changes. One was he was suppose to get his new broom stick from Sirius shortly after his other one got broke, but in the movie he got it at the very end.

One movie that came out after I read the book was completely different from the book. It really had nothing in common with the book except for the names of the people. It was called Blood and Chocolate.

Actually, I didn't find the changes to horrible. The movies came across more dark, but other then that, not too bad overall, especially for how impressively detailed it was.

I give the first half of the movie a grade C. The tempo and tone were off the mark for what they were trying to establish. In parts where there was a sense of danger or urgency, I just didn't feel it. That's because the pace of the movie sometimes lulled for too long of a stretch.

The second half rose the overall grade to a B- in my opinion. Severus's memories were not only the turning point for the film, but also the best scene of the whole movie. (To be honest, it may eventually rank among my favorite scenes from the entire franchise.) After that scene, the tone and tempo altered building towards the movie's climax, thereby saving me from disappointment.

If the first half had a similar impact, I would have given the movie an overall grade of B+/A-.

I also think I understand the ending, which I won't spoil for those who haven't seen it yet.

I thought the movie was good and have read all the books. Book 5 is still my favorite and the movie is as well.

For those who haven't read any of the books, do you feel like you have a good grasp of what happened? It seems like the movies moved pretty fast, since there was a lot left out and would confuse those who haven't read the books a bit.

The pacing worked great for me. I kind of expected it to be a run from start to finish, but spreading the action a bit kept me interested, especially since the action was separated by details of interest. That's just me, though.

I got to see it tonight and to be honest ... I was a bit disappointed. They did a very good job with all the detail in the movie ... except the scene with Harry's battle with Voldemort, Neville and Nagini and Mrs. Weasely. The battle would have been so much more dramatic (and explanatory) if they followed the book. Neville's bit was changed to make it more dramatic, but was pale compared to the book and Molly Weasley's bit was just plain dull.

I agree that the speed of the beginning was too slow; then they jammed the final part of the battle, which should have gotten the lion's share of attention, into too short a time. It would have confused me if I hadn't read the book.

Normally, I would have forgiven the changes because the best part of the movies is to see the characters personified and to follow their growth. Don't get me wrong; it's still an awesome movie but IMO it would have been even more amazing if they followed the book more closely.

My 9yo daughter read the entire 7 books and she has always been a bit disappointed when she gets to watch each movie saying it's not really what the book describes of this and that particular scene or plot... well then it's almost always the case for any movie lifted from a book.

I've watched this movie twice in 3D and IMAX, both times I enjoyed it so much. I  in both times too, having Harry lost a lot of his friends but not so much as when I read that part in the book.

It is now at the #15 spot on the 50 Highest Grossing Films of all time! Looks like it will be at #14 by the end of the day. All 8 of the films are on that list in the top 30, most in the top 15-20.

Not to mention in the book the final battle take place inside Hogwarts with Kingsley, Slughorn and another fighting Voldemort before Harry confronts him again. They could have gone into a lot more detail and added anoother 30 minutes or so to the film.

It was to short as it is, the shortest Harry Potter film made.

I actually thought it was good and didn't think it was slow at all. There's only so much they can put into the movies from the books. If you've seen any of the previous movies, you know they just can't add everything. I thought it was a good ending to the movies, though.

I'm a bigggg HP fan and have first editions in all of the books. The movie was excellent....not as good as the book but then again they never are.

The only things I was disappointed about was that Harry killed Voldemort in front of everyone in the book and I think they should have stuck to that. I also think they should have stuck to the book for Molly Weasley and Neville Longbottoms parts.

J K Rowling is a genius and deserves every penny she has made. HP has gotten my kids reading and that's the best thing about it, as well as the story of course!
