With five simple words, Mitt Romney just ended any chance he has at ever being elected President of the United States.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney faced unfriendly fairgoers at the Iowa State Fair Thursday, telling them that he wouldn’t raise taxes on corporations to save Social Security because “corporations are people.”

Yes, he really said that. Check out the video, here.

I can guarantee you one thing: if Mitt Romney is the nominee for President for the Republican Party, that line will appear in every single Democrat advertisement. Every. Last. One. And why? Because it's a damning statement into the mindset of the corporate whores who have taken over our political system. Because it's an abominable thing to say and it's even worse to think it, govern by it, and manipulate America around it. Because an overwhelming majority of Americans know, intuitively, that corporate America has far more influence than it should.

It's a horrible world view, and if the GOP has any common sense left in it, this will be the last we hear of Romney as a serious candidate for office. You don't have to be Dylan Ratigan to see that.

I have no idea what the Republican Party will do with Romney, now that he is a dead candidate walking. The GOP has an odd tendency to rally around unpopular leaders when those leaders are "attacked" (fairly or unfairly) by the media, so in some circles, this gaffe might make him MORE popular. This is doubly true if Fox News decides to play its usual ******** spin game, and runs cover for Romney.

No he didn't say "that". He said only "I wont raise taxes. If you want to raise taxes you can vote for someone else."

The person there was irate and wouldn't even let him answer the question because he was just shouting and yelling. You can increase tax revenue without raising taxes btw. If he for that I am not sure. Did anyone ask him that? I am not sure. Is social security poorly designed? Probably. Do they need to find a way to phase it out in the next 50 or so years? Probably. As people are living longer and longer and and the value of money decreases over time it is not a very good system. Gene therapy to prevent Aging will probably be out in some of the younger peoples lifetime.

He did say that corporations are people. I heard him say that.

But anytime any politician says they won't raise taxes, can your seriously believe them?

In our state, a licence for your car has tripled in cost and if you are late paying it, there is a fine for every month you don't pay it. It's not "taxes" they say. It is fees to help pay for the roads etc...

What the hell do my taxes pay for? They are supposed to pay for the roads.

Every time I turn around there are more fines and fees and penalties. Its bull crap.

I missed it,,, whats wrong with 'corporations are people'?
(and isnt that THREE Words?)

not raising taxes is another issue,,,, since taxes usually have income brackets and comparing corporations to people should place them and their tax/income bracket to the same standards of people in specfic income brackets

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney faced unfriendly fairgoers at the Iowa State Fair Thursday, telling them that he wouldn’t raise taxes on corporations to save Social Security because “corporations are people.”

“What are you going to do to strengthen Social Security and Medicare without cutting federal spending?” one fairgoer asked.

“I’m not going to raise taxes,” Romney insisted. “That’s my answer.”

“Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid account for about half of federal spending,” the candidate later said.

“That’s a lie!” a person in the audience shouted.

“We have to make sure the promises we make in Social Security, Medicaid, and Medicare are promises we can keep. And there are various ways of doing that. One is we can raise taxes on people,” Romney explained.

“Corporations!” someone yelled.

“Corporations are people, my friend,” Romney replied. “Of course they are. Everything corporations earn ultimately goes to people.”

“corporations are people.”

If so, why isn't Enron sharing a cell with Bernie Madoff?

But hey, I guess now some GOPers can say 'Some of my best friends are corporations' and none will be the wiser.

Unless of course, two same-sex corporations try to get together or corporations start having abortions...

I don't like the guy but I think we would better off with him than the jackass we have now. Many people probably feel the same way and that scares me because he will probably win, fortunately like Obama he will be a one termer.

I would chose alomost anyone over Obama. The only one I wouldn't vote for under any circumstances is Ron Paul, I just can't stand the guy.

With that said I hope Givernor Perry gets the nomination, since whoever gets the nomination will be our next President.

Social security and medicare need to be changed because the current system isn't self sustaining.
