This is a spin-off from another thread about friends and acquaintances, that has got me thinking...

It's all fine and dandy to count your friends, and acquaintances, but something keeps popping into my head...BEFORE you can have friends, you have to know how to be one.

So perhaps it is more to do with who YOU are, what your expectations, limitations, and potential is, that would draw someone to you, for friendship???

So, in all of this, I am asking, why would someone choose YOU as a friend? What do you bring to the table?

acceptance - I love my friends for who they are

and I don't ask for much, don't impose

I really can't bring much else right now...and I am a good friend typically but really have not had much time lately for friends, and my trust is so damaged

but I am the kind of person who will sit up all night with you, listen to your story w/out judgement, make ur breakfast and let you cop my cot when the relatives are drivin ya nutslaugh

I am the type who will plan to shoot or take a class and actually keep the plans

I have been told that I am a good listener, a calming influence, and a lot of fun and full of compassion. I would like to think that these things are positive in the consideration of what makes a friend.

The people I consider my friends are (almostoops ) always willing to listen to me, even when I am just whining over inconsequential stuff that will pass and they try to show me just how silly it is to worry about it. But they are also the ones who are the first to text/call/talk to me when they notice a change in my attitude, knowing I usually don't come out with my problems.

I try, to the best of my abilities, to do the same for them: be there for them when they are screaming about a problem or just sitting a table being overly quiet.

I really love my friends quirks and all and meet them where there are at. I don't try to change them and don't ask anything of them other than for them to be themselves.

I'm a very friendly person and will open my heart for just about anyone. I am always available to lend a listening ear, usually have gas to drive you where you need to go, will babysit your kids, animals and even a snake when needed, I'm pretty good at asking the right questions ifn' you want to take me to your doctor appointment, I'll go out of my way to help you with a new venture, you can tell me I'm a dork and I'll laugh and agree with ya & if you say you need me there now.....I'm already in the car on my way.

I don't put stipulations on what to look for in a friend. There are many reasons people come into and stay or go out of our lives. I've had many people come into mine through the years. Some have stayed and others have not. What I do know is...I don't think I will ever forget all of them; and I suspect they will remember me also

I have nothing to offer. I have no idea why these people are always hanging around me.....unless...they found out about the stash....whoa

I eat cereal twice a day.

Last night my Cheerios actually spelled out a word.

Yeah, they said, "oooooo!"

Keep in mind this type of thing doesn't happen to just anyone. And if that isn't an awesome quality in someone, I don't know what is. indifferent

I am there for my friends 24/7. They can call me anytime day or night if they need someone to talk to. If a friend needs my help; I would drop everything to help them. I would also lay down my life for my best friends.

I guess i only have me to offer, , I'm a little chaotic, constantly coming up with some mad idea, never settled, never moody, constantly smiling, joking and anoying them. But i do love my friends deeply, accepting them for who they are , not who I want them to be.

I believe the best answer to that question would have to come from the friends themselves who enjoy being around you. I am just blunt and up front. Some people call this a flaw... not me.

As I typed out this OP...and then subsequently thought about how I would answer it....I had exactly the same thing going on for me.

I am blunt...and those people who call me friend, seem to respect that of me...they don't ask if their bum looks big in those jeans, if they are having a fragile ego day..noway  They do, however, seem to plonk themselves down with a cuppa, when they are troubled, and want a different veiw on their troubles.

I look at the calibre of people who call me friend, their authenticity, their honesty, their healthy respectful natures, their values, and their hearts and souls....and know I am blessed...and hope that I reflect those qualities back to them.

I have always thought this true about you as I would read your posts. I can picture your friends as being very blessed to have you in their lives.
