Today I saw a group of school girls taunting & laughing at a person ,may be for the dress he worn.

They were loudly singing a song & saying something loudly so that he can listen to them.

I figured, the person didn't pay attention to them but they kept laughing & taunting loudly till he disappeared.

I personally do not dare to tease strangers & wonder how people dare to do so.

any thoughts?

They are insecure and making fun of someone else makes them feel better about themselves.

Well, if they are school girls; they lack maturity and just don't know any better. Kids can be be pretty horrible when they are young. Me, my parents would have beat the hell out of me if I ever teased or taunted anyone.

Good thing I was not the one listening to such stupidity for I would have voiced my opinion to those that felt it necessary to do such actions.

If I ever heard one of my kids or grandkids teasing another I would take a piece of their back side...

It is sad how some feel the need to put another down over such small things...

But...normally those that do have some issues of their own and that makes them feel tougher....noway

People always make fun of me and laugh at me when I leave the house in a dress, but I don't care what they say, I know I look good.

I think this is true in case of adults, but as they were just children I think they were having fun by daring that way & may be the one who was leading the drama was feeling proud of herself.

yeah they were school girls ...may be they were practicing the art of teasing laugh laughActually, me too enjoyed their way of taunting....it wasn't harming & the person was actually dressed funny.

I remember an incident that I saw on a flowing street at afternoon on a busy working day.

Few young boys ( aged between 17 to 20) may be from road side slum were running on the foot path & were shouting & laughing loudly. Then they cached a poor dirty dressed man on the street & beaten him till they spoiled his blood. After seeing him bleeding they got more aggressive & did different tricks to beat him. Both of them hold him tight as he was shouting & crying & one of them came running from far & kicked him as vigorously as he can.....

Me & my companions rushed to help the poor person, then they caught another old beggar type of man & bitten him too without caring about his age.

it was an horrible experience for me & I think they were practicing their future business of robbery & creating terror.

Well, the subject line of your thread referred to "people" rather than just children. So that's what my thoughts were based on. If you were just referring to kids, it's probably about drama, trying to fit in and immaturity.

"TRYING TO FIT IN" would be the exact word to describe their attempt.

It's just more proof that 5,000 years of civilization doesn't trump millions of years of evolution. Humans are tribal by nature. Our brains can't handle more than 100 close relationships. It's our natural instinct to humiliate and drive out "undesirables", so that our gene pool doesn't get contaminated. If you have never had the desire to ostracize someone, then you are defective, not the other way around. I'm not condoning the behavior, I'm just saying that it's part of human nature and we should understand it as such.

Often, those trying to humiliate others are the undesirables.

Why do people taunt & tease?

Human nature.
Since time began.
Some have to diminish others
to elevate themselves.
In their own minds.

Sling a little mud, lose a LOT of ground.

Thats ridiculous..I just want to smack kids faces off when i hear or see that they are bullying or teasing another. Did you say anything to the girls? I would have told them to shut up.

I don't remember what show i was watching but its a show about real reactions in certain scenarios and this was one of them. They set it up so that this group of girls was bullying another girl alone in the park and they secretly recorded peoples reactions. A lot of the people kept walking even though they clearly seen what was going on...very few stopped to intervene. I think as adults even if it isn't our child we should step in and stop it. There are so many depressed and hurt children out there that do the unthinkable (commit suicide, revert to drugs, etc) because of bullying.

A few times, I have pulled over while seeing more that one kid, picking on and hurting another. Usually stop them, and scare them by letting them know, I could do the same to them and will if I see them again. Also did the same to some kids throwing rocks at cars as they drove by. I scarred they heck out of them before they really hurt someone. I think thats bullying and it shouldn't always be taken lightly. What if that was You and no one helped to do what they could.
