maybe you should read up about asian history here... but anyway, that was 200 years ago, and we are still hearing the aftereffects of it...i'm not saying you are right or wrong, but IMO there's way more to it than just poverty... your right, there is a correlation, but i've been at/on poverty levels, and know many who are, and haven't killed/raped anyone...

Four Dead, At Least 22 Wounded in Weekend Shootings

CHICAGO — A bloody weekend in Chicago left at least 22 people shot and four dead in incidents from Friday afternoon through Sunday evening.

On Sunday afternoon, five people were shot, including a 17-year-old boy, who was wounded in the 1500 block of South Millard Avenue. He was taken in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital. Three people were critically wounded in a shooting in Grand Crossing, and another in the Oakland neighborhood.

At least six people were shot between Saturday and Sunday morning.

A 28-year-old man, identified as Larry Randle, of the 1200 block of West 97th Street, was killed near his home about 1 p.m. Saturday, Chicago Police said.

Police said Randle was walking when a light-colored vehicle pulled up, and two men got out and fired shots, hitting him in the back. Randle was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park in critical condition and pronounced dead at 1:35 p.m., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.

A 19-year-old man was shot in the right leg about 2:25 a.m. Sunday as he stood in an alley in the 1000 block of North Monticello Avenue in West Humboldt Park, Officer John Mirabelli, a Chicago Police spokesman said said. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital.

Further south, a man was shot in the leg about 2:50 a.m. near West 51st Street and South Central Avenue in Garfield Ridge, Mirabelli said. That victim was taken to an unknown hospital while a second person, whose age and gender were unknown, showed up at Holy Cross Hospital with an arm wound, Mirabelli said.

A 22-year-old man walked to Mount Sinai Hospital with a gunshot wound to the hand after a shooting near Cicero Avenue and Madison Street in Austin about 4:30 a.m. Sunday, Mirabelli said.

A man was found shot at a scene after reports of gunfire in the 5700 block of West Grand Avenue in Belmont Cragin about 5:10 a.m. Sunday, Mirabelli said. That victim is in stable condition, though it is unknown to which hospital he was sent.

Those shootings followed shootings citywide Friday night and early Saturday morning that tallied nine victims, including one shot by police. Three of those shot died.

A 17-year-old standing in an alley in the 900 block of West 95th Street in Brainerd was shot in his upper left chest about 9:15 p.m. Saturday, Mirabelli said.

In Chatham, Donte J. Kenney, 26, has been charged with aggravated assault of a police officer in connection with a Saturday morning shooting in which he was sent to Christ Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

About 1 a.m. Saturday, officers on patrol smelled marijuana and saw Kenney standing at the mouth of an alley in the 8500 block of South Rhodes Avenue, according to a police statement and Pat Camden, spokesman for the Fraternal Order of Police.

When the officers got out of their squad car to investigate, Kenney ran down the alley and into the backyard of a nearby residence. When the officers followed him into the backyard, he pointed a weapon in their direction, prompting one of the officers to shoot him, according to police.

Police recovered a gun at the scene, Camden said.

About two hours earlier, a man was shot and killed in South Chicago, authorities said, after fighting with another man.

The two began fighting outdoors in the 8700 block of South Burley Avenue at about 11:10 p.m. Friday, and the 34-year-old man was shot repeatedly in the chest, according to Officer Amina Greer, a police spokeswoman.

The slain man, later identified as Kevin Sanders, was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital where he was pronounced dead at midnight, according to the morgue.

The man who killed Sanders was shot in the leg during the altercation and was taken to Trinity Hospital, Greer said. He is in custody, Greer said.

Hours later, another man was shot to death in the Humboldt Park neighborhood, police said.

About 2:45 a.m. Saturday, a 19-year-old man was standing with two friends on a sidewalk in the 3300 block of West Beach Avenue when two men emerged from a nearby gangway and opened fire on the group, Greer said.

The 19-year-old, identified as Jonathan Santiago of the 900 block of North Homan Avenue, was shot in the chest and was found unresponsive on the scene when police arrived. Police have deemed a shooting a homicide, Greer said.

About the same time as the Humboldt Park shooting, three people were shot on the city's Northwest Side.

Two men and a woman were shot while in a car stopped at a red light in the 4200 block of West Irving Park Road. A light sedan pulled up next to them, a man got out and began firing, Greer said.

Miguel Cancel, 19, of the 5500 block of North Parkside Avenue, was shot in the head and the right shoulder and later died of his injuries at Stroger Hospital.

A 22-year-old man who was shot in both thighs was stable at Stroger Hospital as of early Saturday morning, Greer said.

The third person in the car, a 19-year-old woman, was shot in the right arm and taken to Norwegian American Hospital, where her condition stabilized, Greer said.

Police said two of the people shot are documented gang members, and the shooting appears to be gang-motivated.

Just before 3 a.m. Saturday, a man was shot in the 1600 block of North Humboldt Boulevard, police said. The man was shot in the lower left hip and taken to St. Mary Medical Center, according to Officer Michael Sullivan, a police spokesman.

Sullivan said the man's condition had stabilized early Saturday.

A 31-year-old man was in stable condition at Stroger Hospital after being shot in the back about 3:35 a.m. Saturday in Auburn Gresham. He was standing in the 8000 block of South Union Avenue when another man approached him and began firing shots, police spokeswoman Greer said.

At about 2 p.m. Friday afternoon, three people walked into the University of Chicago Hospital with gunshot wounds.

With the exception of Sanders' death, no one was in custody in connection with any of the shootings, police said.
