coincidentally, the incidence of poverty amongst blacks and latinos is 5 times as high as that of non black and latino in chicago as well,,,

economy and crime are part of a vicious circle that could stand a closer look,,,,,

Sigh!

I will repeat what I said elsewhere.

According to murder statistics compiled by the FBI, out of the 165,068 murders that took place in the USA between the years 2000 and 2010, 15,843 of the murders were committed by Hispanics, 49,936 by non-Hispanic Whites and 68,531 by African-Americans.

Now, compare those statistics to U.S. poverty statistics.

The University of Michigan’s National Poverty Center reports, “In 2010, 27.4 percent of blacks and 26.6 percent of Hispanics were poor, compared to 9.9 percent of non-Hispanic whites and 12.1 percent of Asians.”

If poverty were driving people to commit murder, then why is there a disproportionately-small number of murderers who are Hispanic, and why is there a disproportionately-large number of murderers who are non-Hispanic Whites?

The statistics do not show a correlation between the ethnicity of people who are in poverty and the ethnicity of people who commit murder.

I use murder as an example of a crime for which statistics exist.

Still, no link between poverty and crime has been proven.

As I see it, it is an insult to law-abiding poor people to imply that poverty produces crime.

Crime is (in general) the result of moral decay within the individual who commits a crime. Thus, the responsibility for the crime lies totally within the individual, not with any external circumstance.

So, why would anyone try to use poverty as an excuse for crime?

I can only speculate as to what the answer is.

goodness Dodo, I love ya but,,,,,

poverty is no more an 'excuse' for crime than cigarettes are an 'excuse' for lung cancer,,,these are FACTORS Which impact the likelihood of a certain income,,,,,

contributors are not 'excuses' , as not everyone will have the exact same COMBINATION Of contributors

another example, eating cake if you are an athlete who works out forty hours a week will probably not result in that much of a health issue

however eating CAKE if you are not an athlete, and dont eat a healthy diet, or have any exercise, may contribute significantly to a weight problem

being poor, if you have strong faith, a support network, confidence and strong conscious, probably will not result in desperation or crime

being poor, if you have not been exposed to such faith, have not had a network of support, and have not been instilled with confidence andconscious,, probably will be more LIKELY to result in the desperation or crime

there is a definite correlation between poverty and desperation, just repeating that moral decay is the reason, doesnt make it the ONLY Factor or the ONLY issue that can be addressed,,,,

democrats don't care, they just want to tell everyone what to do...
think all the gang members gave up any guns there?
now, the honest people are left at the mercy of gangsters and police...pretty close to one and the same....

honest people still have police working for them and are still able to own guns,,,,and now conceal and carry them too...

you really think that some random guy that is living in a gang infested neighborhood is going to pull out a concealed weapon and shoot at the gangbangers? please

the police are reactive and do little good.. plus it isn't like the police and the black community trust each other..

gang infested neighborhoods are another issue,,,I was refuting the idea that anyone is being 'left at the mercy' of anyone else by gun laws in Illinois

Chicago has their own laws that go beyond the state of Illinois. They are regarded as the strictest in the nation.

Yet, they lead the nation in murders.

Something is wrong in Chicago and communities are being left at the mercy of those with illegal firearms.

Strictest gun control.. Highest murder rate..

That doesn't jive..

Chicago may not have the highest murder rate in the USA. However, its strict gun-control laws definitely haven't prevented Chicago from having the high murder rate that it does have.

Chicago had the highest total number of murders in 2012 and since 2008 over 80% of the murdered that are 21 or younger are black or latino.

they make up 33% of the total population.

restricting lawful firearm purchases isn't Chicago's problem.. that is obvious..

thats is true, its only a band aid , there are bigger issues

coincidentally, the incidence of poverty amongst blacks and latinos is 5 times as high as that of non black and latino in chicago as well,,,

economy and crime are part of a vicious circle that could stand a closer look,,,,,

That is the point. You address the underlying causes of violence.

It seems rather pointless to keep heaping on new laws that do nothing but aggravate law abiding citizens while you ignore why that city had the most murders last year.

The numbers don't lie politicians do

You keep repeating that there is a correlation between poverty and crime, but you haven't cited any evidence to support that claim.

Anyway, the commission of a crime is a choice, no matter how poor one might be, and actual acts of desperation are rare exceptions, not the rule.

Just as long as they are killing liberals, who gives a rats a$$?

Liberals want gun confiscation, they will have to hold up their gun-free zone signs to protect them from, getting shot.

Egads! That there is a bad attitude. A person doesn't deserve to be killed because that person is a liberal.

Why?
They asked for and demanded the control.
They deserve what they asked for.
Fk 'em. Let the gang-bangers and other criminals eat 'em.

no kidding kiddo

obviously we cant change peoples minds as easily as we can their conditions and experiences

and , despite the theory of morals via osmosis,, our conditions and experiences do alot to mold our 'morals' as well as our reliaty

so morals play a large role in people committing CRIMES, yes

but that does nothing to refute that conditions such as poverty, environment, wealth, support systems,,, etc,,,,also contribute to the 'morals' that begin to mold us from a young age,,,,

Yet, there are poor people who do not choose to commit crimes, while there are people who aren't poor who do choose to commit crimes. So, the choice whether or not to commit a crime isn't determined by outward conditions. The choice to commit a crime is just that - a choice.

yes there are, there are many FACTORS Which contribute to any outcome

so there are poor people who have support networks, or some early faith instilled early on or some example or some network of support who make a choice based upon their reality ,, and there are poor people who have none of t hose things and who make choices based upon their experiences

it does nothing to just dismiss the different experiences that lead people to perceive the things they do and consider the options they consider, by just saying they must be immoral,,,,,

there are things we can do as a community to encourage and advocate for better ODDS for those who start off with so much more against them ,,,,,

just looking at those who make it in SPITE of and ignoring those who fall away as simply immoral is not the answer,,,,

The reality is hard for many to swallow.

Why blacks have high crime rates.

The factors are 70% genetic. Environment is only 30%.

Blacks commit homicide at 8 times the rate of whites.

This video is science, not racism.

I could post many videos showing how they raise their kids.

Disgusting and the Tax Payers are forced to keep them alive.

Law abiding citizens in Chicago need to revolt. No, wait. They can't They have to work to support the criminals.slaphead

since when is 149 8 times that of 42?

any mention of h ow many times more likely blacks are to be in impoverished environments?

the video is not science its sloppy statistics used to prove a bias,,,,there is nothing 'genetic' about the disparity or we wouldnt see it taper off as the income and wealth levels increased

Poor, impoverished, oppressed, etc., etc., etc.

Always excusing and justifying criminal, ghetto behavior.

There are many honorable, hard working negros that, if they saw how excuses were puked out, would wretch at the ghetto, gibmedat attitude.

Disgusting. According to some, the criminal has no choice but to kill, rob rape and maim. Pure nonsense.
