Hello ladies i need your help. i met my gf here on mingle2 and she lives in Basilan and i am moving to Davao. She told me I cannot go there to Basilan to meet her because it's not safe for a white guy there. That I may be kidnapped and beheaded by you know who. Lord knows I dont want to die my first week of living in the Philippines,yes i am moving there to live. My question is is there a less expensive way for her to travel other than a plane? A bus? A boat? any information and suggestions you can give me would be GREATLY appreciated.

My stepson met a girl and moved to the Philippines...He really likes it but I don't have much info about where he lives.. He's not in touch with family much...sorry I can't help you..

I have no real experience or information about that, but just thinking logically: hitch-hiking would be the cheapest possibility, I guess, but probably also the most dangerous. Bus, boat are possibly cheaper but longer....I'm sorry, I can't be of more help....

I agree to what your girlfriend tells you. Shes from basilan right. It will be a boat or a bus. No plane,, you are both from mindanao but her place is really dangerous to tourist. It is a muslim territory. I guess shes not a scammer. She only wants your safety. Goodluck.

when you are in your country and moving here in philippines you need to ride at the plane.. thats the only way .. Basilan and davao you need to a buz ... Two places in mindanao where the npa,abu sayyaf,milf are there..(mindanao) im afraid to live in mindanao .. a lot of terrorist,war and many innocent were killed.. Manila or other places eccept from a land of mindanao you must choose .. Your gf know it

You are not from here. I cant blame you. I only thought that a scammer will only get her or his way without telling precautions. Haven't you heard of tourist been kidnapped or worst been killed. Not to down our tourism here. I love it here i suggest those who want to visit our country should take extra precautions.. Though not all part in mindanao is dangerous. Davao and many more places are safe but i cant assure 100% safety in all places.

Hello Mark, I am from Mindanao. Winlei and your girlfriend were right about security issues in Basilan. It's not safe there for foreigners. A no-no zone for tourists. It's a part of the Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao. Did she give you proof that she really lives there? Is she really sure she wants to meet you? I hope the answer is yes.
Basilan is an island, so the most preferred mode of transport is by a ferry to get her to a bigger city, and from there she can ride a bus and transfer to a barge/ ferry til she gets to Iligan City and another bus ride to Cagayan de Oro. And from CdeO to Davao City. I think it will take her days to get to Davao. The total travel expenses will be as expensive as flying, plus motion sickness stress and ample time consumption. So in my raw opinion, better to get her on a plane. It's faster and safer especially for first time travelers. The problem is, I have no idea about airports from there.
