Historically, in the more rural parts of Christendom where there might not necessarily be clergy always on hand to perform marriage ceremonies it used to be entirely acceptable and common for a peasant couple to marry not by first standing up in a church together but by presenting the marriage as a foregone fact -- by cohabitating and producing a child. That child served as proof that the marriage had been consummated, and the couple living together served as proof of their commitment to becoming one. Any religious blessing bestowed at that point functioned as a simple acknowledgement of the fact of their existing marriage.

Also, I doubt the Christian God would care all that much about the LEGAL ceremonials... at most it would be a matter of a religious ceremony, and in regard to that subject, refer to the above...

I cannot speak on behalf of anyone else because the scriptures are a means of teaching us how we are supposed to act and be, not to show others how they should act and be. When you try to use the scriptures to judge the actions of other people, you turn religion into a form of fascism. As for myself, I have had enough BS from girls and have decided that I will not have sex until I get married. In hopes that God will provide me with someone who is capable of abstaining from sex with me, as well as being physically appealing to me I have decided to abstain from masturbation as well. Even though I do not masturbate I still find myself imagining situations that could happen after I get married. I am 29 and have raging hormones and high amounts of testosterone due to my exercise endeavors, so my take on it is that Christ had to die for us because we were designed to sin. If I can restrain myself from physically acting on my thoughts, then Christ will forgive me for my thoughts, even though I technically shouldn't allow myself to entertain such thoughts.

As a side note, any girls out there with a slightly above average look want to free me from this misery, Hi, I'm Christopher... LOL

Gud damn it !!!...I was thinking about giving this post a thumbs up until I read that very shallow, unchristian sounding last sentence...And can you be a little more specific, what does a "slightly above average look" look like?....Thanks and gud bless!

That's a great line and a great excuse to ward off some of these pushy loose slutty young women who will jump into bed and get pregnant with anyone who gives them a little attention. It might work.

 laugh

P.S. FYI women have been using that one for years. (not until we are married...)

Well it is a great line. The women would probably come out of the woodworks to try their hand and getting him to break down and have sex with them. (And it could just be a line to get laid.)

Afterwards he could tell them he can't see them again because they tempted him to go go against his religious vows.

It wasn't unChristian, I am looking for someone who I can marry one day and not feel pressured to have sex before that. Just because I want someone who is slightly above average is not a bad thing; average is somebody with average body type, average looks, average intelligence. We are taught in the Bible to marry someone that we are equally yoked with and I am an academic/fit/monogamous soul, which makes me slightly above average.

And it is not a line, I did break down with one girl I met on POF. When I told her that I didn't want to have sex until marriage, she told me that she didn't think she could develop feelings for a guy she isn't intimate with; long story short she got me into the sack, but that was the last time I am having sex outside of marriage, period. I have even took some measures to secure that I am not going to fall into these seductress's traps.

Well I think you are sincere and determined.

My suggestion is that you should be true to yourself.

well, Id say, if a man takes and clings to one woman, or one woman to one man,, with or without a ceremony or papers,, if their intent and promise to God is to be bound together,, those two having sex is not a sin,,,

the vow before God , imho, makes them husband and wife before God

if they have sex BEFORE The include God in such a vow,, its a sin

huh msharmony, I find nothing in the Bible to support what you said. It appears to me that you are making an excuse for two people having sex with each other without becoming legally married. It is as if you are redefining marriage in order to satisfy one's desire for sex.

read more closely dodo

did God tell adam and eve to sin when he said be fruitful? do you suppose they had a government document to validate their marriage before God? or a traditional ceremony?

or was their 'marriage' a marriage because HE brought them together in commitment to each other and to him?

just as much as I believe Christianity doesn't require a traditional ceremony, but is about the PERSONAL relation with God

I also believe marriage is about a couples personal relation with God,, I believe, biblically, people BECOME ONE, the moment they first have sex,,they become in the spiritual sense husband and wife with the instruction to become one,,,

another example, Jacob lying with LEah made her his wife,, he had no intent, no legal document, no ceremony to declare she was his wife, his action in lying with her MADE HER HIS WIFE,,,

there is nothing specific to either refute or specifically reaffirm my position,, except that I believe Adam and Eve were just as much husband and wife as anyone since who has had legal documents or ceremonies,,,,as were leah and Jacob, without participating together in ANY legal contract or ceremony,, but just by nature of Gods covenant once they laid together,,,

Yep. And without an official licence, there is common law which is just as legal and binding.

Can you explain why this makes masturbation a sin?

It doesn't. That was his point. I was the one who brought up masturbation and what the Catholic Church teaches. Non-Catholic Christians do not agree with this.

Lots of thoughts on this. If you masturbate you are a masterbater?

I think it does but are all masturbators sinners?

What do you think.

During High School me and my friend Steve got jobs on the local golf course.

I mowed but Steve he got a Job at the Lake.

See their the members liked to fish but did not like to bate the hook.

At the end of summer they gave all of us certificates of achievement for school.

I got a certificate for Master Lawnboy and Steve.

well He became a Certified MasterBater Now who's sinning out their..laugh

The bible "teaches" many things...

John 7:24 "Do not judge by appearances, but judge with right judgement."

Matthew 7:1-2 "Judge not, that you not be judged. For with the judgement you pronounce you will be judged, and with the MEASURE YOU USE it will be measured to you."

I believe this goes along topic lines but I never see it brought up and I believe it is a serious one among believers at least and others.

Oral Sex. Is it a sin? I believe it is.

Cor 7
3The husband must fulfill his duty to his wife, and likewise also the wife to her husband. 4The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does; and likewise also the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. 5Stop depriving one another, except by agreement for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer, and come together again so that Satan will not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.…

my personal belief is that the sexual organs of the bodies are to be used for sex between spouses

that would include kissing, that would include touching, that would even include (in my opinion) , ORAL sex,,,,as a means of stimulating ones partner,,,
