I wonder why so many people are so uptight about getting off site to talk? I get not wanting to tell really personal stuff but not like a little conversation is telling state secrets. Any ideas besides the obvious scammers?

Anything off site is out of Mingles jurisdiction so we can't take action here

Plus hackers can hack your emails orsend viruses etc

Well this site doesn't let me know when I've received mails or an answer on the forums i just find it easier to check my emails than go through the site sometimes.

I don't mind if we've been talking for a while and it's comfortable, but it's creepy when it's right away. I just got a friend request (on my actual friend's page for some weird reason, not in the mail notification section where it usually is, maybe this is a new feature) and the guy gave ALL his personal info, as if I'd want to contact him.....scared

usually these that ask in the first few messages for a messenger ID right away are scammers. Some are building email lists for spam...spammers. Some are looking to get you to make illegal bank deposits etc, or as YR said, worse, they are simply evil transmitting viruses via email to people's computers....just malicious. Don;t go off site. That's my advice. not unless you are 100% confident abobut the other person.

One way to look at it is that there nothing that can't be emailed or chatted here on mingle. so there is no real need to go offsite. (you can even upload additional photos on here to your profile. even tho it is not as convenient as sending them on messenger, it can be done). If he/she tries to convince you that it is a "need, to go off the site" than that request is a scam.

I would think every legit person would want that protection for at least a while but I guess people do not have a clue how much info you can find out about a person with a phone number; even a cell number.

Still a lot of people seem determined to go some where; often Yahoo which is terrible for scammers and viruses.

Been talking to this guy for a week now,his emails are like 6-10lines and less(in response to a detailed one)!!

Then today I get email asking if he'd take me off mingle to yahoo-that that's where he goes mostly"to check for emergency meetings and notifications"-since he's an "army"guy in Afghan, but home is Highlands,NY!!

I laughed soooo hard!
Stupid guy! Does the army use yahoo to notify Captains of emergencies or urgent meetings?!! Comeooooon!!

I go with my instinct when dealing with people on here, and hasn't failed me yet! My instinct is my best vetor!!

It would take me awhile to go off site. I would have to be 100 percent sure of the persons integrity. I have come across this so many times on mingle chat they strike up conversation then say can we go to yahoo to chat more I mean hey aren't we talking now. I even had someone say give me your facebook page after just a few sentences I mean do you think I'm give you my pin number or something LOL

A lot of people don't want to spend a long time emailing back and forth and want to meet quickly. So, that's probably a reason why.

Would you believe I've never used it? I've heard so many people talk about how great it is, how some people even give various lessons etc via Skype, but I don't even know how it works. I think it has something to do with a camera... that's it. haha. Old before my time. I can't even work the tin opener at work! That's how crappy I am with 'technology'.

Skype is actually pretty cool and it is free all over the USA and minimal in many other countries. Google Skype the set up is super easy. I would not even consider meeting anyone who I had not actually seen/seen me first on Skype or some similar site.

But not like I am giving someone I am not interested in my Skype address.

I definitely make sure I keep my camera eye on my social computer covered just in case someone would hack my account. A very good reason for keeping your computer in an area of your home that does not show what you would not want seen on international TV. And not putting any confidential personal business on the same.

Those inbuilt cameras really freak me out. I have to repeatedly remind myself that it's not connected to anything (that I know of), but I still worry. I've always kept it covered or the lens obscured just in case though.
