This works for me because I don't lay aside my morals....

when i said lay aside morals , i just meant that it's not the topic of our discussion , we are not valuing the moral side of the issue , i didn't mean that women should lay aside their morals to be equal with men .

In the military, fire rescue and police jobs every one is obedient at some point. It keeps you safe, keeps the team in order and makes the individuals and team stronger. BTW...I totally understand and respect why others would choose not to take that vow.

in the military , or in any similar establishment , obedience is based on differences in professionality and success in one's career , it's not and shouldn't be based on sexual , ethnic or religious bases .... that what keeps order and unity .

Agreed on both quotes. You are a wise man.

You know what I am not in the military, I'm not a fire fighter or police officer. I view myself as a strong woman. I stand up for women's rights. I have managed both men and women in my career more than 50 employees. At one time I worked a full time job, a part time job and attended school full time. Now I work full time as a manager. I work a side job from my home. I run my household. Keep a clean and safe home. I raise my children. Without the help from any man. Ive made mistakes in life and struggled. I am a survivor of abuse. I've been knocked down by men... I always get up. With that being said I still don't have a problem vowing to obey my husband if I ever get married. This works for me because I don't lay aside my morals.... I don't think that makes me a weak woman who is brain washed, not confident and dependent. Also just because you acknowledge someone as an authority figure and vow to obey doesn't mean you don't collaborate with that person. In the military, fire rescue and police jobs every one is obedient at some point. It keeps you safe, keeps the team in order and makes the individuals and team stronger. BTW...I totally understand and respect why others would choose not to take that vow.

The point I was trying to make is the jobs I mentioned; you are in life threatening situations and if you make a mistake; someone will die. I don't think as manager; you are in life threatening situations daily where as fire; police, and military are. I have seen men make very bad decisions so I would not obey but would discuss. I watched my dad make decisions for our family as "Head of the House". Guess what; he made such bad decisions that we went hungry, had no money for us for bus fare making us walk a mile in -40 below weather. He thought to give whatever money away to the church leaving us suffer but my mom has no say as she obeyed him. I had a boyfriend that said I must go to bed at 10:00 pm and told him where to stuff it. You think I am going to obey him? Sorry; I have intelligence and an education. I have spent my life making life and death situations so I won't blindy obey a man or a woman for that fact. I know my friend would never make any decision for his family without consulting his wife. She has a say in all their decisions but I guess that is why their marriage is 28 years strong.

Never said I would blindly obey anyone. I am an educated woman. Just because I didn't choose a career that puts me in harms way every day doesn't mean I'm less for woman's rights than those who do. I say a prayer for each and everyone of those men and women. That said don't dare think that I won't fight to defend my family, my country and defend good. Because this WOMAN has and will! I just didnt make a career out of it. I am a strong independent woman who Is not brain washed and I'm not a doormat. Again....If I ever find a man who wants to marry me and shares my beliefs and values and makes vows to me. I don't have a problem vowing to obey him. ... And again I understand why others would choose differently. People do horrible things to each other and so yeah its risky putting faith in someone. Ahhhhhhhhh!!!! Anyways! Beautiful pic Navygirl.

So, from what I read here; saying "obey" in a marriage vow means nothing. I conclude that a woman will obey until it doesn't suit her; like when hubby makes a decision that will endanger her life, or her kids for example; then she will disobey him which in essence makes that marriage vow worthless. I will also add having served in the military; I did disobey orders on more than one occassion. Being in a leadership role; I am responsible for the saftey of those under my command and I would put their safety first. In one incident that I did disobey orders as it would have possible killed or injure 6 people; I found afterwards that I was being tested. Had I obeyed the order; I would have been removed from command. I would think this kind of training also stands within in the police and fire departments as they also have a military structured type of training so they would also on occassion disobey orders.

if you were getting married now to the man you love would you choose to say the traditional vows. if you said yes to the first question would you live by those vows for the rest of your life. would you for the rest of your life honour, respect and obey your husband.

if our vows are biblical in nature,,,with the biblical BALANCE that requires us both to be obedient to God whose book instructs the husband to be as Jesus was to the church,,,,then yes, so long as the husband is being true to his vows

if its a husband who feels he can reign with intimidation and inconsideration(which are NOT Traits Jesus had),than no

in todays climate, I think its as hard to find a man who understands that part of the Christian value as it is to find a woman who will 'obey' him,,,,,

Ephesians 5:28 husbands ought also to love their own wives as their own bodies. He who loves his own wife loves himself; 29for no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ also does the church,…

Wait a minute, wasn't it a woman's prerogative to make her man to sleep on the couch?.. And hold out on sex?
And now men CHOOSE to sleep on the couch??!!! ... AND hold out on sex?!! .. that's like messing with the laws of physics ...
I'm thinking .. chopping up the settee ... buy a small 2 seater ... laugh
