MLK would have GREAT respect for what Obama has done IN SPITE Of the obstacles and resistance (things very familiar to MLK) he faces,,,

MLK would even have respect for Sharpton, and what he has done by being a voice that can bring certain otherwise 'non mainstream' issues to the mainstream

And you know that for a fact.. that MLK Jr. would have respect for Sharpton?

I'm really starting to believe that all the colors in you Crayola box... are black

I have no idea what that means, does believing he would slap Sharpton lead you to believe none of the crayons in one's crayon box are black?

lol

but anyway, MLK has been long dead so hopefully it is understood that no one can KNOW what MLK would think,, all posts pertaining to the subject are obviously opinions

Yes you do.. It mean's that you see the world in one color.. black. and you have one agenda..black

and this is not the first time you have heard this. You have heard it in different variations from many many posters

and I have also heard in many variations that my posts are well thought out ,,, and?

I have many people in my life of all races whom I love,, but race is a REAL And SIGNIFICANT factor in the very CORE of Americas existence,, I am far from seeing the world in only one color

I see AMERICA in its HISTORY of racial context,, t here is a HUGE Difference

my 'agenda' here is posting my opinions in RESPONSE to those posted by others,,,, but many only SEE those I post having to do with race,,, go figure,,,

Would Martin Luther King, Jr. have any respect for what Obama has done to race relations in this country?

I think not. Glad he's not alive to see this......

Nope, and here is a fun fact. MLK Jr. was a Republican.

before Republicans became largely southern

Is that all black people want? Is equal rights? Because they have that, and race relations are the poorest they have ever been in this country. Obama had the chance to really unite our country as the first black president. Sadly, he has divided it even more.

How can you respect what he has done? I don't even understand?

flowerforyou

Her logic there are two reasons. First and foremost he is a Democrat, the second is his skin color. She's the biggest Fuhrer cheerleader I have ever seen,

no, I really dont care what political party people have,, t hats other peoples hangups,,, has little to do with the INDIVIDUAL because there is so much diverseity within every party

and my logic has to do with just what I posted,, because of Americas history of a succession of white males as head of state, his very ELECTION was both historical and his presence the cause of much angst and objection (Change often comes with those attached)

and in spite of that angst and objection by so many who didnt really believe the status quo could/should be changed(not to be confused with those on the fence wanting to believe it could)

he still came in with an economy on a QUICK decline, unemployment growing, jobs not being added, a terrorist at large,,etc,,

and in spite of that angst and objection,, all these things have been turned back around

thats the reason I respect him and feel MLK would too

And that's fine. You have your views, I have mine. That is what forums are all about. Agreeing to disagree.

And it is clear that you are a supporter of Sharpton ( which is well documented) as I am not a supporter of Al Sharpton ( also well documented).. also fine. ( agree to disagree)

But I have asked you (point blank) on multiple occasions about your views on Sharpton's tax issues. And I have yet to receive a response( if you did and I did not see it, I apologize)

Sharpton is current $4.3 million in arrays of his taxes, ( business and personal) spanning multiple years. To include none payment of payroll tax and other normal taxes that all of us must pay. He has also been taken to court by many entities for none payment of services. To include the Peabody hotel in Tn. for over $100K and a minority owed non profit organization in Wash. D.C for failure to pay rent for sub leased office space and furniture... just to name a few.

So I ask you one more time:

Is that acceptable behavior of a leader. to not pay your taxes? to stiff people?

Does that not throw into question the moral character of the man and send the wrong message to the people he claims to speak for?

Is that the mark of a role model to any community?

One year.. I could accept.. going on 4 years of non payments...that's a tax cheat and deadbeat.

but you claim that (in your opinion) MLK Jr would be proud of Sharpton... Really?

???

I don't 'support' Sharpton, I agree with him sometimes and sometimes I don't, I 'support' his right to have a voice and use it, especially for people who may otherwise never get heard

I am not an accountant or the IRS , so I don't know Sharptons tax issues

he SHOULD pay his taxes,, beyond that I don't feel one way or another because I don't know his finances,,,

I don't know if tax problems have anything to do with morals,, Im not in his pocketbook to know the CONTEXT of how these debts occurred(intentionally or unintentionally)

HE has both business and personal tax and I know those things get confusing when it comes time to figure out what's owed,,,

I also don't know how accurate the numbers are or where and when they are from, let alone whether he has made arrangements to pay them down

and MLK would realize no one is perfect, Like I do

he would respect his WORK in civil rights, that doesn't mean he has to approve of EVERYTHING about his life

You are right, no one is perfect. We all make mistakes and learn from them. You learn not to repeat them

Not paying your taxes and stiffing business contacts for years is not a one time mistake.. it is a mind set.. a character flaw.

You don't have look far to find out about his tax problems and info on the entities that have sued him for non payment of services. not far at all.. as there is volumes of it available. From most every media source available. And I am sure you have researched it already. ( because you reached most everything else)

And as you stated earlier in the post ( that of course you do not know what a dead person who actually say or think) so you are surmising ( of course) that MLK Jr. would respect Sharpton.. in any way shape or form

But that is your opinion, which you have the right to state

Mine is that (In my opinion) a true leader such as MLK Jr. would have no respect for such a person as Sharpton. I think MLK Jr. would see right thru Sharpton.

I have researched it , I find no source that I have ever heard of (plenty of anonymous and random pages as anyone can post anything and almost anyone can have and post on a website)

working in Finance, I know that taxes are complicated and easy to foul up,, without it being intentional, especially if someone has taxes from both personal earned income and business entities

I also know the interest that can accrue can add quite a bit to that total

what I don't know is under what circumstances (intentional or not) and what Sharpton has done/ is doing to fix it

I don't believe that MLK would disregard someone's accomplishments, or judge their 'character' by their tax status,,,

I am pretty convinced that MLK would hang his head in shame over the black leaders in our country. Bet he'd have a lot of respect for Dr. Ben Carson, tho. Interesting, intelligent black man with common sense. Just like MLK. You gotta love that.

Im curioius if you could list , lets say, 5 of the 'black leaders' you feel MLK would be ashamed of

or 5 black leaders, period,,,

and explain how they are 'black leaders',,,,as opposed to black people the press chooses to cover,,,,

I admire Carsons intelligence,

I love intelligent and 'interesting' men, black white and other

and they aren't rare at all

none of those things though, have any reason to affect the ability to respect Sharptons work in civil rights

Sharpton himself is intelligent and 'interesting'

I believe MLK, like me, could see things in both men to respect and admire,,,

Barack Obama, Al Sharpton, Reverend Wright, Charlie Rangel, John Lewis.....

lol..ok

well Obama is president, I give you that, I think MLK would be proud of him

Sharpton is a commentator and activist and not a 'leader'

Charlie Rangel is an old politician, there are plenty of them,, that aren't 'leaders' and have only a single vote amongst hundreds

Reverend Wright is a leader for HIS congregation,, and he is black
this is like saying Jay Z is a black leader, because he is leading in the music industry,,lol,, but he really isn't,, he is just a musician who is successful, as Reverend is a pastor who got a soundbyte for saying something controversial in a sermon

John Lewis, another politican,,,,doesn't automatically make him a 'leader'

but, at least you named five 'hi profile' black men,, good job...
