Martin Luther King III recently denounced the riots and violent protests that have been in the headlines for months.

My father's approach to the most brutal and unambiguous social injustices during the civil rights struggle was rooted in nonviolence as a morally and tactically correct response, said King in a Washington Times interview.

In no way do I, nor would my father, condone any ends justify the means behavior.

One of the people responsible for the hateful vandalism told the Washington Times that he was inspired by “the black leaders in Ferguson, and that he believed violent methods could be used because the ends justified the means.

Martin Luther King III also criticized people such as Al Sharpton who abuse their positions of leadership for self-serving purposes.

Many feel that in todays climate some of those in authority are exercising, in effect, a self-serving, ends justify the means mindset as well, and that, in turn, empowers them to do the same, said King.

The sad reality is that much of what Martin Luther King Jr. worked for and died for has been torn down by those self-serving individuals.

Al Sharpton is the epitome of the people Martin Luther King III criticized people who exploit his father’s legacy with the goal of nothing more than gaining more money, prestige, and power. These people dont care about civil rights or the welfare of the black community; they care only about themselves and their own agenda.

The problem is certain people, such as Al Sharpton, will always do anything they can to make sure the Dream does not become a reality for their own personal gain. Sharpton doesn't care about the facts, and he certainly doesn't care about those he proclaims to help. Tawana Brawley, Freddie's Fashion Mart, Crown Heights, Duke University, Ferguson. Need I go on? He was wrong every time, but he still shows up for the shakedown regardless of the truth.

Some people will overlook the controversies pertaining to Tawana Brawley, Freddie's Fashion Mart, Crown Heights and Duke University because Al Sharpton is one of them, a liberal Democrat.

Some people will overlook the controversies pertaining to Tawana Brawley, Freddie's Fashion Mart, Crown Heights and Duke University because Al Sharpton is one of them, a liberal Democrat.

how long ago was the most recent occasion of Sharpton being 'wrong'

He wasnt wrong on Ferguson and addressing unnecessary killing of citizens, the treatment of citizens by those in authority, and the accountability of authority to its citizens.

so, can we get some RECENT history to complain about,, please?

if not, can we allow people the reality of growth and knowledge and aknowledge what they have done LATELY,,?,,,,(meaning sooner than a decade or TWO decades ago)

He was wrong about Ferguson. Mike Brown was not killed because of his race. He was killed because he attacked a police officer who acted in self defense. It makes no sense, if you want to live, to go after someone's gun, especially if that person is a police officer. And we cannot simply ignore that Sharpton has a long history of stirring things up for his own personal reasons, and not because he cares about what he claims is the issue. To him the only issue is his own relevance.

there is no way to prove why he was killed, there is every historical reason to SUSPECT Race could play a part

but whatever the reason,, the fact remained about how poorly they handled it and how poorly the officer responded,,,,

we cannot ignore his history but we cannot ignore what he has done in his more RECENT history either,,,,

I place more relevance on an individuals more recent history, because I try to account for peoples ability to live and learn,,,

I didnt overlook anything ,, I pointed out my difference of opinion about how much RELEVANCE it should have compared to more RECENT history

imagine if we only ever defined people by what they have done decades ago,, what would be the point of turning anything in our lives around?

If Al Sharpton were to truly turn his life around, the he'd admit that he was wrong about Tawana Brawley, Freddie's Fashion Mart, Crown Heights and Duke University.

and so is his repayment plan

and irrelevant as well

how many here have his net worth or run as many different organizations and businesses?

taxes can get missed,,,,but that has nothing to do with his work in civil rights,,,

This thread is about Al's works in civil wrongs, because of all the people he has wronged.
Also, Al hasn't simply missed his taxes. His tax evasion has been cumulative.
