Should the term 'no excuse' be used as often as it is?

I am thinking that each situation can vary in just one detail that may make whats acceptable vary as well

...particularly, (maybe because I have all brothers) , why do we have the belief that there is 'no excuse' for a man to hit a woman

if it is indeed a HUMAN reflex to fight or flight, how does following that natural reflex change based upon gender?

now, Im not talking about a woman pushes you and you beat her to a pulp,, but the point is , I don't agree that someone pushing you warrants beating them to a pulp , regardless of gender

...most of the time

now, If I am driving a car and someone is pushing and trying to cause a crash,, Im going to use what force is necessary to stop that assault

,,,,another example

,,there is 'no excuse' to steal

really? so if you are stranded in a natural disaster and surrounded by insured resources that are going to be destroyed by the disaster eventually,,,,,you should starve instead of taking food, or freeze instead of seeking shelter that isn't yours?

,,,,,why do we have the all or nothing type of mentality that creates phrases like 'no excuse'?

end of rant,,,flowerforyou

Normally when others say there is no excuse for the situation it is due to normal everyday occurrences.. Anytime you are in survival mode you will do what ever it takes to get there..

If they go out and steal just to steal then no there is no excuse..

If a man/woman hits another man/woman regardless of the sex violence is never a answer. But if you feel threaten and fighting for your life, then you have to do what you have to in order to get away.. There is never excuses for those that beat the other just cause they can...

My self I have never been in one of these situations and hope that I'm never in one....

((Kristi))flowerforyou ...Well said...

Since the phrase "no excuse" is not a blanket response to every action or non action, it should be pretty easy for most people to determine when it applies and when it does not .. :-)

I think that term is for manipulators excuses that can not see their own guilt. Just a nice way of saying, "you're full of it."

here is kind of a cool article about reason and excuse and other dichotomies,,,,

it relates mostly to INDIVDIDUALS behaviors in business but its still interesting

https://corporatecoachgroup.com/blog/reason-vs-excuse

examples from the article include:

Reason: Logical, factual, verifiable, a one-off event, unavoidable, and commensurate

Excuse: False (a lie) Illogical, un-verifiable, multiple use of the same old story, inconsistent, avoidable, foreseeable, disproportionate.

it's a matter of holding one's selfaaccountable for our actions.
some people do things on a regular basis which they explain away by being in an altered state of mind. whether it's fear or something equally highly emotional. chemically induced. etc.
if it were an isolated incident, perhaps it might be excusable. when it becomes a pattern, it needs to be addressed and not excused
