I'd like to know if there was any response from the other side as the other pilot was trying to get back in.

Are these doors locked automatically upon leaving the cock-pit ?

Why wasn't a stewardess, as is supposed to be, to take the place of a vacant pilot ?

they always lock, since 911, but why didn't the captain have a key?

maybe he lost or misplaced it, or maybe he just panicked and didnt think about it,,,or maybe it was still in the cockpit

Best question of all...

What kind of privacy partition is locked from the plane's own staff ?

(Where The Hell Is The Contingency In That ?)

even if there was another person in the cockpit it most likely would not have prevented the captain from taking the plane down

The same thing happened over N.Y. a few years ago. ( I think it was Egypt Airlines). The captain took it up to about 25k feet then nosed dived it into the ocean. Killing everyone

On the recorder, the co pilot was heard trying to do everything possible to prevent it from happening and to take control of the plane.. but he couldn't stop it.

People snap.. as this guy apparently did.

I do not know what the defense it to that as many show no forewarning

EgyptAir Flight 990 (MS990/MSR990) was a regularly scheduled flight from Los Angeles International Airport, United States, to Cairo International Airport, Egypt, with a stop at John F. Kennedy International Airport, New York City. On 31 October 1999, the Boeing 767-300ER operating the route crashed into the Atlantic Ocean about 60 miles (100 km) south of Nantucket Island, Massachusetts, killing all 217 people on board.[1] The cause of the crash was deliberate action by the relief first officer.

Extract from BBC NEWS :-

After 9/11, changes were made to the security of cockpits in an effort to make hijackings more difficult. According to the US Federal Aviation Authority, doors should typically be tough enough to withstand a grenade blast. They are usually left locked throughout the flight.

Cockpit security systems are supposed to allow a pilot the ability to access the cockpit. But access can be deliberately denied from within the cockpit.

There is also the question of how many people must be in the cockpit at any one time. Flight attendant Heather Poole tweeted: "In the US a flight attendant always goes into the cockpit whenever a pilot takes a break/leaves."

so tragic

first thought is that its reation to loss,, lost relationship or job or something else

loss is the end of the world for many,, no coping skills to move on and build upon whats positive,,,

very tragic,,,

It does look as though the co-pilot new he could loose his flying career through mental illness, you are right regarding a possible cause, although no suicide note has yet been discovered.

Information regarding the co-pilots health is coming to light from police sources, that he was hiding from his employers his mental illness. He was in fact signed off work sick, but failed to notify his employer and went to work as normal.

Terrorism has not been ruled out! Investigators have made new discoveries which they refused to disclose. The religion he converted to during and after training is certainly a factor to consider

The key is a number punched into a numberpad. The pilot inside the cockpit can override any keypad entries with an electric deadbolt.

[The Next Day]

Well, apparently this co-pilot was definitely lucid when he chose to do what he did.

***************************************************************************************************************

I'm sad to say one of the biggest anxieties of people who don't want to live anymore is that often they express that they don't want to die alone.

This is not that uncommon...

Even War Veterans have expressed that the very idea of dying in the company of other fellow solders made the prospect of going into action more tolerable.
