I just crazy glued a section of radiator hose around the end of my circumcised unit to see what uncircumcised is like...have to say I like it! I could get used to this...

Does it seem foreign to you? Not that you ever missed it or anything...

no...more like i'm accessorizing...it's like bling!

Bling!? laugh Prince Albert? love

You're not supposed to have hitch hikers.

I think i'm keeping this...gonna try it out on the locals, see how it handles...lol

I noted in Crystal's article that circumcision is called penile reduction surgery....I wonder if circumcision contributes to the "crooked" ones that are out there? Being that maybe too much of the skin was removed? I've seen scaring well below the top of the shaft down to the middle on some.

and Pansy....you say that this procedure is performed on 13 year olds in your country? Do they complain of pain, compared to a baby who will not remember?

aww... teal, you put me on the spot here... lol.. no worries, i enjoy the occasional mental exercise...

penile reduction is different from circumcision... way, way different...

you'll have to qualify your term "crooked"... some people can have a curvature to their penis, which is a "normal" deviance... or some can have previous trauma (ie. penile fracture) causing the curvature, but this is usually in adults
...there are children born with hypospadia and epispadia that can cause the crookedness... and is actually a contraindication to circumcision... the abnormality would have to be corrected...

like any procedure, it is dependent on the skill of the performing practitioner...
a badly done circumcision can cause complications leading to a malformed penis during the healing process...

i feel that there are a lot of misconceptions regarding this delicate procedure...as always, any procedure, for treatment, prevention or diagnosis should weigh the pros and cons, the risks and benefits...before making an informed consent, whether for oneself or for another individual...

i saw a couple of reputable and comprehensive publications explaining these issues... they explain in terms of the global practice of circumcision, effects, indications, risks, techniques etc...

for sexual effects, it explains it in terms of male health, female health and child health, STD/HIV spread (hetero and homo) etc... and as far as research goes into sensation, mixed reviews have been found... some say less effect, some say no effect, some say increased effect...

http://www.who.int/hiv/pub/malecircumcision/neonatal_child_MC_UNAIDS.pdf

http://www.cdc.gov/hiv/pdf/prevention_research_malecircumcision.pdf

hope this is helpful and can dispel wrong ideas...

as far as pain is concerned... anesthesia is used if done by a medical practitioner, the choice of whether it is local or general is mostly dependent on patient and parental apprehension and cost. pain relievers and antibiotic prophylaxis is given after. but we would assume that there will always be the presence of discomfort, of course.

the ones i've heard of done in rural areas by traditional healers... well... i suppose this needs no expounding on... but the parody i posted previously pretty much sums it up... lol...funny to watch, this guy >> http://youtu.be/MegtR8uKDeU

my godson needed it. the foreskin was malformed. the opening was to small to allow it to be rolled back so cleaning was extremely problematic. hence the health reasons.

eric, yes, phimosis can be a medical indication for the procedure, if causing problems such as infection, or if there is already scar tissue. but normally secretions trapped can cause a kind of "stickiness" that can make it difficult and painful to pull the foreskin back in young children, but it tends to resolve over time.

thanks for the extra info tilly.

Very helpful, and informative pansy. There is an afternoon of reading ahead.

On another note, I am satisfied that I had made the decision for my son. He developed Type I diabetes also at the age of 9. Being that the keytones get off occasionally, and UTI's can occur, he never had a UTI. I just prayed that the doctor was experienced with his little scalpel.

all the best for your child flowerforyou ...and lemme guess... he probably doesn't miss it.. lol...

i've heard of some not having to use a scalpel... not quite sure, but it involves an absorbable material used to roll the foreskin up, and eventually healing that way ohwell

Yes, it wasn't actually a scalpel that he used. He explained it at the time. He did say, it depended on how much skin was gathered then "shaved" off... I remember being worried about his "skill", when the doctor made a shrugging motion.

yup.. ya kinda just stretch it forward and "shave it off"... lol... and it's not too bloody cause it's not that vascularized at that age... lol... especially not compared to adolescents... and their ...um... hormonal changes... lol...

so its a health issue.
and i should take to the scalpel because i can not take care of myself, get checked every month, and control where i put my foreskin becauise i think with the small head instead of the big.

nah.
too smart for that, sorry.
I was born this way, and i shall die thuis way.
if the foreskin had no oppositive purpose, nature would not have given me one. simplez.

Finally a man with brains ..

And sure if it was decided for you men here when you were a kid, and have been brainwashed by your society ... You can't really help it, nor would you know what it would be like to be intact.

The health talk is total BS. If that were true all intact men would have a knob that was infected, total nonsense. Humans always tend to think they know better than nature, apparently even convinced themselves they know better than our Creator!?

And concerning health etc... then you could also argue us women would get yukked and get infections due to having labia. Hence arguing that we all should have them removed.

Total utter BS. Like I said earlier, if you'd grown up in a culture where they clip ppl's noses because it was full of snot and bacteria and believed to be redundant and unhealthy, you'd find normal people with noses unhygienic and ugly. But that doesn't mean that having a nose actually IS unhygienic, redundant or ugly. This comparison may seem over the top, but it is the exact same thing.
Everything on and in the human body is there for a reason, a well thought out reason. The human body is the most beautiful, delicate, fine tuned and thought out 'machine' in the universe. The foreskin is part of that creation.

Jews knowing what they're doing ... Don't agree with that either. Ancient customs and/or religion all come with one big major problem: they aren't contemporary. They may have been thought up thousands of years ago, maybe for a good reason back then, maybe even for just the one tribe. That reason may very well have had to do with hygiene back then, some countries being really hot and having no proper bathing facilities. But then you're basically back to medical reasons.
These reasons have become obsolete long time ago.

Anyways, enjoy your circumcised penises and beliefs. Just for clarification: I have nothing against men who have been circumcised, they can't help it, their choice was taken away from them. But I am against the conviction that it is the right thing to do. And very glad I live in a country where we get to keep our bodies intact!

Yes, sometimes you have no choice... Had the same thing with my own boy. Fortunately they could do a partial circumcision, meaning they'd leave as much intact as possible.

Well, from what I understand the frenulum is mostly or completely removed and always damaged. And exactly that frenulum is what's sooooo incredibly sensitive!
Anyway, read what this guys says, circ'd himself:
"I bet most circumcisions take much or all of the frenulum. And without the ridged band it wouldn't feel the same. As I understand it, when you're intact, the entire penis including all of the parts function together, and the feelings are beyond amazing. We have about 1/4 of the nerves left, maybe experience a 3 out of 10. You can see men able to reach orgasm without touching the penis online. Good luck with that, or with coming from oral sex when you're older and circumcised. It's highly invasive surgery and we got hosed, there's no silver lining"

What I understand you can have it restored, but I suppose that wouldn't work anymore when you're quite a bit older? Once the skin has thickened a lot? But not sure... Not done research on that, just came across it on the forum from the link..

Valid reasons there, happiness. This one gets to me:

It's elective surgery and the patient doesn't get a choice in the matter.

Pity we haven't heard from more European men on the subject. Here is an article on circumcision rates in the UK whch may be of interest. http://www.cirp.org/library/statistics/UK/

Also gives rates for Australia, New Zealand and the US if you go back to the index.

the dorsal hood technique does not take away the frenulum... it's the most common technique done in our country, and probably the simplest, overall...but i imagine it is technically challenging and quite risky to do in a baby, due to the small size, and lack of ability to cooperate and stay still during the procedure...
