I'm betting we'll see regime change at the end of a Makarov pistol in the near future. Seems the military is suffering with another leadership purge.
People are being whacked left and right for such simple transgressions as yawning in a meeting or daring to question Kim Jong-Un's master plan on forestry! Since he finds new and inventive ways to execute people (used an anti-aircraft gun on a shooting range with bleachers set up for a couple hundred spectators, used a ground to air missile to blow someone up, or used a pack of starving wild dogs to maul others to death)he's just a tad on the disturbed side. Not sure if people get searched for weapons before meetings, but I think someone is just going to pull out a pistol and cap him on the spot. I'm thinking pretty soon someone with knowledge of the west is going to want more for his people than perpetual hardship and starvation. |

A very long time ago, when I was a very young child, someone managed to stop me from pointing out errors I saw being committed by others, by pointing out my own errors, and telling me that I should not complain until I was myself perfect. Something to do with their understanding of a certain Bible story, where Jesus talks about casting the first stone, as I recall.
At the time, I took it very much to heart, and for a long time, refused to act when others committed negative acts. But finally, I realized that if a person DOES wait for their own perfection before making any effort to end the bad acts of others, that no progress of any kind at all would ever be made. So instead, I adopted the idea that despite my own MANY imperfections, I will continue to oppose wrong and error where I see it, and I will accept the risk that someone may call me a fool or a hypocrite, because they think they see the same problems in me, that I point out in others. That's okay, even when it's true. Because the fact that I have problems to solve in myself, does NOT mean that someone else with the same problems, does NOT have to solve them. We BOTH do. Therefore the only mistake we should really point to in complaints about North Korea, are when the person making those complaints claims to themselves already be perfect. |

I read the OP story with interest. It makes me wonder how someone (who isn't just walking across the southern border) could get 220 pounds of meth into the US. It must be worth a lot of money. (I'll look it up)
What doesn't work is comparing the US to North Korea. There are some of the same problems, drug use, incompetent leaders, a non-functional social system .... .... maybe we are not as different as I thought.
