Guy in camo has turned himself in....have saw on another site that he was just open carrying during the protest and his rifle was unloaded....No one knows anything for sure though.
And as I type this, news is reporting one shooter now in custody per DPD.
Gonna take hours to sort all this out.

"UPDATE: Both snipers are now in custody, following a police chase down eastbound Interstate-35. This after a DPD officer saw one of the two throw a camouflaged bag into the back of a black Mercedes, before the vehicle sped off."

CNN had a pic of the guy from behind that was a bit more clear and it did have a mag in the well, whether it was loaded or not is hard to tell. It's been reported he turned the weapon over to police and there is video of him running when shots were first fired.
Suspicious 'package' recovered by DPD Bomb Squad.

A bit surreal to see the buildings and location of chaos and realize that's where I stayed on my last trip to Dallas.

This is not how you bring about change in the world...

May God bless all those affected by this senseless act.

There is some very graphic video out there of one of the shooters executing an officer at point blank range...filmed by someone with a cell phone...frickin' horrible. I'm not even gonna post it here.
I echo your blessings.

Was that visibly discernable or the balcony video clips? That was much less clear than what he reported he saw. Ismael Dejesus I think his name was. Michael Kevin's street level video didn't clearly show it either. Plenty cops cars lights shooting yes but Dejesus couldn't tell what race the shooter was but he could see him drop mags and count several pockets on the front of his pants. He said what color the shooters shirt was and tell he was driving a late model Chevy Tahoe... Just couldn't tell what race he was.

This wasn't spur of the moment. The planning of this event took longer than 2 days, the Police Cheif said that himself. He even said DPD was involved in the planning of the protest route(s) so this wasn't the plan OF the protest. Bomb making, planting, and using them as a bargaining chip with the Police, even if they were just passable fakes means this would've taken longer than the news of the killing of Alton Sterling. It's most likely opportunistic targeting by someone who had some kind of tactical experience. Aside from a few people being arrested for not clearing the street in N.Y. today peaceful protests and marches in major cities went off without a hitch. The FBI was even present in Dallas and no one had any indication that anything like this would happen so even the patriot act digital dragnet didn't set off any alarms.

When they try to tell you that the police were overpowered outmanned, outgunned and they need to arm themselves more heavily than they already are ask how many police were there, how well they knew the plans of the protest, how well they knew the area, how many riot police were on standby, how extensively they were monitoring digital and social media, how well they know the area, how many suspects were actively engaging with rifles and how them having 10 more bearcats (there was one present) would gives life back to anyone who died or heal their injuries. They damn sure can't claim ignorance. What happened is terrible and tragic especially so since this wasn't even a precinct where one of the civilian deaths in question occurred, nor county or States. It doesn't make any sense. Taking the citizens guns and arming the police more makes even less sense. Putting more officers on every street 24/7 is equally ineffective as evident today. We have to change the way they engage the public as a whole. They need to be equally accountable to the law as the citizens (or immigrants). Cookie cutter defenses do not work for citizens nor does ignorance of the law, the same needs to be true for police.

The bastards that did this will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law as they should be. Nobody wants this. No group, race, no reasonable person wants to see anything like what has happened the last three days on either side. The diversity and breadth of the peaceful protests today prove that. The inherent problem is that minority citizens, lawful or not, cannot act with impunity. There is no equal protection under the law. Unequal protection under the law and unequal subjectivity to the law is lawlessness. It doesn't matter who killed who, what matters is that justice is carried out in the court for everyone. Any civilian that would have killed or injured another person on video clearly without reasonable doubt would be prosecuted regardless of race. This is how the laws are intended to protect us all. The same does not hold true for police, so instead of protecting the good and great police it puts more good and great police in harm's way and unfortunately in caskets.

Rest in peace to the good officers who lost their lives doing what was right.

DALLAS (AP) — The Latest on the shooting of police officers in Dallas (all times local):
8:10
Police Chief David Brown says authorities are still not certain that they have identified everyone involved in an attack on a downtown protest march that killed give police officers.
Brown said Friday that investigators have not ruled out that others may have been involved in the attacks that left a total of 12 officers and two civilians shot.
Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings says an overnight standoff with one suspect in a parking garage ended when police detonated an explosive about four hours after the attack began. Authorities say the explosive was attached to a robot to protect officers.
Brown would not reveal any details about other potential suspects that have been detained by police and interviewed.

Police Chief David Brown says a suspect in the overnight attack that killed five police officers, wounded seven others and wounded two civilians said he was upset over the recent police shootings of black men and wanted to kill white people.
Brown said at a news conference Friday that the suspect made the comments before he was killed by an explosive used by police.
He says his department and their families are grieving and that the divisiveness between police and the public must stop.
Authorities say snipers opened fire on police officers during a peaceful protest in downtown Dallas Thursday night over the recent fatal shootings of black men in Louisiana and Minnesota.
Authorities say three other suspects were arrested.
___

A man wrongly identified by Dallas police as a suspect in a sniper attack on police says he turned himself in and was quickly released.
The Dallas Police Department put out a photo on its Twitter account late Thursday of a man wearing a camouflage shirt and holding a rifle with the message: "This is one of our suspects. Please help us find him!" The tweet remained on the account early Friday morning.
The man in the photo, Mark Hughes, tells Dallas TV station KTVT that he "flagged down a police officer" immediately after finding out he was a suspect. He says police lied during a 30-minute interrogation, telling him they had video of him shooting.
Videos posted online show Hughes walking around peacefully during the shooting and later turning over his gun to a police officer.

Dallas Area Rapid Transit officials say three DART police officers wounded by snipers during a protest are expected to recover.
Thursday night's shootings left four Dallas police officers and one DART officer dead, plus seven other officers wounded. The demonstration was to protest two fatal police shootings of black men in Louisiana and Minnesota earlier this week.
A DART statement Friday identified the agency's three wounded personnel as 44-year-old Officer Omar Cannon, 32-year-old Officer Misty McBride and 39-year-old Officer Jesus Retana. DART spokesman Morgan Lyons did not release details of the injuries, but said all three should recover.
Officer Brent Thompson was the first DART officer killed in the line of duty since the transit agency formed a police department in 1989. Thompson was 43 and had worked as a DART officer since 2009.
7:05 a.m.
Mayor Mike Rawlings says a total of 12 police officers and two civilians were shot during a protest march in downtown Dallas.
Rawlings said Friday that he does not believe that any of the wounded victims have life-threatening injuries.
He says five officers were killed and seven more were injured when snipers opened fire during protests over two recent fatal police shootings of black men.
___
6:40 a.m.
Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings says the suspect involved in an overnight standoff with police died after officers used explosives to "blast him out."
Rawlings said Friday that he was not sure how the suspect died or what weapons were found on him.
He says police have swept the area where the standoff took place and found no explosives.
Snipers opened fire on police officers in the heart of Dallas Thursday evening, killing five officers and injuring six others during protests over two recent fatal police shootings of black men.
___
6 a.m.
People gathered in small groups on Dallas' tense, police-filled streets before dawn early Friday struggled to fathom the still-unsettled situation.
Resident Jalisa Jackson says: "I think the biggest thing that we've had something like this is when JFK died," evoking the November 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy on the city's streets. She calls it "surreal."
Police said at least four suspects were involved in the killings of five police officers just hours before. The suspects were not immediately identified.
Downtown, officers crouched beside vehicles, SWAT team armored vehicles arrived and a helicopter hovered overhead.
Eleven Dallas officers were shot Thursday night during a peaceful protest over this week's fatal police shootings of black men in Louisiana and Minnesota in what the city's police chief characterized as a sniper attack.
___
5:45 a.m.
Dallas police say no explosives have been found in extensive sweeps of downtown areas following the fatal shooting of five police officers and the wounding of six others by snipers.
Security was tight Friday morning with numerous streets closed to vehicle traffic in the main downtown Dallas business district hours after Thursday night's attacks.
The gunfire happened during protests over this week's fatal police shootings in Louisiana and Minnesota of two black men. Police have detained at least three people in the investigation of the Dallas shootings.
Police said a fourth suspect was engaged in a standoff with authorities and had made threats about bombs.
Maj. Max Geron (GAYR'-uhn) tweeted before dawn Friday that primary and secondary sweeps for explosives were complete and no explosives were found.
The gunfire claimed the lives of four Dallas police officers and one Dallas Area Rapid Transit officer. DART serves Dallas and a dozen other North Texas cities. The transit agency operates buses and the state's largest municipal rail system.
___
5:20 a.m.
A memorial group says the slaying of five police officers in Dallas in an attack blamed on snipers was the deadliest day in U.S. law enforcement history since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Four Dallas police officers and one Dallas Area Rapid Transit officer were fatally shot Thursday night. The gunfire happened during protests over this week's fatal police shootings of two black men, in Louisiana and Minnesota.
Six other officers were wounded in the Dallas attacks.
The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund, which monitors the deaths of officers, reports 72 officers were killed as a result of the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the U.S. The group labels that attack as the deadliest day in U.S. law enforcement history.
4:30 a.m.
President Barack Obama says America is "horrified" over the shootings of police officers in Dallas and there's no possible justification for the attacks.
Obama is speaking from Warsaw, Poland, where he's meeting with leaders of the European Union and attending a NATO summit.
Obama says justice will be done and he's asking all Americans to pray for the fallen officers and their families. He also says the nation should express its gratitude to those serving in law enforcement.
Snipers opened fire on police officers in the heart of Dallas Thursday evening, killing five officers and injuring six others during protests over two recent fatal police shootings of black men.
Obama said earlier there was no contradiction between supporting law enforcement and making certain biases in the justice system are rooted out.
___
2:30 a.m.
Dallas Area Rapid Transit has identified its officer who was fatally shot when snipers opened fire during a downtown Dallas protest.
DART said early Friday morning that 43-year-old officer Brent Thompson was killed in the Thursday night shootings. He'd joined the DART Police Department in 2009.
DART says he's the first officer killed in the line of duty since the agency formed a police department in 1989. The statement says "our hearts are broken."
DART says the other three DART police officers shot during the protest are expected to recover from their injuries.
Also killed during the shootings were four Dallas police officers.

""He said: "We cornered one suspect and we tried to negotiate for several hours. Negotiations broke down and we had an exchange of gunfire.
"We saw no other option but to use our bomb robot and place a device on its extension and for it to detonate where the suspect was.

""An Army veteran “upset about Black Lives Matter” and “recent police shootings” who
opened fire Thursday night in Dallas in an attack on police officers has been identified as
Micah Xavier Johnson , the Los Angeles Times and CBS News report.

“The suspect said he was upset with white people and wanted to kill white people, especially white officers,” Brown said.
It is not clear if there were any other gunmen, or whether other people taken into custody by police were involved in the shooting. Police initially said two snipers positioned themselves in triangulated locations to fire on officers from elevated positions.
The gunfire began just before 9 p.m. while a peaceful rally was held by Black Lives Matter in response to recent controversial police killings of black men in Louisiana and Minnesota.
The gunman was then cornered in El Centro College in downtown Dallas.""

Slain officers starting to be identified

""Brent Thompson
The first of five slain Dallas-area police officers to be identified recently got married, according to James Spiller, chief of the Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) Police Department.
Brent Thompson, 43, was in "great spirits from his recent marriage," Spiller told local TV station WFAA . Thompson’s bride was also a DART officer, the station reported.

Patrick Zamarripa
The second name to emerge of the five Dallas-area police officers killed Thursday night was that of Patrick Zamarripa.
Writing on Facebook from Parkland Hospital, his father, Rick Zamarripa, told how his son had been "working there the rally in downtown” and was “shot and killed by a sniper along with four other police officers.”
“At this moment I'm still at the hospital … to see him be moved to the medical examiner's office,” adding that he needed “prayers to get through this.”

Michael Krol
The third slain officer to be identified was Michael Krol, a native of Michigan who moved to Dallas in 2007 to join the city’s police department.
“We are saddened by the loss of the dedicated officers in Dallas-one of whom was a former member of this agency-and also the wounding of the other officers,” said Sheriff Beny Napoleon of Wayne County, which incorporates Detroit. “Those officers made the ultimate sacrifice and died honoring their oaths to protect and serve. Our thoughts and prayers go out to their families and also the Dallas Police Department.”
According to Detroit-area TV station WKBK , Krol worked for the Wayne County Sheriff's Office in the county jail system from 2003 to 2007.
Krol, 40, was a former resident of Redford Township, a suburb of Detroit, reported the

Other 2 slain officers....

Michael Smith, 55. Smith's brother-in-law called him an exceptional father to two young girls. He served as an Army Ranger and went on to attend the Lamar Institute of Technology.
His brother-in-law said he recently had a talk with Smith about retirement, but said the officer was more concerned about his fellow officers and remained on the force.

Lorne Ahrens. Sources confirmed later Friday that the fourth Dallas police officer killed has been identified as Sr. Cpl. Lorne Ahrens.
