Is it important to you that the other person can communicate in a way you understand without having to do too much deciphering?

In other words, is it shallow to hold an expectation of being able to understand the other persons grammar and english? There are times when people type in such a way that it seems like they must not really speak english or at least speak it very poorly and I tend to keep going when that happens.....

Do you hang in there and try to figure it out?

...depends on what we are talking about ...text already lacks emotion..and if it's hard to read..if it's small talk I try to bow out gracefully ..but if we are talking about somthing important ..I try to understand..but if I can't I will bow out to avoid a senseless disagreement .. flowerforyou

Of course.

But it's relative so the answer won't have much meaning to you.

I mean my personal tolerance for "too much" in deciphering what they're saying is going to be different than yours, even if we use the exact words to find the demarcation.

Other than that, just as important as my willingness to decipher is their willingness and/or ability to facilitate the deciphering.

Grammar and english? IMO it's somewhat shallow to expect someones vocabulary and proper usage to match your standards.

Communication is more than just grammer and english.
When I read the first question I thought you were referring to full communication. e.g. "5 love languages."

Grammar and english are highly fluid. I mean people use different forms of grammar and english in daily situations. Like texting/tweeting vs. professional email vs. job interview vs. talking to their mom.

it seems like they must not really speak english... Do you hang in there and try to figure it out?

Ooooooh, you mean europeans, or asians, or middle easterners when they post to the forums in english.
Sometimes.
It's like a puzzle. I'm here for entertainment, and figuring out puzzles is entertaining.

It's possible they may be using a word processing program to write in their own language or one of a few hundred poorly managed translation apps. If it's translated word for word it's difficult to conjugate from one language to another, especially one outside latin, French, Italian, or Germanic languages. That's where most of the roots of our words come from but for some reason our grammar is light years away from those languages.

flowerforyou flowers  waving I agree to what Kindlightheart had said. That is proper communication.

In addition, we may not all speak the same language and if we do sometimes the text lacks emotion or its grammatically incorrect which makes us hard to decipher what the other person is conveying. But making an effort to understand the other is just the right thing to do instead of judging or insulting them. We could try to go on with the discussion depending on the topic but if it's senseless yes we could exit gracefully and politely as not to hurt other people's feelings. And we also shouldn't hardly take things when one doesn't respond to our messages for we all have the right to choose who we want to talk to depending on our preferences as well as some people are just cautious, we can't blame others when they are treading carefully in interacting with any netizens.
