""Halloween can be scary, but it can also be... offensive?
The University of Florida wants students to know that counseling is available for students hoping to work past any offense taken from Halloween costumes.
“Some Halloween costumes reinforce stereotypes of particular races, genders, cultures, or religions. Regardless of intent, these costumes can perpetuate negative stereotypes, causing harm and offense to groups of people,” the school administration wrote in a blog post. “If you are troubled by an incident that does occur, please know that there are many resources available.”

Administrators want students to know that there is a 24-hour hotline available through its Counseling and Wellness Center should they need to talk. The school also has a Bias Education and Response Team to handle reports of any discriminatory incidents.
“If you choose to participate in Halloween activities, we encourage you to think about your choices of costumes and themes,” the school advised.
It thanked students for “being mindful of these values,” before concluding: “Have a fun and safe Halloween.”

Poor little liberals! sad

Hope they have lots of safe spaces available for them

Holloween has been around a lot longer than any of the poor little whinny babies have been and the worst anyone ever worried about it before PC was home wrapped or non-wrapped treats from unknown sources and whether or not it will rain

What next? Do we say good bye to the Rubenesque jolly bearded man from the north pole and colored Easter eggs?

I raised my 2 sons to be " all boy".. and they were. They pushed the envelope(and my patience) at every chance. None of that whinny stuff.. none of that complaining BS... and they are certainly not PC... Just the way it should be.

What happened to kids these days?... in a few years they will be afraid to actually come out of that Starbucks that they now call their comfort area..

Racially insensitive costumes should not even be considered.

why would someone dress up as a muslim with a suicide belt on anyways? or someone dressing as KKK? It's neither funny or appropriate anywhere or at anytime.

it is those who choose these outfits that need counseling IMO. Maybe the UF is trying to lessen the chances of some kid going postal on campus this season, that's not a bad thing.

I don't know about any need for counselling, but for sure, Halloween has been an excuse for a lot of people to be EXTREMELY offensive to others, for a very long time now. That, or to behave very badly in general, and blame it on their "sense of humor."

Supply and demand

I have a friend who has Halloween costumes made in China and he sells them here to big box stores and specialty Halloween stores.

This is all this guy does for a living.. it is that good that it is all he HAS to do.

He will have any kind of costume made and he will sell it to ANY store that will display them.

He doesn't care.. the stores don't care either... $$$$

I'm offended that anyone could be offended by a night of fun.

What next, Christmas.
