I'm happy to say they still exist.

Personally i still do. Oldschool. But for women to take a more equal role and responsibility in society, as is their right..... Chivalry had to get snuffed. Imo.

Is opening a door for a date or any woman, a way to keep the down and or submissive?? Feminists might say HELL YEA!!!

Do old fashioned guys like me miss regular old fashioned women??
**** YES!!!

My only saving grace is i'm in my 50's and i date gals born in the 60 and 70's. More relatable and not a kung fu feminist insulting you for trying to pay for dinner.... and they wonder why i drink.

Well Miss Cape Town, i hope this opinion helps. And Welcome.

Yes, they do still exist. Very much so. I see it all the time. And they hold the door open for the elderly as well.

I do. That's how I was raised. My sons do too, because that's how they were raised.

I have seen men give up their seat on the subway to a woman as well. I have seen men ( total strangers to the woman) carry her luggage up the stairs in Grand Central station, then just nod and walk away.

And I have seen men not hold the door open for a woman... and then get the "a**h**e" look from other guys.

Women asked for the right to vote, equal rights & equal pay ......

And men laughed & laughed & said "open your own damn door".

*Yea, that must be it*

think it is very much a generation thing

if your Dad was a gentleman and respectful then he probably passed that onto you..

unfortunately, many were not very nice guys and raised their boys to carry on that tradition

I love when my husband does this for me. So much so that I am trying to teach our daughter as well. I will stand and wait t a door, holding my daughters back or arms to make sure she ill let her Daddy get the door. My husband wants to get the doors for us as well, and is very pleased when he does.

yep raised my boys that way

I can remember when my youngest went into the store first once

oh he was probably 13 or so..

forgot to hold door open for his Mommy

it was the movie rental store and I just stood there outside..

waiting for him to look around and figure it out

hahahaa..should have seen the shocked look on his face

when he couldn't find me and spotted me standing outside

looking in at him

he knew immediately what he did

There are still a few of us door holding/opening guys around.

I blame automatic doors and revolving doors for snuffing out old school tradition.

Chivalry is a lot more than just opening a door for a girl.
So far I don't think he's held a door open for me, but he's done some other things -also related to 'chivalry'- that to me are far more important than holding open a door. Things I've never seen a man do, not for me anyways.

And other stuff, like Rob said, paying for a dinner or drinks... I have no problem with that at all. I'd be rather taken aback if a man wouldn't do that to be honest. (I do offer to pay myself, don't want a man to feel unappreciated or used. So far haven't come across a man who let me pay.)

Now if you start seeing each other more often, I think it's nice if the woman does pay for things occasionally as well. There's got to be a bit of a balance. Appreciation shouldn't become a one-way street.

what happened to the men who opend doors for a lady

Men are very..in the moment.
They opened the door, then probably walked through it.
Then wonder what's keeping you.

One of my favorite moments is holding the door open for a lady, walking in in behind her and enjoying the view blushing

I know quite a few guys who still open doors, but it doesn't impress me all that much to be honest. Heck ... I open doors for men and women everyday and don't expect an award for it :). There are way more important symbols of being a gentleman in my opinion than just opening a door.

Originally, the label "Lady" was given to the wife of a "Lord".

So, if I ever encounter the wife of a "Lord", then I will open doors for her.

They are still out there I see it all the time.. Myself I normally don't think anything about it and tend to grab the door right off the bat.. You do that when you normally go out by yourself...

But the dates I have had they have always tried to grab the door..

I have friends that will literally put me in my place when I grab for the door.. I laugh at them let them and tell them thank you...

It is funny some say it is a old school thing... I still see it with the younger generation it is all how they were taught growing up..

Heck when leaving work at the end of the day... I very seldom open the door to leave for one of the guys will grab it first....

We may work in a Machine Shop and you hear all the shop talk and will admit I'm right in there with them... But when it comes down to it they are still gentlemen at the end of the day...happy
