This is a horror story that, unfortunately, there are way too many of today. What makes people do such horrific things to innocent people. I wish I knew.

In regards to the death penalty, there was a telling moment in last night's Youtube Republican debate. A question was directed at any candidate that considers himself a "Christian conservative". The question was about the death penalty and "What would Jesus do?".

Gov. Mike Huckabee, who happens to be an ordained minister with a Theology degree, explained why he was in favor of the death penalty. The moderator, Anderson Cooper, then asked him what the questioner had asked- What would Jesus do? Huckabee answered with a joke that Jesus was too smart to run for public office- and got a lot of laughs. But, he did not answer the question. Why? Maybe he was afraid that an honest answer would contradict everything he had just said.

I am opposed to the death penalty precisely beacause I believe in God. God gives life. We have no right to take it. These people who commit these awful crimes will someday have to meet their maker.

And God's justice will pevail.

Why should we feed them for the rest of time.
People in prison have better conditions than many of the poor.
Spend that money on the poor & put them out of the world.s misery.
Death penalty does deter prof. crooks, if it is used.
The cheap punks will think if a few of their friends are hung.
I say bring back the GALLOWS & make the punks watch what can happen.
Life is tough & prison's should be too.

Yes, the general population usually will take care of people such as these. Problem is; they usually isolate them. Protect them.

I say, feed them to the wolves they themselves portrayed.

As for the death penalty; too many innocents put to death. Too many getting out of prison after being there up to 20 years just to find they actually were not guilty.

What about those?

In a country as advanced as we claim to be, you would think we would have outgrown the death penalty by now. JMO

Exactly!! As I see it, putting a dangerous criminal behind bars is justice, it makes the streets safer. But to put someone to death is crossing the line into vengeance, it's a shame that my christian brothers of the "moral majority" don't agree, but then we rarely do;^]

Protect the children.

Heal the wounds of a sick society.

reaffirm the sanctity of life.

Death penalties advocated in society, gives permission to take lives.

Think about it.

there have been plenty of death sentences based on trials & evidence that later proved to be false & bogus....knee jerk justice is not the way...

Robert Stoming. See the State of MI vs. Robert Stoming. He killed his estranged wife, Julie and her mother, in 1991, in front of at least one of their 3 children. I grew up knowing these people and Michigan really needs to have the death penalty for that guy. He was a problem when I was little and got worse as he got older.

I saw on the news that the Mother was addicted to that WOW game .
It's really sad that a video game could consume your life so much that you would kill your child because they were a distraction from the game .

i know quite a few people that play video games, myself included, who would never harm a child. and yes, i play WoW.

--------------------------

while i'm incredibly saddened by this little angel's death...i still can't see the logic of capital punishment. let's teach people not to kill...by killing? where's the sense?

the mother of this babe is little more than a child herself, and will have many years to grow and regret the loss of her child.

I was not implying that the game itself was the cause but more so the addiction and that the child was considered a distraction by the mother .

i was watching the coverage on CNN, and they made a big deal of the WoW connection...that the woman and her partner had met online playing the game. they made a big deal of how violent WoW is...on and on...

it's always sad when children are seen as a distraction. i didn't see, however, how much time that she really was supposed to have actually put into playing the game.

This is the age of putting blame on someone, or something else.
Horsepuckey. If I were to hit someone, either drunk or sober, I am responsible for my actions. Yesterday, on the news here, I heard the story of a girl that wanted to commit suicide by car, but instead, she killed three buddies in an oncoming car, and I believe she just got sentenced to EIGHT flippin years? What kind of justice is that? I am a Democrat, who spent almost 9 years as a correctional officer at Cook County Jail, and "babysat" guys off death row for the entire time. They did not think twice about killing the person/people they killed, why should they be able to live better than the average joe? It costs about $35-40,000 a year to house an inmate, except in Maricopa County Arizona. A confession of these two "parents" should put them in the fast lane for the needle in Huntsville. May the Lord call the devil an hour ahead of them passing, to make sure there's room.

I cannot bring myself to say yes to the death penalty.
We are human, and we make mistakes.
What about those who are put to death and are later proven innocent?
Can we give them their life back?

We ARE human, and we DO make mistakes. That child was intentionally tortured and hurt, and then intentionally killed, concealed in a plastic container and tossed into the sea like garbage. That was a willful act....not a "mistake". Where the guilt is admitted, supported by evidence and proven to be true...in a heinous case like this..... I'd hardly call this your everyday variety of "mistake."
Who cares if that woman will ever have her life back? The child is gone forever.

There are just some ppl who deserve to be put to death....don't give me this crap about how advanced this country is....some ppl just do things that deserve the death penalty.

Has locking up Charlie Manson changed him?
Is he a wonderful loving human being now after all these years?

After all locking up Alfonzo Rodriguez all those years change him,. When he was let out he didn't go out and kill anyone did.....oops i guess he did. sorry my bad.

Anita Cobby:
Anita Cobby, former beauty queen and nurse, was killed by a gang of spineless cowards who preyed on women and other people's property between prison terms. Between the five of the them they had over 50 convictions for offenses including larceny, illegal drug use, car theft, breaking and entering, armed robbery, escaping lawful custody, receiving stolen goods, assault and rape. Her murder united the public in outrage, with many Australians calling for a reinstatement of the death penalty.

and rehabiltation saved this womans life didn't it.

so yeah lock em up for awhile and try to rehabilitate em. again they decided someone had no right to live so they give up thier own right. to bad to sad. no sympathy for em.

elwoodsully:

I'd have to agree with you on your posting. Here in Toledo, Ohio, a 15 year old murdered a police detective and was only sentenced to 18 years. (The choice of sentences was 18 years to life.) When the newspaper asked for peoples comments on the sentencing, my response was as follows: There's another drug dealer that got away with murder. And that's exactly how I feel. The detective was killed when he went to arrest the guy, who was dealing drugs. Where's justice?

It does surprise me sometimes the sentances differant criminals are given. I once saw two cases, a guy who failed a urine screening and a guy who worked at a day care center who was touching the kids. Much to my surprise, the first guy was given 14 months in prison while the child mollestor was given a mear 4 months in jail. I know first hand, sometimes the punishment isn't nearly enough, however I'd be more inclined to say we need to work on longer sentances rather than taking peoples lives. Again I say death penalty crosses the line from justice to veangance and doesn't really help do anything but to be able to say "I gotcha". Give em life in prison, it's alot harder to serve anyway. And for inmate costs to the state, I got a sollution for that too, drug law reform;^]
