A Las Vegas woman is suing Match.com for $10 million after she was matched with a man who hid in her garage and brutally attacked her. Match.com says she has no legal basis for her lawsuit.
Mary Kay Beckman filed suit in U.S. District Court on Friday, accusing Match.com of failing to disclose the dangers of online dating. She said she'd known Wade Ridley only eight days when she broke up with him in September 2010. Four months later, he stabbed her 10 times. He later was charged with murdering a woman in Phoenix. He died in prison last year. Match.com said in a statement Monday that Beckman's experience was horrible but the lawsuit is "absurd." It said Beckman was a victim of a "sick, twisted" man with no known criminal record. Match.com, the world's leading online dating and relationship company for over 15 years, markets itself as having gained "insight" into relationships from its millions of successful matches. |

she wont have legal basis, match.com is one of thousands of sites which have in their terms of agreement the fact that they do not run background or criminal checks on members, ,,,,there is no expected guarantee of safety there,,,

Unfortunate indeed. She should be gratefull that she is alive. She is obviousely in termoil and its so unfortunate that this happened to her. Unfortunately most datesites do bare some responcabilty, however, that responcibilty is limited to warning woman of common sence approach to dateing online. Iv seen several sites that do warn and post several do's and don'ts in regards to meeting people. Im not sure about Match.com, but most do advise to get to know a potential date by emails first, then graduate to phone conversations for a period of time, (there is no rush),then even before meeting, it be wise for a woman to accumalate data from that person for background checks. This info can be attained through conversation in a span of time, listen carefully to your instinct and have them earn your trust which in reality takes longer then most are willing to wait. Its better to be alone and in peace, then to be in a life threatening relationship. Finaly when you are truly comfortable after several months of comunicating, then the first date require simple common sence steps to insure safty. First dates should be in public places. Your loved ones should know where you are. Your date should also be made aware that loved ones know where you are. Ladys, listen to the guy carefully, if he is no good, his conversation through time will expose lies and inconsistantcies. What life will be like with this person will manefest in those phone conversations. One must simply listen and be alert.
