Compared to all industrial nations why is gun violence so high in The United States? I believe its our culture, personally |

that is probably as relevant to the job as the politician overheard at a get together here actually ADVISING a non resident guest to go on and cast a vote on our ballots in support of said candidate,,,,
it sets bad form, but is it as relevant as their actual 'job history'......probably not... this wouldnt be the first bigot to be able to seperate their personal quirks from their professional decisions,,although its probably not the norm |

It has become crystal clear to me that Judge Bolton is an activist judge. How can she or anyone say that it is okay for anyone to block traffic while trying to hustle up some work regardless who you are? Rhetorical question, I already know the answer and its because she is an activist judge. well, immigrants arent the only ones I have seen impoverished people walking up to cars to ask for money and nation of islam members walking up to sell papers I think its dangerous, but its probably within the law... |

Sexually assaulted twice and you still decide to not protect yourself? I choose not to walk around with the worst case scenario in my head. Even though it has happened to me, I still keep the perspective that its RARE. There is no guaranteed method to prevent or protect, because we cant control all variables. The reality is that once you have trained, and become comfortable carrying a firearm it becomes an item no different than your cell phone. I have a decade of experience that informs this understanding. It becomes an extension of your own capabilities, just like the cell phone, just like the fire extinguisher. Every normal sane person who carries, of which there are ~ 1 million in the US, hopes to never have to use it, but if our lives are on the line we have a capability that most victims do not have. Choosing to remain powerless and hoping to not be the statistic is neive, coming from a person who has been assulted multiple times . . . well, its not my purpose to insult you, but you ARE deceiving yourself. From what little I know of you, from reading your kind words on many of these topics, I think you are a good person. Its the good people of this world who need to confront the harsh realities and take strides against those that would do us harm. Its been 5 years since my first love, and best friend was brutally murdered. I would give anything to change the past, but I cant, so I work to change the minds of good people like you, that self protection is important. I want to help people understand. I grew up in a house hold were firearms were banned. My mother was deathly afraid, she shared your mentality that fewer guns meant fewer shootings, and she didn't want to be a part of the problem. So I grew up mostly ignorant of firearms, at age 12 I did get some training from my uncle, who knew that someday I might be confronted with firearms, and needed to understand safety. He did this in secret becuase he knew my mother would not approve, he didn't even tell my father. I owe him that. Along the way many things happened to slowly change my mothers mind. At first she believed her faith in god would protect her, but as the years past and tragedies built up she started to give more credit to the idea that god wanted us to build our own destinies. One night a knock on my mothers door at 2AM started her away from her computer puzzles. Three men stood at the door as she looked out the window. They demanded to be let in, of course she refused. What worried her was that the door was not very sturdy and if they had wanted to they could have easily kicked in the door. She yelled that she was calling the police and they left. Two weeks later her home was broken into and all of our family heirlooms, personal effects and valuables were stolen and three cats were killed. One week later she went with me to purchase her first firearm. She is now determined to not be a victim. It is up to us to forge our own destinies, and no one, god or otherwise can protect you when you are all alone at night with a small piece of wood between you and possible extreme violence. Everyday when we walk out into the world we take thousands of chances, you are right in that we cannot control all of these risks. What we can control is our abilities to meet them head on, prepared and armed. Not however if the government strips us of our capabilities. The only greater injustice than having someone harm you, is to have a faceless entity disarm you so that you cannot meet the risk head on. there is nothing in my life, that I wasnt BORN with, that I want or need to have with me EVERYWHERE I go,, including a cell phone I just choose not to lead such a life, I have a fire extinguisher at home, but I dont think about it because its strictly preventive and nothing that is able to harm anyone a gun, is a totally different type of 'tool', in my opinion, and I cant be convinced to feel a need for one at my side 24/7 but then, Im probably one of few who rarely if ever carries or uses a cell phone either,,, |

Unfortunately in some cases the wealthy won't use their own money to bail themselves out, they rather borrow it. Also this country and others have this idea that people should wake up in the mornings go to work and make the rich, richer. This is true but if thats the case shouldn't employers have company programs where the employees have motivation to come to work other than they have to pay bills. Some do the majority don't.Then again some companies have folded do to scandals or actually having programs to give the employees motivation. So if the wealthy would spread the wealth instead of sitting on it maybe it could help the economy or put a dent in it atleast.Theres billions of dollars sitting in these wealthy peoples accounts, even the interest alone could be used to help smaller business that are in trouble. No they rather crush the little guy and put people out of work.Or the investors see a big drop in profits take what they can and bail. This has become the American way. they could donate it to the government directly if they wanted to,,,if the thought of 'giving' it to hard working people offends them so,,, |

I wonder how many hours of torture he endured untill he "confessed". exactly my thoughts confessions alone rarely are enough to sway me,, watch 'rendition' hopefully they have actual EVIDENCE of him being involved beyond something like some phone calls....especially since he will now be such a target,,, |

A federal judge blocked police in Arizona from enforcing a section of the state's 2010 immigration enforcement law that prohibited people from blocking traffic when they seek or offer day labor services on streets. U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton ruled Wednesday that groups seeking to overturn the law will likely prevail in their claim that the day labor rules violate the First Amendment. The ban was among a handful of provisions in the law that were allowed to take effect after a July 2010 decision by Bolton halted enforcement of other, more controversial elements of the law. The previously blocked portions include a requirement that police, while enforcing other laws, question people's immigration status if officers suspect they are in the country illegally. The U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear Gov. Jan Brewer's appeal of Bolton's decision to put the most contentious elements of the law on hold. Another appeals court has already upheld Bolton's ruling. Three of the seven challenges to the Arizona law remain alive. No trial date has yet been scheduled in the three cases. The Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund and other opponents had asked the judge for a preliminary injunction to block enforcement of the day labor rules, arguing they unconstitutionally restrict the free speech rights of people who want to express their need for work. Brewer's lawyers had opposed attempts to halt enforcement of the day labor restrictions. They argued the restrictions are meant to confront safety concerns, distractions to drivers, harassment to passers-by, trespassing and damage to property. Brewer's lawyers have said day laborers congregate on roadsides in large groups, flagging down vehicles and often swarming those that stop. They also said day laborers in Phoenix and its suburbs of Chandler, Mesa and Fountain Hills leave behind water bottles, food wrappers and other trash. Bolton previously denied an earlier request to block the day labor rules, but opponents were allowed to bring it up again after the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals ruled on a similar issue in September. The appeals court had suspended a law from Redondo Beach, Calif., that banned day laborers from standing on public sidewalks while soliciting work from motorists. The court ruled the law violated workers' free speech rights and was so broad that it was illegal for children to shout "car wash" to passing drivers. Read more: http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2012/02/29/federal-judge-blocks-arizonas-day-laborer-restrictions/?test=latestnews#ixzz1npvNseaM It's illegal to block traffic, so these criminals can get away with it because they are illegal(already commiting another crime?!?!) we agree on something I dont see how even this gets tagged as a free speech issue, they arent being stopped from expressing a need with their mouth, they are being stopped from having their BODIES obstructing traffic,,,, |

The internets are the new TV! I totally believe that. Except, other than news stations, we have clear indications on most programs that they are fiction. THe internet passes just about everything off (except advertisements) as fact and the more sites duplicate and republish said 'facts' the more people tend to believe it |

This goes right back to gun free zones. The law disarms the law abiding. So now instead of having sheep dogs available to deal with a wolf you now have nothing but sheep, all to support the illusion of safety. sheep dogs and wolves are loosely related, their instinct is just different as are peoples instincts, its just much harder to discern who are wolves and who are sheep dogs and I dont want to give away guns to more potential wolves for the illusion of having safer sheep,l,, The role of a sheep dog is to protect the defenseless sheep. The nature of the wolf is to prey on the sheep. These archetypes are reflected in our modern society. http://www.scribd.com/fullscreen/78800063 Federal and state lawmakers have often opposed repealing or amending laws governing the ownership or carrying of guns. That opposition is typically based on assumptions that the average citizen is incapable of successfully employing a gun in self-defense or that possession of a gun in public will tempt the average citizen to violence in“road rage” or other contentious situations. This paper finds that such cases represent an exceedingly small minority of gun uses by otherwise law-abiding citizens and that a great number of tragedies—murders, rapes, assaults, robberies—have been thwarted by self-defense gun uses.
The facts are that far more crime is prevented than accidental deaths attributed to negligent discharge, road rage, or any other caveat the gun control crowd can imagine. All of that while only 2% of the population carries. 2% can make a difference, this tells its own story. I really cant imagine being the 98% anymore, being defenseless, not knowing if someone is going to arbitrarily snuff me out and I have nothing to say about it. its just much harder to discern who are wolves and who are sheep dogs This goes right back to not being in control of your environment. You cannot control, neither can all the laws in the world, the environment. You have to adapt to it, you cannot make it completely adapt to you. There will always be the possibility of meeting your end at the hands of an attacker. These facts are supportive of carrying a firearm everywhere at all times.
the number of rapes prevented by women armed with guns exceeded the number of rapes reported by the NCVS
This statement needs serious attention from any women not currently carrying a firearm. Id like to know the criteria used to decide a rape was stopped with a gun and to read more about who conducted this study I have been sexually assaulted twice, no weapon on either me or the assailant,,,, if it was stopped, how did they determine it was going to be a rape,,where are these things reported? ,,in any case, I Stand by my opinion that the incidence of rape/homicide is low enough that I dont care to see more bullets in the streets with potential to hit wanted AND unwanted targets,,, I dont see a gun as just a product for purchase and its not my right to tell others not to carry one, but it is an option as a voting member of the public to vote on such issues when those who do have the authority to do so bring it up,,,, |

"I wasn't worried about freedom. I was worried about people being turned into morons by TV." -- Ray Bradbury in 2001 talking about his book Fahrenheit 451 Is television actually making us stupid? After all, this is a device nicknamed"the boob tube" and "the idiot box." Television was once famously called the "vast wasteland,"a moniker that has stuck since it was spoken. Can we look to television to show us the status of society? Does TV reflect the nation's intellectual capacity and contribute to its decline at the same time? http://www.turnoffyourtv.com/commentary/morons/stupid.html yes, I believe it has I believe less exposure to television does wonders to help the mind develop use of logic and common sense the tv can be a drug, harmless if not misused or it can be a virus, waiting to slowly destroy the mind |

age is not 'just' a number, its a good indicator of likely amount of life experience, and likely emotional and intellectual development
but it isnt an absolute, just a general scale to reference there are probably more thirty somethings who speak five languages and have traveled to several countries, than there are, say, 16 year olds but again, its not an absolute, just a general reference when it comes to dating , you just dont KNOW until you take time to know the individual, you can find very immature 'adults' and very mature 'kids' on occasion |
