hi guys, just stopping in to let you know my site has been revamped so if you want to take a peek at it, please do. I've got audios, a book store and recommended reading. It's not as pretty as the site our own Daveyb set up, but it's pretty good. So please come by and sign the guest book.

Here is something I wrote last year that I have revamped for THIS year *smile*

It’s Valentine’s Day

All around me I feel the anticipation growing,
young faces glowing with such sweet surprise
glimmering in eyes watching showers of flowers
arrive, handed out accompanied by love notes
badly scripted with devotion depicted
in awkward words dictated yet unheard,
safely presented in small envelopes
to be opened by that lucky lady
finally finding her own Prince Charming

But what is a Valentine?

Is it a rose or a card that says, ‘Be Mine’
Impatiently, thoughtlessly picked up
at the last possible moment from the
local drug store or airport souvenir shop?

Is a box of candy delivered to your door
eaten, given away or gone to waste
in a matter of days,
soon to be forgotten?

Perhaps a Valentine is really given every day
in little ways, those special moments of sharing
between two people caring enough to
take the time out of an often hectic day
long enough to say, ‘I Love you’?

Could Valentines’ be all those little things
that remind you of why you were
brought together in the first place?
a look on a face that says,
‘I’m so glad we found each other’?

I don’t know …

It’s so hard to say
Valentine’s Day could be all that and more …

Perhaps one day it will find my door
bringing sweet surprise to my own empty eyes …

Owie. Dang it Henry, stop tossing that foam at me. It hurts my sensitive head. rant laugh

KC, you can make it a different perspective or a difference voice. Your'e not a jive talker. Write the way you speak. It's the only way this rings true. xoxoxoxoxox

kc, I'm going to approach this one here as I would on our writing site. This one started for me at stanza 6. The rest is written in jive and it doesn't ring true to me. It's not you. From stanza 6 you start a point of view that's believable and heartfelt. And even then you're still in the jive mode much of the time. I myself would do this one not from the first person vantage but as an observer. I think it's about 88 percent in it's growth. It's really good. But it could be great.

See how much I love you my friend? I come on here throwing myself out there for rocks to be thrown at me by giving you honest criticism. *smiling*

Running on Fumes is also available on Amazon now. However, if purchased through there, the copy purchased will not be a signed copy and there will be no cd in the book containing any readings. I've decided to offer those up only with the first 100 who want signed books and those must be bought through my site. I apologize for any inconvenience.

Her time torturously blending one day to the next,
sitting alone in a cold room decorated in depression,
she inhales the ever encroaching,
sickeningly sweet scent of death,
bypassing the warm Christmas cheer hanging in her closet,
clinging instead to the comforts of
the ancient faded bathrobe she once wore
temptingly accessorized with a
youthfully sweet, sassy sensuality

She’s lost herself now,
unable to read her own mental memoirs,
finding them unbearably painful to view
this life filled with shame and regret

So she’s recreated her story in naughty,
used and yellowed pages she’s stained
with the remnants of forbidden sins she’s digested
in the wee hours of a morning heavy …
… with exhaustion

Night brings more than darkness;
midnight reflections hold an unrelenting terror

I look in her face and see myself there
in hopeless eyes made up in pain,
darkly, heavily,
lined with despair,
all dignity lost,
along with gray hair,
and a feminine flair
once taken for granted,
dissipated along with good health
and a lifetime of social niceties
now nothing more than dim memories

A narration sadly played out,
her saga once scripted in
vibrant idealism brutally hijacked
by a perverse ghostwriter with
a penchant for twisted endings

Helpless to help the hopeless,
I offer up the only solace I can conjure up
as I shamefully creep into her room with
sweet orange spiced tea and
handfuls of wistfully,
blissfully manufactured Harlequin love

Her muted face momentarily flashes a brief hope,
almost one of a flickering recognition as smiling,
she takes her tea cakes, her cup and her books.
shooing me out of the room where she plans
to spend the rest of her evening
in love with a virile stranger who would
fight pirates to the death in order to save her
when those who truly know and love her ... cannot ...

Michael there are a variety of online writing groups where you can post your work for very valid and honest critiquing. However as Pam has stated, you may have to have a thin skin on some of them. But we dont learn without a little harsh critiquing periodically. Let's face it, just 'cuz mom, dad, uncle bob, aunt gert or whomever may think we're all that and a bag of chips does not necessarily make us "writers".

"I post most of my writing here but I have all of them time stamped and encoded on my harddrive so anyone that uses them will be handled legally according to the DMCA"

You do realize that having them time stamped and encoded do not constitute copyright, yes?

"it is the way
she carries herself
she walks like dancing
and dances like making love
in her eyes is a mobile
dangling jewels
illuminated from within"

Gorgeous, and evocative description ... lovely...
