um - no. I am not making it an issue. It IS an issue, albeit unfortunate. It is. You may not have heard...?!?! You're not even American.

and you know this how?

by the fact that i am currently LIVING in canada, as a canadian CITIZEN?

how do you know where i was born, or where my loyalties lay?

hmmmm, who is making assumptions now?

You live in Canada, yes - ?

Are you voting in the American election on November 4th?

that is not what you said

you said i was not an american

and i want to know how dare you make an assumption about me, while accusing others of same?

If you're not voting and not living in America, then RIGHT NOW, you are not American as far as I am concerned. If you were born here, have become a citizen eslewhere and now have no American rights to vote in this election, then you are "no longer" American. Whatever the case may be. Are you voting or not...? Does your political opinion matter in America or not...? This is what I am asking NOW. And yes, how dare I execute my right to freedom of speech?! I'm only American afterall.

btw - you are aware of the fact that there are MANY "die-hard democrats" won't even vote for Obama BECAUSE of his skin color?

as info - I didn't accuse you of being one, you have already claimed no political affiliation. In fact, based on your posts, you have made it pretty clear that you don't care about the upcoming election to begin with. Nor did I call you a racist. My 'rant' is because of your lackadaisical attitude toward this election.

ummmm noooooooo your rant is because I said I'm tired of all the fanatic partisan bomb throwers and wished they really would leave the country.

and you made the assumption that I was referring to you and then proved it

I **started** ranting as a reply to your categorizing all the people who are ready to pack up and leave the states if their candidate doesn't win are fanatics...

I have continued to rant becasue of your lackadaisical attitude toward this election.

Bomb throwers...?!?! Yeah, thats me alright - I put my theee year old on my shoulders and run around terrorizing America cuz I wanna be a friggin anachist and bring down the government.

And if you beleive that, I have this bridge in Brooklyn for sale... cheap!

well you sure are doing a lot of hyperventilating over someone who just happens to not agree with you. seems pretty fanatical to me

there ya go assuming ISH again. no one over here is losing any air darlin'

How is that belitting?! IT IS A FACT! Why is it that if someone speaks the TRUTH - if it isn't always pretty - it is suddenly wrong?!?! Around here, that is respected. We can HANDLE the truth. In fact, it makes one stronger if they can handle the cold hard facts. When you ask a question or make an assumption, you need to be prepared to handle a negative result or you are weak.

If ya feel so 'belittled', then ya need to loosen up your belt and grow some!!!!

A woman with an opinion and not a "yessir" girl is not common in your neck of the woods...? Or hers - ?

Thus there even being a problem here as to why you think this election is "just another election". Many white people who do not consider themsleves racists seem to think that this is smaller than it is.

so you're saying that anyone who doesn't suport Obama is a racist? THAT sounds pretty racist to me

NO! But a Democrat who says that they will not vote for him becasue they are not ready for a black President is hanging on to racial bias and not looking at him as a qualified candidate, just seeing hims as a black guy.

actually, it's YOU who keeps referring to the colour of his skin and making it an issue

I just heard from some Canadians

they don't want you either

I guess your Canadian friends don't know mine - I already have somewhere to go and a job opportunity if I want it. And if things don't work out there, its off to Australia where I have family and friends as well.

LOL! wtf?!? :P ~ "belittled" and "insulted" - um... didn't know I was insulting you, and certainly not belittling anyone.

You have "labeled" me as a fanatic - which is insulting to ME.

Did I somehow strike a nerve? I was simply asking a question... where you live and where I live consist of very different surroundings. Unfortunately you are not alone. Thus there even being a problem here as to why you think this election is "just another election". Many white people who do not consider themsleves racists seem to think that this is smaller than it is. It is not the media that makes this election so huge, it is bigger than the media can make it. And, although I do not like to just assume things about someone I do not know, you have already made assumptions about me so you turned on the switch already.

never mind. I changed my mind.

I hope McCain wins so that some of these people WILL leave the country and leave it to us moderate closet racists

that was ignorant. plain and simple.

you stated that you think this is "just another election".

that, dear - you are wrong about.

"these people" - you mean us folks that have civil opinions based on reality...?!?! or is it "these people" who are infecting those who don't know any better because they don't get to see it in real life....?

I'm sure Canada is much too conservative for you
seriously? they have universal health care that hardly sounds "conservative" to me. If they were conservative they would let the poor die in the gutter like we do.

Madisonman, take it from someone who has tried universal health care (Called the military) It doesn't run as smoothly as everyone thinks it does. When I lived in Germany, on a military base, with military health coverage and the "universal health care" style system, it took us two months after making the initial appointment to see a doctor. Even longer just to get an ultra sound and for my tonsils to be removed. Yeah, there is health care for everyone, so to say, but the doctors work very little.

I am not saying our system is any better, because there are a lot of downfalls, but seriously...If you are going to base all of your opinions off of the movie "Sicko", just don't say anything. Weigh both systems and then come back and tell us which system is the lesser of two evils...but think of this...more often than not, on the Universal health care system, people die in the emergency room waiting for the doctors to get off of break, or because the hospital is under funded, or because the doctors decided that since they weren't getting paid fairly, they went golfing.

I would like to add that Obama is not endorsing universal health care. He's providing a way for the uninsured working middle class to obtain insurance.

thank you! I am so sick of people lableing him as a Socialist. It all comes from the negative campaigning bs from the republican party FANATICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

too simple of an assumption.

...it's far more coplicated than that. Not simply wanting to leave because "my guy" doesn't win (this was simply a figure of speech) is not the reason - it is because of what the winning of that nominee represents. If he does not win, it is because of the DIVIDE in America. It is because of being fed up. It is becasue of the fact that him not making it to the oval office is truthfully a factor in taking steps backwards and not forwards in America.

Fanatics are people who can't have an original thought. As well, are not open to change as they are so devoured by a closed mind. My mind is open to change and searches for answers. I have more "original thoughts" than I even care to discuss. As a creative person, this comes naturally. Fanatics are cult-like people who have programmed opinions that are nothing more than bites off of their "masters" expression. One thing liberals are surely not is "fanatics" in regard to politicians. Maybe "fanatical" when it comes to standing up against "the opposition" as we will do some wild things to make a point. Dreams and hope drive the liberals to steps toward change. My dreams are of HOPE and CHANGE. If Barack doesn't win, its a negative notch in the "belt of change".

Maybe you've just chosen the wrong word.

a fanatic believes his/her way is the only way and won't accept anything else. I think I would definitely put you in that 5%

if Obama doesn't win it's just another election not the end of the world. The other 90% of us will get on just fine and you 10 percenters can wail all you want

There ya' go judging again! You don't know enough about me to logically justify such. But, you can put me in any category you wish. You're entitled to your opinion. I can say that at 40 years old, and a life filled with many ups and downs, changes and stagnations alike. In the face of adversity I am not so simple-minded to beleive "my way" is the only way.

I wish that you were right that this was "just another election". Maybe your world is a little too white?

that was great =) ~ pretty funny even tho its sad that it has even come up.

...the "original" story was repulsive. I can't beleive it even made it to the news... I don't have a degree in journalism, nor do I have any connections with civil servitude such as Law Enforcement, and I had her pegged for a phony before I even read the article! It was ridiculous.

"fanatic" - ME!? lol! Not so much. But its rather apparent you are quite judgmental, I see. Very interesting - that speaks volumes about your character.

hahaha yet another person who thinks every general comment applies to them.

yeah I AM very judgmental. stupid people really piss me off

considering your post was in regard to those of us folks ready to go if "our guy" doesn't win - - and I had just made my "statement" as to how I was one of them - your "general reply" WAS a reply to mine and anyone else who answered the thread with a "yep, I'm outta here" response... this isn't a play on narcissism.

I encourage every disgruntled person to move out of the country if their candidate doesn't win. We'll be better off with fewer fanatics

"disgruntled" - nah.... that won't be the case. Disgusted, fed up....completely repulsed by the lack of willingness to move forward towards positive changes in Amerca without racial bias.
You say "potato"....

"fanatic" - ME!? lol! Not so much. But its rather apparent you are quite judgmental, I see. Very interesting - that speaks volumes about your character.

Obama is QUALIFIED to be President of the United States - period. Unfortunately there ARE racial stigmas still living in the US and this makes his qualifications muted by the color of his skin. If Barack Obama does not win the election, sadly - it will be because of racism, not his qualifications. This is a fact. A very ugly one, but albeit true. Barack Obama is not only a great candidate, but the iconic face of chance in American's belief in "the American Dream". Just getting the nomination has already boosted morale of the children that have been living in poverty and single parent homes with very little hope to live their dreams when they see their families and neighborhoods falling down around them. Barack is a man of people, and a man of hard work... he is proof that in America you truly CAN be anything you want to be if you persevere and don't let fear stand in your way. We need him in the Oval Office for many reasons, but for me, I think his critical need is for our youth. Especially our young men in urban environments watching their dreams crash down around them every day. As President Barack will rightfully be a key member of the most Historical Black Americans in history. He is exactly the sort of role model our young people need. Especially the children in our inner cities who haven't a positive male role model to live up to.

If he does NOT win - then my faith in Americans as a people who stand together and not divided by color drops. Justifiably so. The idea of another 4 years of republican "conventionalism" (tongue-in-cheek) disturbs me immensely. We need BIG change in this country, and in order for that to happen - it has to be done by something monumentally different. I am not even talking about things like socialized medicine. I am talking about people changing PEOPLE!!!! If the tables were turned, do you really believe the election numbers would be as close as they are? This is what racism does. It covers up, rationalizes and minimizes qualities in one candidate and emphasizes negative characteristics in another when there is a color difference. I'm sorry folks, but John McCain is an ornery, trigger-happy old fool who is past due for retirement... sure, he has done good things and bad things, just like the majority of politicians... but if he were the black man in 'the race' you "die-hard republicans" would not be so quick to jump on his ticket!

and for the comment made about "people not helping themselves" - yeah, riiiiggghhhht!!!!???? You can leave ME outta that little 'peck'. That is all I do is help and take care of 'mine'... writing letters to my Senator on a weekly basis... taking care of my kids and working my ass off day by day... making enough money to NOT qualify for any "gov't help" but not enough to afford my OWN prescriptions.

P.S. Anyone who is IGNORANT enough to believe that Barack Obama is not an American citizen should not even have the right to vote.

I said months ago that I am outta here if the Republicans take another term. Canada or Australia. I'm out...

For every single civil human who respects people for who they are and doesn't judge foks based on the color of their skin in the states there seems to be an ignorant racist butting-up against him or her. And the worst part about it is that the majority of them are not "outwardly racist" - they are worse than the outspoken self-righteous ones. In the Northeastern United States we have "come a long way" - sure... and racial stigmas are not quite as possessive here as they are 3 states south of me... BUT - we are not there yet. And we will be taking an enormous step backwards if this Election doesn't go to THE BEST MAN.

Being a woman myself, and having lots of women friends... and being straight and being attracted to men, I think I am fully qualified to answer this question. ;-)

I have found that the one common denominator most of us ladies look for in a man is that he be a man of his word. The road to hell is paved with good intentions, fellas - don't write checks your asses can't cash! And I am not talking about monetary contributions... (the check thing is a figure of speech) I am simply saying that if you SAY you're going to do something - DO IT. Otherwise - keep your mouth shut and don't make promises that have no validity.
