At the end of the day society (all of us) are to blame. We need better education (law, psychology, neuroscience), better health care that's free, better justice and government system, better social security system if not guaranteed minimum income system, some sort of guaranteed housing/food system, public control over government including police, better screening of government employees including police/military/politicians since the current one is very flawed and mandatory drug and psychological testing for everyone. It's not reasonable to expect people to help others when they can't even help themselves. Quite a few common problems are genetic and people don't know how to recognize much less deal with them. People should take responsibility for the society we have created/participate in.

AVG free was pretty good when I used it. I just use Microsoft security essentials now along with malware bytes and superantispyware.

You'll probably get more out of a script blocker and browser addons like web of trust , ghostery , ad blocker and bit defender traffic light. The script blockers help a lot but they block a lot of webpage functions also. Overall thescript blocker will probably be the most useful though. I have it set up so that the script blocker doesn't work in incognito mode. I have an incognito mode switcher addon so that I can turn on/off the script blocker by pressing the incognito icon.

I also use sandboxie which has a sandboxed webbrowser option and an auto delete feature on closing. By using it I can separate my web browser from my computer and restore the web browser to it's default by closing it (deleting contents).

newegg.com is probably the best place to get computer stuff in and around the US. Upgrading the video card might help with games but your cpu may bottleneck your performance so a full system upgrade might be better. My nvidia 9800 gtx+ managed to run all games fine until I upgraded it last year. Consoles are pretty much limiting the pc requirements for games which allows older computers to still play modern games. Hardware development has also been stuck in a rut for quite a few years unlike in the early 2000s where major improvements took place yearly.
