Buying a pet as a suprise gift is bloody stupid in my opinion. It's something that needs discussion and agreement. It's a living thing FFS! Not a frikkin' Furby!

i have a big dog... lab.... its hard as a empty nester to get someone to watch her sometimes if i want to leave for a few days or so to watch her...

Dogs are nice, but I would not be happy if someone surprised me with one as a gift. Just make sure she actually wants one.

I think i would hint around a bit to make sure she would want a dog and if so what kind.. dont just go and buy it for her she might not like that maybe she would want to go with you

a good present?? I made my daughter wait for yrs. I told her it's like raising a baby and you can't leave them alone. I bought her one a few weeks ago. And told her its her responsibility to raise her over the summer. P.S. Theres never a perfect time to buy a pet, you either get one or not.

Yep, a dog - or any pet - is a huge responsibility, and a dog would take lifestyle changes possibly, and proper care and feeding of them is not cheap! No way I would do that unless it was totally planned out. You want to get her something cute that makes her go gaga get her a teddy bear...or a Furby
