Jimmy Carter is set to endorse Barack Obama. That is one endorsement I'd say, "thanks, but no thanks" to. Double digit inflation, double digit interest rates (remember the misery index?), 444 days of hostages being held by a Third World band of Islamic fascists, and a Congress led by Democrats and a White House led by a Democrat who couldn't get anything done.

Endorse on Jimmy; endorse on!

Add to that a thoroughly-botched rescue attempt to get those 444 hostages out of Iran (where several soldiers lost their lives) thanks to a thoroughly-indecisive executive branch calling the shots, and you've got a pretty piss-poor record as President. It's a shame people now think of the former peanut-farmer as a political maverick nowadays instead of a political red-herring.

What about his accomplishments since he left office, like Habitat for Humanity, which has helped many poor people gain home ownership?

Can you name one Republican President who has done so much for so many after they left office?

Carter is the perfect example of electing an inexperienced president just because of voter discord.......Geez, maybe he did learn something from all the problems he didn't solve while president.laugh laugh laugh

Reagan cut a deal with the Iranians, or they wouldn't have released the hostages just after he got elected!

And John McCain criticizes Barack Obama because he's willing to try to negotiate with the Iranians!

http://www.slate.com/id/2192819/

One of Reagan's famous phrases was 'Trust, but verify!'

Remember, there are a lot of people in Iran who do not agree with Ahmadinejad.

He may have some power, but he's not the only person who decides how things get done in Iran!

I don't really care about what a President does AFTER he leaves office. I care about what he does when he is IN office. And Jimmy Carter was an abject failure as a President. I would submit he was one of the worst Presidents ever. Ergo, what he says now must be measured against what he did in office.

Let him go pound a hammer; tell him to stay out of American foreign policy, e.g., meeting with Hamas/Hezbollah.

Reagan cut no deal to free the American hostages held 444 days in Iran by the Ayatollah. Iran feared Reagan. They did not fear Carter.

Carter refused to permit American athletes to go to Moscow in 1980 to compete in the Olympics in response to the Soviet Union's invasion of Afghanistan. And Afghanistan remained under Soviet control. Reagan supplied Stinger missiles and the Soviets were defeated. (I know, I know, Hollywood is trying to claim some left wing Democrat was responsible for funding the Mujahadeen. False. It was Reagan on the advice of William Casey. But that is Hollywood folks; revisionist history. The Democrats actually stood int eh way of our foreign policy in the 80s, just like they are today.)

I can still hear the speech: Reagan in Berlin: "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall." And the wall came down.

The Algiers Accords of January 19, 1981, were brokered by the Algerian government between the USA and Iran to resolve the Iran hostage crisis that arose by the capture of American citizens in the American embassy in Tehran. By this accord the American citizens were set free.

Among its provisions it was stated:

* The US would not intervene in Iranian internal affairs
* The US would remove a freeze on Iranian assets and trade sanctions on Iran
* Both countries would end litigation between their respective governments and citizens referring them to international arbitration, namely the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal.
* The US would ensure that US court decisions regarding the transfer of any property of the former Shah would be independent from "sovereign immunity principles" and would be enforced
* Iranian debts to US institutions would be paid

So you dislike Carter so much because of what he did in 4 years of his life and not the last 30 by building homes for people? I've met him before and he is a good man, and cares alot about people. If you want to look at failed presidents look no further than the one in office now.

Ridiculous incorrect revisionist history.

Reagan had little to do with the wall coming down.

The Soviet Union had simply run out of money after years of overspending on their military.

And they realized it was time for a change.

Gorbachev had more to do with Soviet Union reforms and the wall coming down than Reagan.

Yet starry-eyed Republican Reagan admirers all buy the bullcrap spewed by talking head neocons instead of what actually happened.

That's why they trotted out Mitt Romney, hoping to resurrect Reagan's tired old ghost to lead us to the promised land.

Thank God McCain beat him.

Even McCain is better than that tree stump.

Thanks for the polling data Fanta.

But you know the thing about polls.

They change.

McCain could raise his poll numbers by simply telling the neocons running his show to take a hike.

But that's not likely to happen.

I laugh at the comment Reagan had nothing to do with it. Everyone said Reagan was dangerous; he would cause WWIII. He rebuilt our military, deployed missiles in Europe over strong left wing protests, funded freedom fighters from Nicaragua to Afghanistan, and called the Soviets for what they were: an evil empire.

Who would have thunk it in 1980 that the Soviet Union would collapse? No one.

Go to You Tube and play the Reagan's speech at the gate. The call of freedom; the idea that man is free.

"Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall." Hell, even Reagan's own State Department didn't want him to say this line.

And to think liberals are the poster child for political correctness. It is only the left that squashes dissent. They do it on college campuses; they do it in newspapers; they do it in politics.
