Grandmother's gun. The child reached into her grandmothers, purse which was sitting beside her in the cart at Wal-Mart. Then shot herself while the grandmother looked on helplessly.

To me this is just another example of the danger of our gun culture. The gun was unsecured and anyone could have gained access to the gun. People always argue that criminals can get guns so easily, I wonder how many of those guns come from people with permits who carelessly leave them around unsecured.

Well....it certainly is an example of being STUPID with a gun and a small child around. I'm sure the two can co-exist as long as the owner of the gun is responsible.

Hmmmm.... bad grandma. I can't help but think she is stupid. I'm sure she has not much to say for herself, but you never know. I hear people justify amazing things.

This really has little to do with actual gun control. This is a case of one person being an idiot. I own guns, but they are and always will be unless they are needed locked in our gun safe.

I can almost guarantee you that "grandma" has no permit for that weapon.

Responsible gun owners, those that actually take the time to go through the process of buying and getting licensed, are not the problem. They do NOT "carelessly leave them around unsecured".

Grandma took a gun, to Wal-Mart, in her purse.

That's a recipe for disaster.

No, I don't own any guns.

The report said that she did have a permit. The most stores post a notice saying you are not allowed to carry a consealed gun while shopping, but not goood old Wal-Mart.

actually from what i read grandma did have a concealed weapons permit but that doesnt explain the stupity of carring it with a young child around.

she was an idiot and should have secured her firearm. This is sad and accidents happen, however, you sound like an anti gun person by your description of our gun culture, I assure you, many more people are killed by criminals that shouldn't have guns than by irresponsible gun owners, who should be held accountable. Trust me, if your home gets invaded or robbed while you are there, the police are not going to be there to help you, they come AFTER a crime

This is a tough one.

Remember years ago when that idiot went into that restaurant in Texas and just opened fire walking around in there for over an hour as people hid under the tables, and he just randomly picked off people? I'd thought, if Anyone in there had had a gun with them, they could have stopped such madness. In that case, I would have been happy if someone had had one.

lets not get all anti gun here. remember, guns dont kill people, people kill people. its sad that the little kid got killed.

blame the grandma all you want. you would all be singing a different tune if grandma had shot a man trying to kidnap that kid. all of a sudden she would be smart grandma for taking a gun to walmart.

First of all that is crazy that a grandma would have a gun in the first place lol. And it was really stupid of her to bring it in wal-mart. I also wonder if she had the safety on. This is a case of stupidity but like JaceKnows said a responsible gun owner would have never let this happen. Besides if all guns were banned it would just make the crime rate rise because then criminals would do even more to get their hands on them. and what about police. They obviously have to carry guns to protect us and even with them they still mess up and shoot innocent people. it just comes down to being smart and responsible and knowing how and when to use it.

and for the record, I own lots of guns, I carry one with me when I travel, in my glove box, loaded, however, I do not carry it into stores, I can get a concealed permit, but have not felt the need to do so at this time, In Louisiana, an auto is considered an extension of ones home and can be carried in the vehicle, you still have to be responsible for it, this means if you have kids, you have added responsibility that cannot be ignored.I will not be car jacked, mugged, robbed or home invaded, I will fight for five bucks just as hard as for five thousand, drinker smokin
