If I was to give you an all-expenses paid trip to the Middle East (I get to choose the country)
It would include flights, transfers, 5 star hotel, half board (breakfast and dinner)
There would be tours around the country (of my choice) and you would be expected to follow the country's laws

Would you do it?

I would guarantee your safety (up to you whether you want to put sunscreen on or not)

(It would be nice if you gave a reason why "yes" or "no")

Absolutely!!!! Any chance to see someplace new, meet people who have a different culture and lifestyle than my own is the greatest opportunity I can imagine...

It sounds interesting. But I don't know you well enough, & I'd surely want to know exactly where I was going. Unfortunately our adminastration is playing cowboy over there & I would not blame people for resenting an American.

O.P.,

Yes.. definitely. To visit another part of the world is to understand better the people who live there. It has nothing to do with the fact that you'd be paying either.. if I was very fortunate & aflluent enough to travel the world to many different countries absorbing their cultures, I would jump at the chance to get to know the locals; sample their cuisine; visit places of interest; enrich my knowledge of the lifestyles of people in countries overseas; try to indentify the similarities between us, instead of focussing on our political, religious and cultural differences.

I kind of had it in my head that you'd suggest Palestine- not the most popular holiday destination I know, or maybe you were going to say somewhere else, but it matters not because it wouldn't change my answer wherever you said.

I would gladly travel to any country that wasn't currently at war [ who am I trying to kid? I'd even visit a war zone], just to get a feel for the place, the way I perceive it, instead of the controlled version we receive via the propaganda tool that is our manistream media & western press.

Can't say I'm too surprised at the number of "No" responses, and unless the people who said "No" have already been to the Middle East and had bad experiences, then I cant' quite understand what the reasoning behind the reluctance to go there is.

This is our world, everyone's world.. after all; how else can you know what conditions are like in another country if you refuse to travel there and sample it for yourself? :)

Yes, I would.
But I just might go anyways, my determined plans about Chernobyl NPP and Kosovo next summer are again under reconsideration..
