OK so figured out that is was NOT my media player but my sound. WTF! I went to you tube to listen to music there while I fixed my problem. But the video plays and no sound. Even tried itunes but again NO sound and the songs will not play just like my media player. WTF yesterday afternoon I had sound go out for awhile and NO sound? I HATE a broken computer!

It might be the dreaded ID 10T ERROR.

Find out what sound card you have uninstall the driver for it. go download the newest drivers for it and install them.

and if that does not work go to device manager and see if you have a yellow mark next to your sound hardware

Try to update your audio drivers (figure out what soundcard you have, right-click My Computer go too properties and click hardware-=Device manager, now scroll down if you have to too find sound, video, and game controllers). If that does not work you may have to reinstall all of your codecs again, check out Microsoft's site for codec packages or type in 'Audio Codecs' into Google without the quotes.

I have accidently hit the mute button on my keyboard, you might want to check that.

YAY for getting it working!!!, if any one else has this problem read my post first . . .

Why would you mess with drivers if you have not even checked control panel sounds and audio devices . . also might be an entry in control panel if you sound card has proprietary software for it.

Check there first and foremost, it may just be muted. There is also an icon on most system in the system tray, it kinda looks like a speaker, double click it will bring up the sound control panel, check to make sure it has no check mark in the mute box of "master Volume"

Once you have determined that neither proprietary software, nor windows has something muted then you start to think about your speakers, make sure they are plugged in, turned on and volume is not set to 0 . . . .

THEN and only then do you concern yourself with driver issues.

As for advice, make sure the Windows Audio Service is running.
Start->run->services.msc
Look for Windows Audio
Make sure it says "Started" by it.
If it doesn't, double click it and hit Start!
