Topic: Nose Picker!!! | |

I have one. My 3 year old son is a professional nose picker. Aside from the old pepper juice on the fingertips trick, does anyone have any sure fire ways to get a child to stop nose picking???

Nope..all kids like to pick winners from their noses I think..especially boys. He's 3 so u cannot really reason with him on this situation, just make sure he washes his hands alot..lol...they grow out of it I am sure.

Tell him he's gonna get worms in his belly....and it could cause some serious problems...and he could have to spend time in the hospital, possibly have to start taking shots with big 4 inch needles....

That's a new one. I tried telling him there was a monster up his nose that would bite his finger. But he didn't buy it. |

I never used the "needle" thing with my kids because it made them even more afraid to get shots when they had to have them so JMO not a good idea to threaten with needles...or shots.. Good luck hun because Im not sure if theres a way to make them stop.. I would frown at my son when he did it and tell him thats nasty... and he eventually quit because he didnt like Mommy giving him "whammies" lol (frowns) |

My daughter used to do it when she was little too. We used to say she was digging for gold! I think it's just because they aren't in the habit of blowing their noses and it's more convenient for them just to use their fingers. The upside for me was she got into this habit of not wanting to have any thing icky on her hands so every time she picked her nose, she was right in the bathroom washing her hands.

I just ignored it, but made sure I washed my son's hands a lot and talked about getting sick and germies.
When he was ill, I reminded him about the nose picking. He does it less, but still does it. He's seven. Really, I'm going to pick my battles.... and that isn't one of them. When kids start school, this stops in public most times, due to the ridicule of the other kids. Peer pressure hurts. |
