As of right now, it's off the coast of Haiti, between Jamaica and Cuba, at 19.1 North Latitude, and 74.4 West Longitude, 90 miles southeast of Guantanamo, Cuba. It's moving west northwest at 6 MPH. Hurricane watches are in effect through most of Western Cuba, with extreme West Cuba under a hurricane warning. Hurricane watches also extend through the Cayman Islands, and northern Jamaica.

It's projected 5-day path is into the Gulf of Mexico and towards the Northern Gulf Coast of the US, between New Orleans and Pensacola, FL.

If you have any concerns or thoughts, ideas or suggestions, feel free to post them here. As a resident of the Gulf Coast of Florida, I'm always aware of what's going on when it comes to hurricanes, and I'm a firm believer in educating others and helping out when I can.

too early to tell...but if they recommend an evacuation
then just pack and leave and be safe.

we'll know in a couple days. hopefully it will not
be a direct hit on a populated area...

I know, with Fay I just got a lot of rain... not nearly as much as they did on the Atlantic side.

This storm I'm slightly concerned about, because after it's done with Cuba, it hits warm, open water in the Gulf, and gets two or three days to strengthen in those perfect conditions. Katrina did much the same thing, after crossing Florida, first.....

Props to you for starting a forum like this to keep people updated. Even though most of us in hurricane areas are usually well-informed, it's nice to let others know what's going on, too.

I hope New Orleans is ready. I have a bad feeling about this storm.....

Hey Jace! Yeah, it's just something I thought I would do. I looked around in all the forums and saw people post things similar... letting others know what is happening with one thing or another... so I thought I would do the same with something that I'm kinda geeky about. LOL Look forward to sharing more! ::smiles::

I live in SWFL and Survived a almost direct hit from Charley and Wilma with no damage to the home..Little tropical storm Faye ripped off part of my roof and had a lot of water damage. Just now getting it fixed and back to normal. Myself I would never evacuate but I'm overly prepared for such storms...

So far Jefferson Parish is preparing in the Greater New Orleans area and watching to start the ball rolling on getting people out as early as possible. I am hoping it stays at a category 1 or go down to a tropical storm. I have had enough damage to body and property from Katrina.

ughh i lived in fl for 3 years, 2 months after moving there i got hit with charlie, then frances, and then umm i forgot the next one, no major damage in those, but i had moved ot s fl for grad school by the time wilma came through and it took all the shingles and the siding off the back of the house, my room was a mess and i even had leaking downstairs, between that and having my daughter, not being able to back to grad school and wanting more family around, i gave up on fl and came back to ny
