please exuse my misspellin here
im not well educated but had to write this

it seems in todays sociaity we have come along ways since the 1960s
but have we realy
in the 60s we had prayer everywhere
schools, courts,us senate, congress, even the president prayed without fear
of being sued
anyone could walk down the street proclaimin what they believe but can
we do that today
have we fallen into a world of greed n wants

in the 60s there was not much unemployment was almost nothin
why
cuz people worked where they could n what they could earn
no
it was not alot but look at what they had
a home to live in
food on the table
a family that shared their days
a family that communicated

my dad would personaly pray for
guild my hands to do your will
bless my family
watch over my family n friends
bless my government lead them in all things

in todays sociaty who realy takes time out for this
very few

in the 60s it was everywhere

today we are allways workin to for more stuff
then when we get over crowded with stuff what do we do
rent a storage unit to store the stuff so we can buy more stuff

we have consumed ourselfs with more n more

is that not greed?

are we realy better off today then we was in the 60s
i agree with some of the medical break thrus n technoligy

but what about the other stuff

you tell me

I am not a deeply religious woman but my child is. Living here in the
deep south we have dealt with and continue to have the battle lines
drawn over the ten commandments being in govt. buildings along with "one
nation under GOD" be spoken with the pledge of allegance every morning
in many schools.
I have discussed this with my lil britches and already told him if the
spirit moves him "just go on son!" its OK to drop to your knees and
thank god for all you have. I mean what are they gonna do to an 8yr old
autistic kid? SUSPEND HIM FROM SCHOOL?! ROTFLMAO!!!laugh laugh
laugh laugh laugh
As for the ten commandments being in federal, state, county courthouses
I stand strong and believe this to be a good thing. Right here in my
hometown the battle lines were drawn and the ten commandments removed
from our county courthouse. What a sad situation and day that was.
GOD bless america.flowerforyou

It is the act of conditioning…little by little the world is being
conditioned to accept the things that you feel are not right. Remember
when Elvis came on stage. They only showed him from the waist up. What
can you see now? You never saw a man and woman in bed together on TV. I
may be wrong but I think Fred and Wilma were the first couple to be
shown in bed together on TV. You did not hear cussing on TV or radio.
Then they had to censer so that only certain words could be said. Now
there is cable and satellite where anything goes. Technology has
progressed at lightening speed in the last 50 years. Money, cash, is
almost a thing of the past. Finger print scans, eye retinal scans, this
technology is here and in use. Camera’s to view traffic??? Conditioning
to be used in other ways. Remember “Service Station”? Check your oil and
air up your tires…now they are called “Gas Stations”. Use to, when you
stopped at the gas station to get gas you had to converse with the
attendant when you went inside to pay. Now you can pay at the pump.
Independence. But also like you said twosteper, there is a lot of good
that has come about also. I don’t want, or mean, to sound like doom and
gloom, just thinking out loud and IMO the way I see yesterdays society
as compared to today’s society

np suede

i have a great friend n brother in the Lord thats a bounty hunter

he is very religous n prays daily
he uses what he calls the beast tools to catch the ppl hes after
beast meanin revalations
he can chase someone from his office
he uses technoligy to catch ppl

he can get into any security camera n find anyone hes lookin for

once he catchs them he talks to them n shows them a better way of life
i seen many has got out of prison n go to work for him in one of his
investments somewhere

im not sayin all is bad but what my point is

we get to busy into gettin stuff that we forget the most import things
in lif
such as prayer should come first n foremost

since we took prayer out of schools
look how far our country has gone
more n more prisons are bein built

in the 60s we had less then 1/3 of the prisons today

why
cuz we lived by the bible n not by newer n newer laws

i remember when i did wrong who ever seen me do it
i got my butt busted n took home n they told my parents what i did wrong
did my parents call the law
no
i got my butt busted again
but i did learn from that experiance

now a days if ya did that ya go to jail in a heart beat
its called child abuse
even if ya busted ya own kids butt its called child abuse

todays prisons are only schools for how to do crimes better

where have we gone

is the new laws more important then the old standards

talk to me

part on...

I think that many, as every generation does, have looked back and
forgotten the griefs' and turmoils that we came through. You question:
"where did prayer go, when and why has the word of God been taken off
the general public agenda? And wasn't our world better when it was
present"
It was not for their loss that society has changed. Your view
includes a desire for the luxury that would give YOU peace, in knowing
that everyone else shares the same religious viewpoint.
What changed was not a result of the lack of prayer in public circles.
I remember the 60's and forward. In the 60's we were still fighting
heavily for equality. Equality that would finally free the slaves as
was declared 100 years before. We were fighting against a war, VietNam,
we had no business being in, and ending another that was never won,
Korea. We were finally recovering from the disaster of the worst
depression in our history. The fight for equality broadened to those
whose lifestyle was not acceptible in our free society culminating in
the Stonewall event in 1969, which was also the year Americans landed on
the moon, wow!. The tax laws were difficult, but I never knew a single
person, family, who did not process their own taxes. In highschool, I
could even understand the publications. There was growth in every known
sector of our society in those years and it was not without pain and it
was not without cost. The cost, let's start with money:
The cost to live was in line with what a single income family could
provide. My parents paid $12,000.00 for their first new home in 1960.
My fathers income,he saves records, that year was $5,200. In 1977,
just 17 years later, they sold that little house in a low income
neighborhood for $58,000 to a family in which both adults had to work to
afford to live there. I'm sure they both had to continue to work as
their children grew, in order to accommmodate, not only the rising cost
of living including taxes, but also in an effort to see that their
children would have whatever the latest technologies provided. It was
the only way to make sure your child was prepared for the world they
were about to enter, and EVERY parent wanted more for their children
than what they had. This may have been a bad move, as those children
and the end of the baby boomers, grew up thinking that when they became
an adult, they too would have "everything".
Technology that began small and slow and amusing, soon grew
exponentially and our time, for the first time in our history became
something to measure in dollars and cents. Laws became something to
manipulate to take the place of what a sound family structure could no
longer provide. Most of those in the workforce in the 50's and 60's
would not be able to keep up, not with expenses, not with their
children. Children found "family" where ever they found acceptance. I
can not tell you how many of my peers actually ran drugs as a business
and were proud of their accomplishment in doing so. Happy to say, those
I've heard about over the years, found more acceptible means to survive.
Over all, and just in my view of things, I would have to say, it is
not the lack of public religion, or public prayer that contributes to
our current civil woes. I have seen in the last several years a real
commitment by many to get back to a family system, this has been
evidenced by many companies getting back to 40 hour work weeks, and time
sharing jobs as well as the old fashioned company family picnics. Many
even give additional days off with pay for non-christian, religious high
holidays and some, being more politically correct, give flex days for
this purpose to all employees.
I think it was the generation who knew family and community that
have been instrumental in this process. Sometimes it's our children who
have heard and listened to the stories that we tell, that their
grandparents tell about the "old day". So in this regard your memories,
our memories of a 'better past' have been worth while.
I'm glad you made me think of these things. Putting some past
history of our lives into perspective is a good way to see that hope is
not to be compromised. Thanks and keep up the stories to all those
younger's who'll listen, it's history, first hand.

Like i said twosteper i am not a deeply religious woman but i continue
to pray with my youngin anytime he wants. Every night we say his prayers
because the littlest voices are heard the LOUDEST. The day our supreme
court ruled we could no longer say "ONE NATION UNDER GOD" in public
schools AND prayer was banned in many american schools was a big BIG
MISTAKE IMHO.
Having a special needs youngin its enough to really piss me off knowing
and HEARING my wee one come home from his dads house and tell me in
tears his daddy beat him with a belt. He has told teachers, cops,
principles, lawyers and NO ONE will put a stop to the abuse he endures
at his dads. I have tried to no avail and NO ONE WILL HELP ME STOP THE
ABUSE. Spanking is one thing. BEATINGS WITH A BELT are another and in
this case it was from him not brushing his teeth the "right way"
according to that sorry excuse of a (@(@*#&$^#$. mad mad mad
explode I have been about CRUCIFIED for being a single mother with "a
youngin out of wedlock" living here in my town. I am heading into
custody battle #5 as this is the only way left for this man to continue
to abuse me. Thru the FAMILY COURTS where abusers have all the rights.
Its pretty SORRY in my eyes that decent parents who really do right like
i am trying with my youngin get all the grief. Thats just wrong!

Barbie, when you have so much emotional turmoil going on in your life,
it must be difficult to fight in any political arena. I hope there are
enough of us fighting folks out here who can take up the causes your
hold dear, and give you the time you need to take getting yours and your
sons life back. So keep on posting, that lets people know where you
stand and what's important to you. It may give someone incentive to
stand up and be counted when you are not able.
