We are all people who go through many of the same things. A lady moved into an apt. near me and very honestly said, "I'm so lonely". It's a state that many people go through and those that are single and married feel it. It hurts. Christ suffered it. We are so much less and it's a cross to bear. I guess it's how you handle it. Directed endeavors, be it school, giving to the needy at food banks, volunteer at the ASPCA, develop a creative aspect of your life is a positive. It's hard, though.
Just wanted to discuss this lady's honesty. I didn't like how she decided to handle it. "Get a dog." Poor thing, he would be alone seven days a week while she works! How cruel to transfer your pain upon an animal. In the meantime, common sense isn't so common, eh?

Steal the dog....replace it with a turtle...Turtles don't know when they have been left alone.

But, I see your point. Sounds like a lonely act of desperation.

i dont know... its a misguided attempt to fix her life but at the same time.. its an attempt. which means she hasn't totally given up. ya know? i mean i can't judge this woman because she wants a dog to cure her lonliness. everyone needs to feel loved and wanted.

she's obviously not feeling that. so instead of looking down at her for her decision why don't you make her dinner and invite her in. :)maybe she just needs a friend who might care.

It does sound like she needs something to do. I'm so busy I have to make time to do something fun or just relax.

How about fish? Fish are awesome, you can have gazillions of them, they wont ever be lonely. They so pretty to look at too and but nice glow in the room at night.

Maybe she can join a singles web site and at least make a few friends.

I think many people forget, in this busy world with so many external stimulii, that aloneness is not loneliness and they're often confused. So many have just forgotten how to live without external influence: they don't read, pray, meditate, even think - seem to just feel & re-act! JMO

Hi, did I give you the impression of looking down at her? Sorry you read my post quite incorrectly.

the best place imo to be alone is in the distraction of noise and/or crowd

I do feel for the dog as I am a avid dog lover, but I dont think it is for us to judge as we dont know all the aspects of the situation. Look at some of the things we have done because we were lonley. I just hope the dog is okay.

Didn't think it judgment, or even pity, just observation. Like we cyber psychos can judge - at least she's not on here . . . yet!

I love my aquarium, it's very interesting & soothing, but it dosn't help at all with loneliness. When I 1st got my dog she was able to come to work with me. Now that she can't, she has kitty friends for company while I am working. She was raised with cats & this works fine for her.

The cats & dog are good company, but they can't replace human companionship.

Ummm..my dog is alone for 8 hours a day, five days a week.

Doesn't seem to hurt him any. And he's always happy to see me when I get home.

Saying that someone shouldn't get a dog ( which is basically what the OP stated ) is just silly.

Anyway dogs sleep most of the time we are at work. Dogs naturally sleep more than we do.

Animals are just like people in that they have different personalities and they can be trained and conditioned to live in live in harmony with each other. My dog has gotten old and likes to hang out in the easy chair. Pets shouldn't be a replacement, but they are good company. flowerforyou
