Ya, hmmm, I wonder if that is why the thumpers end up in general, because there isn't much going on in their forums either?

Either way I can't tell you how relieved I feel in here.. grin. My shoulders are back down where they belong.. Getting too old for this fight and flight thing.. lmao

I really really had no clue that folks were so uptight about atheists and nobelievers. I just never hung out with people that discussed any of this stuff that much.

Yeah I didn't know those certain types even existed. I guess maybe I knew, but never in my life came across any with that much hate.

But yes, it's nice to come in here and relax. Kick your feet up and enjoy the company!

Most of us don't do 'Church' very well, and some of us barely do 'groups'. I guess it's a learned response from having escaped the pervasive influence of religion through force of will. Tends to make one uber-independent?

Oh, the stories I could tell! I live in a very conservative part of the U.S. and come from a pretty religious family. I still remember hearing things like "You weren't like this until you went away to college."

I never made a big deal of it, I just went my own way and never asked for 'forgiveness'. I think it worked, because when I was on what could have been my deathbed a few years ago, only a few of them tried to do the prayer thing. And I realized that it was more about them than me, but that at the core, they were honestly concerned about me and not just trying to score points with a deity.

I can absolutely relate, have a born again Christian preacher for a brother and parents that are Christian when convenient, mostly in public. so I know all sides. I have learned in real life to just ignore most things that are said. I tolerate prayers at meals despite the fact that I think they think god doesn't know they are grateful for their meals. Must be all the starving people in the world forgot to say grace.. ugh

Anyway the independent i can really relate to...

I spent most of my life living in progressive states, then with out thinking I moved right into the bible belt... what was I thinking?? So mingle is my only access to the outside world.. grin!

Freud said "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar", and I suppose that's the modus vivendi I apply to their rituals. It's going along with rituals that gets you the green card to their Treehouse, and everyone has a good time as long as some darn fool doesn't start the "Unbelievers Hath Cooties" minstrel show.

And let's face it, some of the rituals _are_ beautiful and moving. You just have to know, as stated above, when "A cigar is just a cigar". And when Faith is writing checks that the Universe can't and won't cash.

I love seeing threads pop up from the graveyard.

Did something about this thread in particular attract your attention, B?
