What kind of hitting? There's a difference between a swat on the butt, as in a spanking, and a punch in the arm or hard slap that knocks the child down. For purposes of this thread let's say the type of hitting which will bruise or possibly injure. I want to say that I'd call the police but unless it was real severe I'd probably go on my way and feel guilty about it later. |

I wouldn't directly get involved. |

Of course, I wouldn't go up front to the parent doing the abusing. I may go to jail myself. |

I probably should've explained in the original post that I did not mean this as a referendum on corporal punishment. As a parent, I fully understand both sides of that argument.
I wanted to see how passive or active people tend to be. I suspected when push comes to shove there are more than a few who would not do anything in the face of a "situation." |

What is your defination of abuse? What u thing is, may just be a correction har that child. As defined by the law, but I'm sure you know that on the spur of the moment it's a judgement call. The law in some states say you may not even spank your child... I'd like to see them raise kids without ever spanking and said children better be f'n angels... exactly... I never wanted the belt nor to disappoint my parents that was huge.. As for my sons the oldest got his share and he tells me he deserved them.. My middle and youngest only got swatted a couple of times.. |
