I'm very curious about something. I understand the signifigance of Obama being the 1st black president in our country. I pose a question, Would there have been as much hoopla and fanfare if we had voted in our 1st female president? I'm not sayin if we had voted Hilary Clinton into office. I'm simply saying if we as a country had voted or perhaps I should say, When we vote our 1st female president into office do you think there will be as much of a signifigance claimed along with all the hoopla and fanfare?

I've thought about that one. I can't come up with an answer.

I think the first black President might have more significance though. Some people are prejudiced and this shows how far we've come since the 50's with different drinking fountains (and more) and the sundown towns that peaked in the 70's.

I would celebrate a woman President though.

No I dont think there will be as much emphasis. I am glad Obama got elected but I am rather sick of the publicity and to be honest, I know the blacks are happy but its really rather laughable at how emotional they are getting. The black community thinks he will do them some good as far as pushing for programs but this wont be the case and further more he isnt full black. His mother is white and his father isnt even of african decent. The whole thing is laughable.

There'd be even MORE significance if we elected a one-eyed black female Jew-turned-Wiccan, though!!!

Maybe you can't relate because you're not black.flowerforyou

I haven't heard that they are hoping about more programs for them.

It would be damned nice if the next time I old my grand daughters they could grow up to be president of the United States I could prove it is possible.

Yes, I think many women would celebrate.

Laughable?

Anyone that doesn't understand the importance of this president to black people has never read history or understood it. I imagine that these same folks will find a woman president laughable as well. These are the same types that think whites voted for Obama out of guilt.

Hardly matters what some people think now, Obama is our president!.

It wasn't just that Obama was black, there was something about his character that made him different and special to people on both sides.

I think at this point in time it would not be a suprise if a woman won the presidency. I think I might depend on the woman herself.. not sure...

A woman maybe but if she's a lesbian break out the champagne cause then we can celebrate some tolerance!!

you could say that.

He stuck to the main issues all throughout his campaign, no matter who tried to get to him. His charisma, his good looks, his compassion already shown, he is the type of man that you can't help but love, or at least feel hopeful toward.

I was talking with some friends the other day about a woman president when a man I know boldly said, "Women are too soft. A woman president would be inclined to weakness. Women don't have the &ick to do the job!"

A woman of about seventy sitting across the table (one who never swears and seems very much a lady) replied in a cold direct tone, "I am a woman and I have a &ick too. You just have to suck harder to find it!"

She went on to explain that while she thought most women might be more inclined to diplomacy they were as capable of using force as any man if the situation called for it.

It was a fantastic moment. I laughed and I concurred.

Women are every bit as qualified and capable as men for the office.

Well, in this country, half black, a quarter black, even an eighth black, usually lands a person in the 'black' catagory. It's what you look like on the surface rather than an analysis of your blood work.

Kenya IS an East African country!

People who say women are soft make me laugh too. I don't believe a female president would mean less violence, as some people try to say. Women are down right vicious. We plot. We plan. We don't get into a fist fight and then be best buds the next day. We hold grudges. Maybe I'm being too hard on us. But I think it tends to be true.

Here's another question to pose. Do you think that when a woman is voted president that it's goin to have the same signifigance for woman that Obama's being president has been for blacks?

Ok, here goes. IMO
His father is a black African, his wife is Black, his children are Black. He is proud of his Black heritage and so am I. The significance is not that he is "black", it's that the ceiling has been broken. No longer will we blindly listen to a bunch of old white men who only have their own best interest at heart! The "game" is over if we, the American people, pay attention and insist that this wasteful, frivolous, behavior we have ignored for far too long ends.
Loss of power is so hard to take.
