Atheists?

The general religion forums on this site seem to me to be monopolized by folks who seem bent on bashing Christians in particular for their faith.

To me it seems like these people have not only hardened their hearts but have also taken it on as their life mission to attempt to ridicule our faith in every way possible.

Is it worth it to even engage in dialog with these folks?

Same here but lately I'm doing a better job resisting the temptation.
It seems that some folks thrive on demeaning others and I'm coming to understand that fact.
Why give them the satisfaction eh...

You know I see no purpose for it. I cannot control how people believe and it stirs up resentment. I have faith in God. I know what he's done in MY life and it doesn't matter to me what peoples opinion are of that. Whether they believe it or not... who are they to tell me I shouldn't believe? So say as I believe that if I was never saved, and i run around with no faith and no God in my life and i kill somebody they would still believe that even if that faith in God was only what will work for me than they would still believe that I shouldn't believe? I hope that made sense. laugh It did to me

I get the feeling that even when they're faced with their judgement on judgement day, there will still be a significant number of them nay-saying and insisting that what's happening to them isn't real.
Are they going to ask St. Peter for his ID?

When Jesus returns, are they going to insist that he's an alien from Planet X ?

It's required of us as Christians to help the lost sheep find their way home, but dealing with with people who use every opportunity to disparage us only serves their purpose, imho.

Hi Allen, I checked out that sight and agree with you I think they are not ready to listen but just want to debate and bash Christian beliefs.
Im not saying God wont use you or work in the situaTION but Im still praying about the folks I heard talking about their being no God and how he has done nothing for our nation or people.
If God leads you too.. chime in and be that light that you are...Lisa:smile:

To what purpose?

As a Christian, my faith forbids me to use the same tactics as they do.

I can't profess to them what my opinion's may be that they are serving Satan.

Christ told us that we will be persecuted for his sake, but he didn't tell us that we had to go out of our way to subject ourselves to it for no reason other than to give unbelievers a target and a forum to espouse their vain opinions.

Hi Lisaflowerforyou , I really do want to be a good fisher of men and spread the good news of the gospel, but I'm concerned that sometimes silence on my part is best. I try to always ask what Jesus would do and I don't believe he'd use his time bantering with Satan.
That time, I'm coming to realize would be much more benificial just communing with our Lord.
I'm going to try harder to avoid those "discussions" from now on but I am a little perplexed that more Christian scholars aren't using their knowledge and understanding to help the atheist in question, since those atheists in particular spend so much time and energy attempting to insult our faith.

I'm going to keep putting posts up. But I'm not going to get into the debating as much. You never know who might stumble onto the site. And we are planting seeds that may sprout later on.

Well put. You see I have a choice today. I can pray for them and for their salvation.

It's pointless really, but I can't help myself at times either. Some comments made by them just really get off the wall at times. I like to mix it up with them at times though. Just for the smile it brings to my face. They think that just because you're a christian that you are supposed to be meek and a cheek turner or something. They love to play the judgement card as well. Well, I myself do make judgement calls at times and am comfortable with it. Regardless, I know in my heart that I will be judged fairly either way. I hope all find truth and peace in God and Christ. But we know that will not happen either.

Just a few scriptures to ponder...

"The servant of the Lord must not strive"

... meaning... stay away from strife...

There are scriptures about trying teach some who have no regard for what you have to say... its NOT the Great Commission to kep ranting on-and-on endlessly in strife... Jesus told the disciples to brush the dust off their sandals at the egde of town and move on...

We are commissioned to teach in love and patience, not strife...

There is also a section of scripture that relates to "not casting your pearls before swine"... which swine will simply trample them under their feet...

It is NOT scriptural to argue about the Bible

We are also instructed to live in peace... strife with people who have nothing but disrespect for your faith is not peace.

Most of these people can quote scriptures better than you...

...Satan can quote scriptures... he did so when Christ went into the desert for 40 days...

"Let go and let God"...

lastly...

this is a dating site... not your own little personal ego stop ... I could care less if folks have opposing views to my faith... I will live what I live, and live in peace, and when they "get it" that loving God makes a difference, GOD can draw them to GOD... I have very little to do with it at all...

Its a simply equation that works:

Me >>> smaller

God >>> greater...

I am simply a light on top of a candle on top of a candlestick

If folks choose to go to hell, well.. that's their choice... but I wouldn't if I were them...

Only GOD can change people

There is no "quick fix" to their addiction to atheism

I strongly oppose arguing Christianity at all costs.

LIVE IT, and you will have no need to argue it... your life will so shine with out a shadow of a doubt... no need to fight or scrap about it at all

The flesh needs to scrap and fight to feel "special" and important (not to mention, arrogant, hateful, etc, etc...)...

"The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want..."... including wanting to feed the flesh by arguing.

Three scriptures that come to mind to me are: (paraphrased)
God spirit shall not always strive with man.
Cast not your pearls before swine.
Shake off the dust of your shoes to those that do not accept you.
To me the scripture of, "What does a man gain if he gains the whole world but loses his own soul?" comes to mind.
In one verse where Jesus was asked about those who came before him and their welfare he said, "They had the apostles and prophets."
At one point the Bible when the message was first taken to the Jew then the Gentile makes the point even clearer by saying, "Whosoever will."
Blessed are the peacemakers for they shall see God.
At one point the Bible says that, "Jesus wept."
For we wrestle not with flesh and blood...
One can put themselves in jeopardy if they are not in the right spirit. The spirit of conviction comes from God and Jesus does the saving.
At one point the Bible says, "They have eyes but they see not and they have ears but they hear not."
The prayer of a righteous man availeth much. So I would think it better just to pray for them.

I go over there every once in a while to agree with someone or occasionally post. I mostly see the same arguments over and over again. I do not engage in much dialogue but I do like to pray for them. God is a BIG God and does not want any to perish. I believe seeds are being planted…good and bad and I trust that the Word that has been spoken there will not return void but accomplish everything that it was sent out to do. One plants, one waters, but it is God that will make it grow and we may never see it. I’ve heard too many testimonies of people who get saved and they ‘knew’ someone was praying for them or a Word was spoken and they knew it was from the Lord and they quit fighting. I’ve also seen people post in there that have been reading the Rel. Forums for a while and are on the fence.
A scripture that has spoken to me regarding this since being here is in Titus 3.

Titus 3

Doing What is Good

1Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good, 2to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men.

3At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another. 4But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, 5he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, 6whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, 7so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. 8This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good. These things are excellent and profitable for everyone.

9But avoid foolish controversies and genealogies and arguments and quarrels about the law, because these are unprofitable and useless. 10Warn a divisive person once, and then warn him a second time. After that, have nothing to do with him. 11You may be sure that such a man is warped and sinful; he is self-condemned.

nope, not worth it at all, especially considering they won't take you serious anyway as they've already made up their mind, and the only person who can change it is them themselves. I find it's the same way with both religion and politics, not worth arguing about at all, best to just let it be and move on and focus more on your own happiness, rather than someone else's misery. :)
